A bonus episode for the I Love Comics event happening this weekend, I interviewed Julia Round again and we talked about the Misty specials, and her plans to extend her database to cover Spellbound and other horror comics. Plus details of a free lecture she is giving online next weekend.

Vince Hunt from the Awesome Comics podcast joins the book club with the thrills and spills of Death Wish by Barrie Tomlinson and the brothers Vanyo. We also discuss some Storm Force and then wax lyrical about Bernie Wrightson’s illustrated Frankenstein.

Nice one! I remember Death Wish very well; looking forward to this.  I think it'll be my accompaniment to tidying the boat and laying a carpet today.

The first Titan reprint album I got (though may have had Halo Jones given to me as a christmas present around the same time).  Under the Judge Caligula name, obviously!

And a grail page to end all grail pages from Bernie Wrightson’s illustrated Frankenstein.  Anyone got $1.2million to spare?

Wow - that's about as close to a perfect illustration as I could possibly imagine.  I love the zombie-like Frankenstein too - I think most artists / movie-makers are realising the Karloff look doesn't quite cut it any more.

Just listened to the John Burns interview, which was hugely enjoyable.  The longevity of comic artists absolutely blows me away sometimes, and I've always been a huge fan of his stuff.  Also, quite an incredible range of work, from middle-class swingers to time-travelling giant worms.  Didn't he do straight-up porn at some stage too?  For one of the one-handed periodicals, iirc.

A better image from the Heritage Auctions site where it sold for $1.2 million in 2019

Looks even better there. If I had a spare million or two that would be high up on my shopping list.

It was great - things like these make a global pandemic slightly easier!
