rok was in comic scene for a while. so i think shift, with it's amazing production values, would be a perfect home.

That's actually a very good point. The second volume hasn't quite had the level of content as the first yet but something like Rok would be a real boon to that... mind when was the last issue? Feels like a while...

That seemed very positive, if not, of course, definate yet.

Brief interjection to remind everyone that Nikolai Dante ENDED ten years ago this week.

Ended.

Are we feeling old yet?

SBT

STOP THAT!!!

Shame, but inevitable this one I guess. I much prefer Tribal Memories tight brilliance compared to the meandering Meltdown Man, but it was never going to challenge and I'm glad its getting the support it is. Result comfirmed tomorrow.

Metalzoic just hasn't quite had enough to offer real resistance to the Horned God and co. There is a day to go and who knows but there is a very clear leader here. Result (confirmed) tomorrow.

Well we’ll start Round 4 with no gush of excitement. No giddy anticipation of the tough, enthralling ties to come. Instead to really fire up those juices with a service announcement! Turn around is so fast I’ve not been mixing up these thread openers the way I intended and just kept rattling on with the same ol’ format (for the posts the comp ain’t changing). I had plans and maybe next round but for now, well if it ain’t broke and all that… what and EXPLOSION into Round 4 hey!

One of my favourite ties of the Round, what contrasts. A done in one, short compact, horrific and timely. To a long sprawling epic that lost its way so many times and arguably had its finest hour under the writer of its opponent. Both had glorious art serving them well almost through in the case of Rogue. Feels like there is a favourite but I think there might might be an upset here.

Form book:

Cradlegrave - Bye; Scarlet Traces; Pandora Perfect
Rogue Trooper - Bye; Harlem Heroes (Reboot); Time Twisters

Cradlegrave - more info

Vs

Rogue Trooper (Rogue) - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Saturday 9th July and the winner gets a place in Round 5 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need ‘um and can be bothered to follow ‘um there’s some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Will the modern classic give a stuffing to the grandmaster? Interesting contrast in thrills here, with very different tones, but both showing superb craft.

Form book:

Brink - Bye; Mercy Heights; Shako
Lawless - Bye; Maelstrom; Dry Run

Well I guess since I want more Rok I'd love to see them go the Scarlet Traces route and I reckon thats

Tharg should show them the money and buy the whole nine yards

we can put dream.

I'm no longer a brand loyalist - used to be a big DC booster - but I don't really favour one publisher over another, though to be fair I probably read more Image than anything else these days.

All that said there is one publisher there that I probably favour more than any other on that list and its

Cinebook

Hastily rescheduled tie as the previous one on the slot hadn’t actually finished its Round 3 predecessors at the time of typing! Battle of intricate art maybe. Both excellent tales as well, but you know (well if you read along) by view on the thrill deserving of a place in the final here!

Form book:

Mazeworld - Bye; Janus PSi Division; Damnation Station
Lawless - Bye; Samizdat Squad; Chimpsky's Law

Prog / Re: Prog 2289: Shotgun Diplomacy

Decent Prog, certainly a bit step up from last time mainly due to Dexter.

Dredd nice opening episode, with a warning that it might all get slippy with the timeframes. We'll see but certianly perks the interest and Goddard give good Dredd.

Hope we knew would be in 2 (or more?) 'reels' and so on that basis this final part is a good one. Pulls us further in and then ends on a great cliffhanger. Anyone else got a real Fatale (as in Phillips and Brubaker Fatale from the image on the final page?)

So yeah its a surprise to learn that this Dexter will be the penultimate story in Bulletopia a story that offer so much, then fell apart of the momentum drifted but has recovered of late. I really hope the final story is an long 12 parter or similar, there seems a lot to sort out. ANYWAY to the present really nice opening part and I'm already into this one. Lets hope it has a more confident ending than the last one.

Skip Tracer aint too bad.

Brink on the other hand is bloody brilliant.

So yeah pretty good Prog.

Part 2

...and somehow Garth Ennis still has 2 thrills in contention, the same number as poor John Smith!

The lack of love for John Smith has been a real shocker for me. There's been some excellent thrills fallen from him - though in part due to some tough draws. There's a tie coming up where he might - in part at least - undo himself. Its one of my favourites of Round 4, but fills me with dread.

Artwise,
2000AD's greatest everyman Henry Flint still has 7 thrills in play

This fills me with great joy - though no need for 'everyman'!

Massimo Belardinelli, Colin McNeil and Simon Davis all on 5

I do wonder how much Massimo does the heavy lifting for the strips he's responsible for, compared to other artists. I've never been a massive fan of his (subjective art and all that) but I get the impression he earns more votes for his strips than others based on the comments.
