Film & TV / Re: Dr Who - On The Slide Again?

Something that Steven Moffat alluded to which makes perfect sense is the simple fact that the weather was so good at the beginning of the Summer that 6pm on a Saturday was going to be down. There are also so many other delievery channels, be it repeat, iPlyer, whatever that actually watching telly when its on these days isn't as important as it used to be.

I'd think (but I would be guessing) that the percentages, e.g. what % of people who where watching TV were Doctor Who would be a better indicator of how the show was doing? I've no idea how these hold up? Edited to say. Audience Share thats whats this is called!

I've not seen any alarmist reporting about the future of Doctor Who as you would expect if the figures were actually concerning people. Is there any out there?

Cool. I must try to track that down.

I've always been intrigued my the original 'Battle of the Planets' stuff, the Japanese stuff where it was one long story or something? Very different to the American TV show. Has that ever been released in English?

Do people know whether this is based on that?

Given that there are no more books listed for release, at least that I can spot. Is there not the chance they're not going to complete the series now? I'd guess sales haven't exactly set the world alight and it always seemed a very ambitious project.

I have nothing to base this on its pure guess work by the way.

I'm pretty certain that was Rick Veitch and while it gets good write ups and has Cam Kennedy art I wasn't that impressed.

Books & Comics / John Wagner's Star Wars stuff
18 July, 2010, 10:22:09 AM
Well my quest for 2000ad creators work from other sources plods on. I've not been that impressed with the bits of Star Wars I've read from Dark Horse but I've noticed that John Wagner's stuff os now all packaged in a couple of those good value Omnibuses they do. So the question is is it any good?

Anybody read his Boda Fett and 'Shadow of the Empire' stuff and care to share?

Books & Comics / Insomnia no longer publishing?
17 July, 2010, 06:03:19 PM
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news as I know a few people here than things in the pipeline from Insomnia but it looks like the company might have gone to the wall?

Obviously things might not be as bleak as things here make it sound and hopefully people will still get their work out one way or another but anyway good luck all involved.

Prog / Re: Prog 1694 : Dog Rescue!

Steady Prog this week... just steady.

The Dredd is a nice change of tone from whats gone before and a classic light hearted Dredd with a bit of an underbelly. Good fun distraction but nowt more.

Red Seas, Savage and Sinister Dexter all build nicely this week. All three are moving the story forward nicely without being spectacular.

And Strontium Dog carries on much as it has to date. More details are teased out and the story continues.

Not much to say really everything fine, nothing to discuss here really.

OK Prog.

It's pretty retarded having Amanda Waller of all people in this movie.

"Who?" I hear you ask. Well, my response is (of course) "Eggs-acchht-lee".

The talk is she's being set up as a DC equivalent to Nick Fury for a DC movie shared universe. Done well she is a brillant character... done well.

Triple tits looks too young. Still a stunning cover.

I thought Tyranny Rex was back in some crazy cross-over.

Nice cover

I like the self-sealing pressure suit idea. That's very neat. But you got me thinking about the complexities of it. What does the sealant solidify upon contact with? Not air, obviously.

Don't worry about its just... ya know... sci-fi stuff.

See all better!

There's a wonderful scene on a Morrison JLA book (this is from memory so it's not quite right) where Green Arrow (or Batman, can't remember!) mentions that only Superman bothered to turn up to Metamorpho's funeral- no-one goes to them cause there's no point, they always come back to life anyway.

And of course he did, twice (kinda) which is a good job as he's one of my favourite characters.
