Title: Thought Bubble 2012 - 11th - 18th November 2012
Post by: CrazyFoxMachine on 15 May, 2012, 07:18:50 PM
Since exhibitor's tables have already SOLD OUT I thought I might as well start the topic for it.

And also beg people to ask around and see if anyone's willing to split a table! Else it'll be me handing out The Psychedelic Journal LIKE SOME SORT OF AWESOME HOBO.

I'll definitely go either way - I fell in love with it last year - and Liz & Conor of Disconnected Press will be there, as well as all m'Bristol Comic Creator chummies - !

Last year missed this for a couple of reasons. Hope to get a pass this year, though might bring my daughter as she might like all the shiny things.

I'm going.

The costume group I'm in will probably have a couple of Judges on patrol, and my son will be in his Mini Judge Dredd costume for the cosplay.

Looking forward to it!

This aspect of the con gets better each year, . . . the costumes are fantastic all round (ranging from storm troopers and Marvel / DC characters to Manga and more).

Yup, I'll be there too, probably just for the Saturday - last year's was a blast. I liked the layout with two halls either side of an open space, which is great if the weather's good. it was well organised, well attended, lots of cool cosplayers, and you even get to have a wander round the armouries museum while you're there! Best thing is I don't need the expense of hotels as it's a short train ride from Manchester.

I was looking at ways to travel to Leeds today as its not easy for me to take the car for a whole weekend these days as Mrs Albion can't use her works van anymore.
It used to be OK for her to use it but someone else in the company took the piss so any use other than for work has been stopped. They've just fitted trackers to the vans too. I don't like leaving her without the car In case she has to do anything for her mother.

It seems easier to get to Hi-Ex than Yorkshire.  :o

Me and the wife and hopefully making the trip this year. We had tickets and hotel booked for last year but I feel really ill the week before (could have lost my hearing) so couldn't make it. I wanted to go the year before (2010) but she wanted to get married lol.So really looking forwards to experiencing TB.

Question for those who have been before: How do the signings work? I know the likes of 2000AD have people signing through the weekend but how do the other guests go about it?
I'd really like to meet Jason Aaron this year so would he have his own table or are the signings scheduled like at Kapow?

Cheers for the help.

They have their own tables and you queue up. Its all very civilized and relaxed.

My favourite moment last year was talking to Mick McMahon at his table early Sunday morning at the events. He mentioned he was returning to 2000ad duties with a cover and talked about his blog ... Tugging your coat. I was totally star struck what a lovely bloke.  :-)

That's great. So Mr Aaron (there are more I want to meet he just stands out lol) should just either be there all weekend or have a schedule up at some point at the times he will be there?

Thing is, I'm not sure yet whether to get a day or weekend pass... is it likely to sell out do you reckon? What are the odds of getting a ticket on the door on the day? How's it been in the past?

I think they say you can always get a ticket on the door... hang on...

Yeah, "All passes will also be available as priced above on the door at the convention on both Saturday and Sunday, tickets are not limited, but are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and some queuing at the venue may be required."

Sorted.:)

Given how quickly they sold out it might be an idea to: a) contact them directly and see if they have a list of people ready to pick up cancellations and b) wait until a bit closer to the time and see who has a table and talk to them about sharing in return for covering half the costs. All is not lost.

Any folks around for a beery meet up, chat, "How awesome was that Dredd movie?" discussion please let me know or point me toward where folks will be.

Maybe.
I've booked a day off for the Friday and I was thinking of going up during the day and having a look around Leeds. Haven't sorted out how I'm getting there yet. I'm trying to avoid the car so Mrs Albion can use it while I'm away so I have looked at trains, bus etc.... but not made a decision yet.

Yeah my missus won second place - !!! I believe Lady Festina has them in her clutches, despite many attempts to pry them from her she's keeping them under wraps for "bribery purposes". Just because she knows she'll get a fortune when my madam goes MEGAGLOBAL as the world's GREATEST ARTIST (http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=802780&gsub=110601).

Can someone help out a Thought Bubble first timer?

I'm just wondering what to expect at TB. Is there much in the way of 'long boxes' type sellers or is TB more of a indie scene? Looking on the website there doesn't appear to be many sellers there, more of a self published crowed. Nothing wrong with that just wanting to know what to expect.

