Books & Comics / Super CC - John Richardson
02 November, 2021, 09:54:31 AM
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/supercc/super-cc-book-1-by-john-richardson/description

I caught this thread on FB 2000ad tat and chat, and for some reason it caught my attention, and not because the bloke who announced this (is also admin in the group) urged to annoy other comic groups for fundraising. Although, a bit of warning: the description is quite spicy:
Super CC Book 1

Introduction :

Super CC was a regular comic strip within Custom Car magazine it ran for almost 16 years, it was completely written and drawn by Veteran comic artist John Richardson .

If you are unfamiliar with Super CC and his adventures, hmm best way to explain it, it wouldn't be commissioned in today world, it's sexist, misogynistic and many other offensive names, it's a dinosaur from the 1970's -1980's,

why reprint it then ?? It is a product of its time ,you can see clearly the dedication and attention to detail and it deserves to be reprinted.

The Book:

We have permission from Custom Car and the blessing from John Richardson's family to reprint this book.

This is the first time ( and maybe the last ) Super CC will have be collected in a massive A4 hardback form, Book 1 of Super CC will be over 100+ pages , 70% of the scans are from the original art and the rest have being professionally scanned and cleaned up for your enjoyment.

Please note postage within the UK will be £5 ,outside please contact me.

Anyway, I wouldn't have anything against MAD style of humour. I am not really familiar with John Richardson's work, but I love his brief stint at Future Shocks (which he wrote and drew).

Film & TV / Steven S.DeKnight vs CB Cebulski

I know this has been a long ago, and DeKnight is a bit late to the party, but he has a point here. But it's bonkers tying up his show with because of CB's wrongdoings in the past.

Off Topic / Real life accidents on film/tv sets
08 October, 2021, 10:13:22 PM
So let us begin.

First, thanks to Funt for suggesting a thread dedicated to this hot and rather peculiar subject which I am sure it can provide some thought-provoking discussions instead of trolling unrelated topics.

Accidents that claim people's lives in the movie industry aren't something new. Whose fault is it? The director's? Hackneyed equipment? Stunt person overstepping own capabilities? Mistakes in sfx and prop department? Malfunctions in communication between the crew members.? All of the above? A film is a collaboration, and while the director might seem responsible for everything that happens on camera, irl is often the product of people in charge of several departments. Unfortunately, the Twilight Zone catastrophe isn't the first one in the history of cinema. I have seen recently Flight of the Phoenix (the 1965original), where a stunt guy is killed by sheer destiny. Obviously, filming of dangerous scenes takes a lot of preparations which can last for weeks, in order to measure up every possible aspect in avoiding life defying risks and to get the precious gold-worthy seconds of usable footage.

Now, about Twilight Zone...Landis definitely stepped over his work ethic when he had those kids to work over pre-estimated hours that allow children on a film set. His second mistake was not informing children's parents about the perilous level of the stunt. His third mistake - rushing up the shoot. But it's insane, if not infantile blaming everything on one man, whose job isn't even to research, prepare, and calculate everything that he needs to have his shot. I am sure that everyone are aware that filmmaking is a tough, often stressful experience, where everyone involved carry a high level of responsibility for what is their job in film production.

"When you read about the accident, they say we were blowing up huts—which we weren't—and that debris hit the tail rotor of the helicopter—which it didn't. The FBI Crime Lab, who was working for the prosecution, finally figured out that the tail rotor delaminated, which is why the pilot lost control. The special effects man who made the mistake by setting off a fireball at the wrong time was never charged."

(For the record, I read what the commission reported on the incident)

Ofcourse, I wish that people here don't stick up strictly to Twilight Zone; hence, I am sure there are equally valuable other subjects of a similar ilk worth of discussion.

Without going too much into this (Bill in some cases is totally spot on, like for Dan Slott), but I think there's more to it, but can't put my finger on what exactly.
I doubt these men (and women) hate their jobs so much they have to be rude and obnoxious. But when Bill quotes something that happened 40 years ago, I see no relation with contemporary times (times changed since 1960s and 1970s).

What do you think?

General / Darkie's Mob
29 April, 2021, 10:06:41 PM
Didn't know where to put this topic so I decided to start the new thread here.

Has anyone read this series from the mid 1970s? Recommendations, commiserations...? As I understood, it was pretty controversial back in the day. So, is it worth getting it?

Thx in advance.

Inspired by similar thread on millarworld forum (before it vanished or I was shadow banned), I dedicate this thread to comic book panels or a simple panel that made you laugh, whether it's simple "ha" or multiple "ha", regardless the context. So here I go.

And my personal favorites.

General / Essential Judge Dredd America trade
08 March, 2021, 09:52:14 PM
I couldn't find a thread where I'd appropriately ask this question, but is anybody know what stories/progs are contained in this trade? I just noticed it on amazon, perhaps I'll buy it, although I read all Dredd stories up to America (I noticed on Amazon sample Letter from Democrat and Revolution arc).

Like the title says, can we get the reprint of the third RT trade soon (as it is out of stock)? My collection looks pretty dire without it :)

Welcome to the board / Hi everyone

I finally managed to pass intelligence test, now famous "redd" instead of "dredd". Anyway, thank for letting me join your family. I admit I didn't read 2000ad that much, at least not when compared Marvel or DC. But 2000ad did something that those two didn't. Once a was awfully depressed, so much I even remember the dates, and really was in awful condition.
It's where I picked a copy of JD: Day the Law Died and immensely loved it. Especially humor and immediately I felt better.
Now, I read 2000ad from time to time, collect trades, and such. I finished few days ago Future Shocks vol2, then ordered vol1.
I even consider developing my scripts for submission, once lockdown gets lifted up.

Cheers, people.
