Events / Leamington Comic Con 2018
16 April, 2018, 12:28:16 PM
Made a whistle-stop tour of the Spa Comics-organised Leamington Comic Con at All Saints' CofE Church on Saturday 14th April. That's right, a comic con in a church. There was even a non-paper based mighty organ ;)

Three other UK cons were on that weekend, including the popular Margate Art Festival, but the guest list was still very good. 2000AD was more than adequately represented with the likes of John Wagner, Al Ewing and Jon Davis-Hunt. Other con stars attending were the Etherington Brothers, Reckless Hero, John Laight, The Awesome Comics podcast, and many more.

I didn't have time to speak to everyone but the interview with John Wagner was great, and I had quite a chat with him afterwards. I managed to have a quick word with Al Ewing too, as well as bagging a few goodies.

This was my first trip to the Leamington con, but I'll definitely return for a fuller visit next year.

Late to the party, as usual  :-[

Like others, keeping it down to just five is tough, but I've had a go:
1. Black Hammer
2. Southern Bastards
3. Postal
4. Super Sons
5. Dept. H

I feel like 2017 was a great year for creator-owened titles. I hope 2018 continues in the same vein.

Does androids dream of electric sheep by Philip K. Dick

Been 20 or so years since I last read this one. Picked it up after the watching 2049. While I like story in Blade runner 2019 and 2049 better, I still really liked the book. Especially the bits with the animals. A thread I wouldn't mind a possible future Blade Runner movie picking up on. Also mercerism.

I'm aching to read this one again by just writing about it :) But first I'll read a scanner darkly and Man in the high castle.

Btw. Anyone read Philip's The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch? I've seen in book shops. Any good?

I read Do Androids? just before the movie came out, so 35 years for me. The things that I remember most are the bits with the animals (as you mention), and the concept of kipple - the worthless rubbish lying around in drawers that seems to multply when you're not looking. Trust me, it's real!

I recently promised myself more PKD, and so far I've read Man in the High Castle and Martian Time-Slip, both of which I enjoyed immensely. I quite fancy The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch next.

Thanks for the warm welcome Earthlets.  :)

I've got quite a few missed Thrills to catch up on, so I'll be checking out the forum out for reviews.

Welcome to the board / Hello everyone!

Why didn't I know there was a 2000AD community forum before?

My first Prog was 30 ('The Return of Rico'), just after my 13th birthday, and I was hooked. I collected weekly until around 1990, and then bought the very occasional Prog or Special after that. I returned to the fold fully (Megazine an' all) about three years ago. And I'm very glad I did: 2000AD still amazes and delights.

I was fortunate enough to win the 2000AD Writing Competition 2016, and my Future Shock was published in Prog 2023. It was a wonderful experience to see my story print in the GG, and I hope to be able to contribute again one day.

I look forward to 'chatting' with everyone.