Also what are the guests usually like? Really want to meet Jason Aaron (amonf others but mainly Aaron) this year so am I going to have to stand in line for hours at a scheduled signing or do the guests all have there own booths that people can go up to them at any time?

Lastly, how do the us boardies meet up? Does 2000AD have a store at TB? I've seen that they are a sponsor but not mention of actually being there lol. I'm guessing the boardies just kind of congregate around here at most times?

Cheers for any help people.

There were quite a few general dealers there last year in addition to the publishers selling their own stuff. Not as many as at the collectors fairs, but last year I picked up some Marvel bargains and a vintage Lion Annual.

I suppose that depends on the guest. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer bloke than Colin Macneil for example, but Bisley can be a right knob [allegedly, my lawyers tell me]. Queues aren't horrendous, even for the big names and it's all very friendly and approachable - It's a Northern con, 'appen.

The Futurequake table where Bolt-01 and Richmond will be selling Zarjaz and Dogbreath, amongst other good stuff, is a good place to meet boarders. There's usually one or two hanging around and you can find out about the inevitable plans to meet up in the evening for food and much drinking, so make yourself known and ask for the rest of us to be pointed out to you.

I may have asked this before but can't remeber (if I did I don't think I got an answer).

What is parking like at TB? How about parking rates? Not seen anything mentions anywhere before.

This is all assuming there is any parking at all. If not does anyone know where the best place to park around the con is?

Yet another question for a TB first timer:

Just looking at the table plan. It has the majority of the guests listed as having there own tables. Does this mean the likes or Mark Waid is just going to be sat at Table 28, Jason Aaron sat at Table 21, etc throughout the con for people to go and meet them or will they only be there from time to time?

Really starting to get excited for my first Thought Bubble now  :D

pretty much - though the most popular convention guest seems to be a scrap of paper with "back soon" scribbled on it! Some of them will put up a sign saying what times they'll be there for signing/sketching, others will hang around at their table all day.

I've finally got off my arse and booked my ticket for Saturday. Out of interest are people planning on going to the British Comics Awards thing before going out for tea and what not?

But I will get you one if you want SBT.

Hope there is some kind of transport from the convention centre to this. Would really love to see it (I count Halo Jones as on of the top 5 2000AD strips of all time) but it's a bit of a treak from the convention centre to the venue for an out of towner I'm afraid  :(

I've just checked their website and I haven't heard of ANY of the nominees, so I'll probably head straight for beer!

I'm regretting only getting a Saturday ticket now as I'll miss both Minty and Halo Jones, which I could've seen in the Lass O'Gowrie which is just up the road from my house, but I forgot it was on at the time.

Don't forget the 35th Anniversary panel on the Saturday.

Bury Theatre, Royal Armouries, 12.40pm – 1.30pm, free entry with Saturday/Weekend convention pass, all ages, but please note: Thought Bubble does not control panel content

Rob Williams, Simon Fraser, Simon Davis, Leigh Gallagher, Robbie Morrison – the galaxy's greatest comic turns 35 this year & to celebrate we've got some of the mighty Tharg's best art & script droids together. Guaranteed to be zarjaz!

Hosted by Stacey Whittle & Iz McAuliffe.

From looking at the ECBT page it seems that Lee Carter is also included in the panel.

We weren't able to secure a table this year ( gutting)  BUT we will be up in force for the weekend-

We can hand deliver pretty much all our range bar Helmets and full costumes, if this helps, so let us know via email to our info@ account and we will bring it with us.

See you there !

I'll be at table 84 in the Armories building...signing and sketching.  :D

I'm at 89 - we can throw stuff at each other!  :)

At TB I'll have a special variant edition of #1 of my comic for sale. There's only 50 copies of this bad boy:

So everyone that's going please come visit, say hi, maybe buy a copy (pretty please?). I'll have a special deal available only at the Con. I'll also probably have a hangover, so please be gentle.

Just had a thought, I don't have access to a table this year. I will be bringing some pages with me, so if anyone is looking for any, or getting stuff signed or whatever, just look out for the hat. I'll be wandering about with the ol' folio on the Saturday.
Stop me and buy some, as it were.  :D

See y'all there.

2 things...well, 3 actually.

1- I'm leaving tomorrow and excited to see Richmond, Dave and a number of old friends again. I'll be in the pub on Friday night, so say hello if you recognize me...

2- Does anyone know of a good vendor who's going to the show? I'm looking to get all the recent progs and Megs that have CLIFF ROBINSON art in them...but i have no idea which ones they are. If someone can direct me whom to speak with or help, I'd appreciate it.

3 lastly, Guillermo Ortego and I have made a limited edition DREDD print for the con, and it looks like this. Swing by our table in the Armories building if you'd like one.

Stop by and say Hi John, it's been a while.

Can I mention that due to space issues I'll only have limited numbers of older issues of Zarjaz, Dogbreath FutureQuake and Something Wicked with me. If anyone out there is after getting a complete set of the current Zarjaz (18 comics in total) then there will only be two sets available on the day. If anyone does want a set let me know and I'll bring them seperate for you.

Sitting trying to do some last minute packing and preparing but alas when I went into town to get girly bits and pieces for the trip I inevitably ended up running into folk and 'forced' into the pub.  Packing clothes is first most important and Ill be looking like this <<<<<<<<< in bowie heroes t-shirt and shorts on friday, tartan dress on saturday and striped dress sunday but my hair may be different cos im going to the hair dressers for first time in 8 months - that's how excited I am.  If you see me I insist you come say hi :) it will be nice to meet you guys.  If you are boozin (or looking to go boozin) on friday send me a wee PM with phone numbers, and I apologise in advance if I am pished - I'll try and stop by that hotel for at least one but not sure what pub my friends were thinking of. Otherwise, hopefully see you all across saturday and sunday.

Hadn't had much chance to have a look at the program til the other day but wowee that's a lot of guests so will need to look out a few comics too!  Lot's of very talented people!!  It will be especially nice to meet Al Ewing and Henry Flint - such enjoyable work.  Obviously could go on and on about all the guests but there's way too many brill people and you know who they all are anyway hehe... plus I'm not very good with names... or remembering things in general!  In sad news I heard that Rufus Dayglo and Richard Starkings have had to cancel and best wishes to them. Naturally I will try to be at the AD panel on Saturday and the rest of the time milling about drinking, smoking, talking to anyone unlucky enough to be in my vicinity and watchin artists draw.  Watchin the artists draw is my fave bit.  Hoping to see the Judge Minty film too as it looks like the guys have put a hella lotta effort in and I hear good things.

This is just a holiday for me to relax and spend time with good friends so I'll be in good spirits :) convention will be a brill second place bonus to lots of fun times with amazing people <3 x x x
Anyways don't be afraid to come say hey or get in touch because I don't know very many AD fans and always looking to meet nice people.  Take care and have a fun time however you spend the weekend!! x

Having a blast!

Lots of forum members on display. Judge Court on patrol with some cadet. Judge Minty in 3 hours time. 2000 AD panel had some funny tales to listen to. Managed to get hold of the Mondo Dredd poster from Jock and had it personalised. Pete Wells will show you what he did to his and it's great. John Wagner gave me some Dredd soap, which I have never heard of. Lots of other stuff but I'm walking back to the con after dumping loads of valuables in the hotel, so I can't keep typing.

By the way Judge Minty was absolutely stunning. None of you will believe what is coming your way. One word review from John Wagner 'BRILLIANT'

Arh alas this is why its was a good job the night didn't drag on. 5.30 in the morning and dealing with poo!

Anyway you lot don't need to know that. Had a fantastic day. Only downer (well aside from one which I'll post elsewhere) was I unfortunately missed the 2000ad, but that was so I could get a Henry Flint sketch, so well worthwhile. That aside during the day had a load of brief but very enjoyable chat with lots of board members as I pottered around, hope Owen showed Matt his stuff and you really should all see the stuff that 'Chief' gets its quite brilliant. There was loads of wonderful looking stuff there and the atmosphere, for what is now a very big UK con is great.

Had chats and got stuff signed by loads of very friendly comic folk, a couple of highlights include buying a long dreamed of Dante page from the incredibly friendly Simon Fraser (later getting a fantastic Tharg sketch as well), watching Simon Davis 'sketch' with water colours and a very intriguing chat with The Wirral's own Dave Taylor. Much more beside and I got a drink bought by John Wagner... well kinda...

Hope to get a chance to put up pictures of my haul at some point and hope all the folk who are there still today had a great night last night and continue to have fun today as well... now then back to the source of that poo...

Well what a terrific day. Met up with lots of old friends, attended a few interesting talks and panels and best of all, managed to sneak a place in the cast & crew screening of Minty (huge thanks to the two Steve's for that!) It was the most awesome thing I have ever seen - really professionally done, great SFX and a superb performance by Edmund Dehn in the lead, who I also got to meet, what a nice chap. Mr Wagner was there and gave it his seal of approval, and I couldn't get the dopey grin off my face for hours. All followed by the obligatory Chinese buffet and a couple of beers. Just a shame I had to leave to get my train, but I went home one very happy geek with a bag full of comics that will take me days to get through.

A few pics:

This  Red Skull was genuinely scary:

The 2000ad panel, wonderfully hosted by Iz and Stacey, who despite attempts to keep it family friendly couldn't prevent BlueMeanie's question (natch) degenerating into a discussion of Jesus' penis:

In the pub with Bolt-01, Uncle Fester, Colin MacNeil, Kerrin, Richmond, Lady Festina and Dunk. Note how we've managed to clear the room with our geek-talk:

That was a zarjaz weekend.

Great to see old friends and also some new.
Chatted to some awesome creators and also got a few very nice sketches, I'll try and post them on here as soon as I can. There were a couple of more I would have liked to have got but I didn't want to join the very long queues. Some folk are more dedicated to that sort of thing than I am I guess.

Got a few books to read now too.  :D

Always fun to see the cosplay people but the best for me where the cardboard Dredd costumes. Hopefully someone will post a pic of those as I didn't take any. They were awesome.

The highlight for me was, of course, Judge Minty. It is.........stunning.

Finally back - tired but happy.

Had a great time, but between Minty and doing the photographer thing with the Judges didn't have much time to do much else.

Glad people enjoyed Minty, we just need to sort out a bunch more conventions/festivals to show it...

Yurp, a lovely couple of days for me and a cracking haul to share with you lot!

When I arrived I helped Judge Stewart to get ready (he has trouble doing his laces by himself, bless him) and got talking to a lad dressed as Batman. I asked how hot it got under his cowl and if his sweat split the mask and he let me into a bat secret that shook me to the core! Beneath the cowl, stuck to the forehead bit, he has a sanitary towel!!! I can see the Bodyform ads now... You can swim, dance, ride a bike and fight cowardly, superstitious criminals any time of the month!

While Judge Stewart was on patrol, I met Burdis and my pal John Wagner (who was queueing like common folk to get into the con, disgusting!) He gave CF a very rare Judge Dredd soap which was wafted under the nose of the mighty Judge Stewart! Burdis gave me a lovely Christmas bauble which will proudly be displayed this year!

My first buy of the day was a very special Mondo Dredd poster from the marvellous Jock, check this out Gavin 'So-Called' Leahy:

What? You didn't see it? Here's a close up (check out Chopper flying past too):

The 2000AD panel was next and was an X-rated joy, so hat's off to Iz and Stacey (Future Mrs Wells) Whittle for doing a grand job there.

The evil Kerrin and Colin YNWA then FORCED me to begin drinking and much of the afternoon was spent in the bar. In there I got to chat with Gordon Rennie (initially terrifying, then actually very nice,) Lee Carter and again, John 'Pete's Mate' Wagner.

Later I got this cracking Mongo from Defoe from Leigh Gallagher:

I got to see many fine boarders and friends during the day, including Albion, Bolt, Richmond, Dodsy and Mrs Dodsy, Owen Crazyfox, the Festers, DDD, Guy, Dale and many more...

Onto the evening and I got to go out on a date* with Iz McAuliffe. We went to the pictures to see Judge Minty which absolutely blew our tights off! Honestly folks, for those who haven't seen it yet, it's a wonderful, wonderful movie. Hat's off and a GIANT thank you to the two Steve's who really should be getting KTT's for their outstanding efforts. The visual effects are absolutely incredible and when Edmund delivers the lines from the comic about a judge getting old and having strange notions, the hairs on your neck will absolutely stand on end. I will say no more other than to repeat the wise summation of John Wagner - "Brilliant!"

*I tried to cop off with her, she was having none of it, though she was struggling.

After the film, a euphoric crowd went for a lovely meal(s) where Edmund regaled us with annecdotes in his wonderful, actOR voice. After that it was on to another pub to meet up with Colin MacNeil, Dunk and others for more beer and chat.

Day 2

This was sketch day for me and I got a wonderful selection. The first was this superb Dredd from Lawrence Campbell, he did it with a big, fat brush and it blew my tiny mind when it all the big, black splodges came together at the end...

Next up, this brilliant, brilliant Judge Death eating a Greggs pasty by the best Death artist out there, Mr Conor Boyle. Honestly, I beam every time I look at this!:

The next 'sketch' is by Simon Davis who is the owner of the most brilliant mustache you will ever, ever see. I asked him for a Mean Machine as I don't think he's ever done him and I KNEW he'd do a great job. He didn't disappoint, wow!

My last sketch of the day was by Simon Fraser. Following his outstanding Prog 2011 cover (Tharg sky surfing) I knew I wanted a Chopper sketch from him. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch check it out, as a Beastie boy once said:

Next week I'm buying a very special piece of artwork from Simon, I'll tell you more when I have it!

In all, a wonderful weekend with genuinely fabulous people. I love you guys and I love this board, simple as that! Thank you to all who made it so great!

I love that Pete Wells I do!

I had a great day - so nice to see/hug so many of you. I think the panel went well, I was really sad not to be able to see Minty but had already commited to being at the British Comic Awards as I was one of the judges this year. I look very much forward to seeing it soon though as we're hoping that Steve can come to The Canny Comic Con  (fingers crossed!). I got to steal Pete's beer and I got to meet John Wagner, which made my day.  Roll on 8th December when I know I'll get to see Judge Stewart and me marra Pete at the very least! xxxx

After being a member of this forum for nearly 10 years, this was the first time I've managed to put names to faces. This was my first proper con since the old UKCAK days.

As some of you will know I dragged my wife Kim along (bad back, tooth abscess  & everything), who doesn't really have an interest in comics what-so-ever but is very supportive to me in my drawings etc. We could really only manage the Saturday and started the day off by getting mythered by the local rozzers!.

After that it was going around the hall to try and put some names to faces and general chit-chat. The first table was the Disconnected table to say 'hi' to Conor & Lizzie B and bumped into Achie Mcc

After that is was over to say 'hi' to Bolt-01 and Richmond and bumped into Crazy Fox Machine.

After much walking about we then met Archie Mcc for a few beers or three. Where Archie was kind enough to give me two of his prints... cheers mate! Your Buck Tucker pic will be with you soon.

Just as we were thinking of heading back into Leeds, I bumped into Command Force, Kerrin, Colin YNWA and Pete Wells just before they went off to see Judge Minty. It was just a shame that we didn't bump into them earlier for some beers and a chat.

Quote of the day from Kim 'I've been speaking to a very nice man out there, he's got a beard and a hat on!' Kim had no idea that she was chatting to Colin MacNeil!

Has a great day and am looking forward to some more conversions.

What a weekend! Saturday was a complete smasher but Sunday was bobbins! Sales wise, that is.

It was a total treat to see John Wagner just wander along on Saturday AM and he even picked up a Death keyring from the Planet Replica stock we'd gotten hold of. Colin Macneil spent both afternoons sketching up a storm and the pages from Strange & Darke and DoC were astounding to see in the flesh.

We met loads of boarders, both old and new, but we think there are some around that might have been unaware of who we are so didn't speak and left before we got chance to say anything ourselves.

The saturday night feast was thoroughly awesome, and topped off by much dancing in the afterparty.

There is probably loads I've not mentioned, like the cardboard judges or seeing Anderson walking around, but I'm sure it'll come back to me later.

Roll on Cardiff!

Awesome convention! Best one I've been to and it was great to see so many forumites again.

Minty was f*cking amazing. Both Henry Flint and Colin Macneil said how impressed they were with the Megacity and I would wholeheartedly agree. It looked like the Megacity 1 that we've grown up with as depicted by Cam Kennedy, Carlos, Colin, Henry, Steve Dillon, McMahon et al. The whole team did a phenomenal job but the two Steves and Dan, you d'boys.

There were some phenomenal cosplayers, Lara Croft nearly induced vertigo with her magnificent decollage, The father and son cardboard Judges were magnificent and the Planet Replica guys and gal were superb. Integra really is a great Anderson, but about 3/4 scale and as cute as a button.

Saturday night was a total blast. I wimped out at about 1am but the forum and 2000AD staff and creators punched well above their weight from what I hear. Leeds on a Saturday night is totally f*cking mental by the way.

Had a great natter about all things 2000AD and comics on the way home in the car with Large 48 and Albion.

Already looking forward to next year.

I have slept on and off all of the beast that is the following monday and finally recovered from the best weekend I could have ever hoped for.  Thought bubble was amazing and I had so much fun on holiday doon sooth visiting you guys :)  everyone I met was so lovely both fans and pros.  Lost my phone pretty much instantly doh! so no photographs I'm afraid but will put the comics and what I was up tae.

MY LEEDS WEEKEND MEMENTO - had to do it in two parts cos my camera sucks
(http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm273/judoM/leeds%20stuff/189726_10151207593305819_1764906875_n.jpg)

My word it was busy!  Thought it would be but not queues like that... if id known I would have come later on hehe but yes queueing was actually quite fun and I finally got to see the judges in their costumes (though CF im very disappointed, you promised!).  Not sure who they were if they are from the board im assuming, you polis all look the same durty pigs hehe.  I hadn't been to anything big like Thought Bubble before.... the glasgow event was literally held in a church hall... and maybe drank a little more than I should have! (Im not really sorry lol)  My number 1 highlight was always going to be holidaying with friends and wow what a weekend.  Team Scotland was flying high!

Al Ewing seems like a cool guy and chuffed I managed to catch him if only briefly at the tail end of his signing.  He has a very deep voice, as does John Wagner, so listening to them talk to each other was funny *gruuumble grumble gruuuuuumble* .  Watching John Mccrea sketch was fantastic, real talent there.  Colin Macneil was very funny trying for ages to think up a witty dedication before settling on 'it isn't easy being witty' lol and John Wagner sees Colins and writes 'it's easy being difficult'!  Hahaha, very funny Johnny, they both make me laugh so much!

Sister of the blood?  You think they dare clone me??  and aww the wee picture of rabbits watching the sunrise as my name.  John on literary wit and Colin on artistic wit is a perfect signing combo for me and I really enjoyed these runs.  I was going to try and get Simon Fraser to write something funny but he was busy with, well Im blaming burdis lol.  He seemed nice when I met him briefly after the ad panel on saturday and I'm glad I grabbed a sig at his table. He has an expressive face and sharp threads, but thats purely my subjective observations.

The AD panel was a giraffe and a half and well run by Stacey with a mix of the standard questions - Desert island story, characters you want to work with/kill, stuff thats been banned, thoughts on the dredd film... that kind of stuff.  Would like to have known what kinda direction things are likely to be moving in but that's just cos I didnt get a chance to quiz Al Ewing properly.  Leigh Gallagher is absolutely filthy, poor Stacey trying to keep it clean with her adorable daughter in the crowd.  Very funny of John Wagner to stop by and watch the panel but I think it made a couple guests a little nervous.  Was robbie doing a signing cos if so shame I missed that but got to say hey in the bar which was nice.  I missed a lot of guests but it was just lazy ineptitude and not deliberate!  Stole this photo off urm damn I forget but pete I assume.

Great to see top artist/inker Gary Erskine recovering from a broken arm, so glad it wasn't his wrist as would hate to see a career cut short like that.  He was giving away really cool Lille Switchblade roller grrls keyrings and I was lucky to get one as they were rightly very popular!  Gutted I can't check out Hybrid as its ipad only but great work on Crossed and I'm looking forward to the Roller Grrls comic once its finished.

Jim 'Medium Jim' Alexander who is doing Amongst the Stars a sci-fi project with Mike Perkins which sounds brill.

The only sketch I managed to get (I got denied several times lol) was off Sean Philips whose work I hadnt given the time it deserved, but I have enjoyed his ad related work.  I was asking lots of different fans what their favourite books were at this event and Sean Philips Fatale came up a lot (along with Saga and one thats name I forget but has someone with a washing machine for a face on the cover) so wanted to pick up a copy.  He was sold out but nice enough to say to pick one up from a stall instead.  Apparently he hasn't based his character on me before ever meeting me, well so he claims despite my best protests lolol!

Judge Minty was great fun and a 'brilliant' watch.  A lot of time and effort had gone into it and Im definitely in team 'give the fanclub 50k and let them make the sequal' hehe I know you would all make it epic.  DNA should at least stick it in the Dredd dvd special features.  Strontium dog next pweeze??  Hoping we can get it shown in Glasgow at some point for the film festival or something as a lot of people wanted to see it and few had the pleasure.  Wish I had got you guys to sign the credits sheet thing for fun but I was quite pished by that point and staying awake in a dark room was best I could aim for hehe
(http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm273/judoM/leeds%20stuff/532149_10151207575610819_2048508341_n.jpg)

Meeting Pete Doherty was a highlight as he slayed me with his wit and yorkshire banter.  'ay up lass am from just down t'road. am just off t'slag off t'fans artwork, back later' hahaha that's how he talks its brill. and what a terrific artist, great to watch him doing judge deaths and things.  Pete definitely needs more proper 2000 ad jobs and not just on colours.  I could have been mistaken for charlies Walking Dead eating breakfast in the hotel, hangover from hell, so pete'll have to forgive me if I was rude...  Everyone I saw on sunday will have to forgive me for being rude!!

Barry Kitson is my other high light as he was the nicest man ever.  I guess I just assumed that a brit who had made it big at Marvel would be a wee bit up himself (barrys so talented it would be justified!) but that couldn't be further from the truth - an incredibly nice man!!  He was doing proper commissions for fans for free and one of the event staff said he had stayed up til 1am finishing the ones he didnt have time to finish the day before.  I was like 'Barry are you crazy, think of all the money you could be making. ye must be good fer a tap??' lol he laughed and said that all he asks is the fans hang around and chat to him while he does their water colours and my word judging by the size of the crowd round him enjoying chatting to him that was certainly no hardship.  I couldnt believe he had never been invited up to Scotland but hope he is soon.

Meeting some of you forum people was another high light and thanks to everyone who came up and introduced yourselves.  Great putting faces to names so a shout out to Commando Forces, Fatboydale, bat king, dantondare and everyone else who took the time to say hey - you were all very nice and I hope you had as epic a time as I did.  Sorry to anyone I didn't get to say hey to as I was quite busy and had no idea who was who.

Second last high light has to be Colin Macneil giving me so many cards for the 'Colin Macneil Role Playing Trading Card Game' or CMTGC as I like to call it. Only rule is you have to say how your card beats the previous card eg romans burns witches, cat chews wires. Gutted I forgot to get a game of it with Col as I only made it to make him laugh but did manage one game which I lost as Nyla declared 'dredd has to be played last and nothing beats dredd' lololol girl knows her CMTGC!!  Theres a deck protector box I made with dinosaurs wearing hats but colin pointed out I need a silver pen to do the beards too!!  Hahaha next time Col!!

And last but certainly not least for the ULTIMATE HIGH LIGHT I have to jump on the band wagon and say meeting John Wagner has to be number 1 for everyone.  I declare it as law so if you didnt put that as your high light yer gettin 10 lashes fer havin nae taste!!  Not only easily the most talented writer there but absolutely the best guy bar none too.  Its a shame his intimidating looming presence made some fans too shy to say hey but no wonder, he does look like a bent cop lolol, a big pussy cat really.  I love him so much!!

*phew* I think that about covers it so thanks for all the messages asking me about it and sorry to anyone who tried to message me to go for a drink and what not as I lost my phone boo hoo.  Hope you all had a crackin time too!!!  Much love and take care x x x

Had an amazing first Thought Bubble and definatly won't be my last. Couldn't believe how busy it was! I was expecting crowds but nothing like that. Great meeting some of the boardies as well.
Highlight was definatly meeting Mr Wagner for the first time. I was still shaking a couple of hours later, he's the guy who (probably like a lot of people on here) got me into comics in the first place.
The Minty premier was great as well. Me and the wife were some of the first people in the room so if we were chatting to some of you in there let me know.
What's that best way to upload pictures on here? I've a load of the sketches, etc I got which I'll upload later.
One of the best things to come out of the entire weekend had to be when we got home and the wife actually sat and read Judge Death and Judge Death Lives! I've been trying for years to get her to pick up a Prog and we all may have finally have managed it (think Boo Cook played a big part in it though).

Lastly, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Minty program? They forgot them at the premier and I couldn't find any during the convention.

Great bumping into you at the viewing dodsy, . . . we passed the time away in chat about all things Dredd until the film started. I also met Marco at the end of the film (which was awesome by the way) dressed in an amazing cosplay outfit as a nuclear Sherlock homes :-)

My con highlight was meeting Integra a.k.a Judge Anderson and getting some nice pic's of her cracking heads in her Judge outfit. Also met David Lloyd and got a fantastic Guy Fawkes sketch from him (a fantastic end to the best Thought Bubble Convention yet).

Slaine by Simon Davis

Great ain't it.
I handed my sketchbook to Simon after helping him out with something and then rushed off to the Sunday Minty screening. Initially my mind went blank as to what I wanted and Large48 suggested Slaine so I went with that. Thanks Large48, great choice.

When I went to collect it I was blown away. It is beyond a sketch to me, it is a piece of fine art. I love the few sketches I have but this is incredible. I absolutely love it and keep looking at it.

I saw some other "sketches" of Simon's and they were fantastic. Even more amazing is that he wasn't charging anything for them!

Incredible artist and he has the best moustache in comics too. :-)

I think the portfolio review on Sunday was one of the highlights for me! Pete Doherty should be in stand-up.

A little annoyed I missed Minty but volunteer responsibilities called. Great to hear it go down so well though, all the more excited now!

Can't believe I missed Wagner either, considering I walked up the New Docks Hall only about fifty times you think I would'a copped him!

My time at Thought Bubble was sweeeeeet.

Met a lot of great people, including some illustrious members of this forum. A particular highlight was going out drinking with the Scottish Contingent on the Saturday night, which included the one and only Mr John Wagner. Another one was getting a sketch of Harke and Burr from Dean Ormston (they were haunting the Megazine when I first got into it and they've remained favourites of mine ever since).

Also won Leigh Gallagher's amazing cheerleading Joker sketch (which he did for a fundraising sketch-off) and Frazer Irving kindly drew me a Joker sketch too.

Sold a lot of copies of my comic No More Heroes (*cough* check link for ordering details *cough*). At one point a very nice American couple came over to the stall to take a look. I gave them the pitch and the guy liked the sound of it so much he bought every issue. After they left the guy at the next stall turned to me and said, "That was Mark Waid."

Yeah, I unknowingly sold my wee comic to one of the biggest names in the business. I even offered to sign it for him.  :-[

And this is something I find brilliant. Genuine 'giving back to the fans'.
The sketches & doodles, the free banter.

I am not good with asking people for their time so I have few autographs. Got a Grandville from Bryan Talbot, he does a sketch ad and signature as standard. And chats as he draws.

I got John Wagner's on my TB Program.

Was going to ask Lauren for hers but only saw her at Money screening.

I want to ask... Wanted to get a 2000ad 35th anniversary sketch book n get loads...

I dunno, pretty silly...

I'm not going to say "and what do you KNOW artists but her nipples weren't BURROWING through leather" but I won't. I won't say it.

The Planet Replica judges were the bees knees - I managed to get a pic of them squaring off against the cardboard ones. Who were living gods.

Oh they where.... ;-)

So WHO is Mark Waid?

Finally got around to taking photos of some of my haul. Very pleased with the stuff I got at Thought Bubble. My pride and joy a Dante page (wayhey so chuffed, is over at the Original Art Thread) here's a few of the signatures I'm particularly happy with.

To put this politely as possible, which one were you? lol. I was sat with the wife on the left side of the screen when there were only 3 loads of people in really early.

I was the hansome bald headed bloke  ;) directly across to your right.

Still cringing at this. Might as well have gone up to Charlie Adlard and offered to show him how to draw zombies.
