Events / Cardiff Independent Comic Expo - Saturday July 8th, 2017
« on: 25 April, 2017, 05:53:17 PM »
Been pondering over this for awhile, and have now booked myself a weekend in Cardiff to catch this.

Quite a tasty line-up, and will go a good way to satisfying those post-40th bash cravings.

Amongst others, the guest list will include; Ben Willsher, David Roach, Henry Flint, Dylan Teague, Jon Davis-Hunt, Rufus Dayglo, Patrick Goddard, Mike Collins.

Full details - here

I guess this has been running for a couple of years now, so are there any other forumites that will be attending this?

General / Cover of the Year - 1979
« on: 30 July, 2013, 05:49:07 PM »
I guess we all know the drill by now - simply pick your three fave cover's from the year in question.

1.) Prog 131, and a absolute killer Bolland Dredd

2.) Prog 116, and King Carlos comes up with the goods - yet again. Think one of our own is lucky enough to own the original art for this.

And last, but no means least;
3.) Prog 99 features some classic Gibbons, from a classic story - and a cover that's just pure 2000ad.

Just doing a bit of shelf tidying, and as usual, ive gotten sidetracked and started doing a bit of re-reading. This time its my old TTA books.
Which got me thinking, did anyone else enjoy these books?
There was four large format books in total  - Spacecraft 2000 - 2100AD (1978), Great Space Battles (1979), Space Wrecks : Ghostships and Derelicks of Space (1979) and Starliners : Commercial spacetravel in 2200AD (1980).
They were written by Stewart Cowley (with the exception of the 2nd TTA book, which was co-written with Charles Herridge), and featured art that had previously appeared elsewhere, but were used in the TTA books as the basis for Cowleys stories. My favourite artist being the incredible Peter Elson - http://www.peterelson.co.uk/

Spacewrecks was an absolute favourite of mine, and still is.

General / Unpublished Ezquerra Dredd pages
« on: 06 January, 2012, 03:59:44 PM »
Since this an old subject matter, this might have been posted on before, but a quick search has revealed nothing, so i was wondering if anyone has any information about the first Dredd story as drawn by Carlos Ezquerra. In the 1981 Judge Dredd Annual its states that along with the five pages that were completed, two pages of pencils were also produced before work on the story was halted.
If they were part of the same story, then that would take its page count up to seven, which would have been long for any 2000ad story at that time. The story seems complete without them.
I know that the finished pages have been reprinted a few times, and that un-censored panels from these were printed in the Judge Dredd - the mega history book, but have the two additional pencil pages ever seen the light of day? Any help/info/links on this would be brilliant.

General / Judge Dredd - Super Cop.
« on: 11 December, 2011, 01:38:41 PM »
Managed to fill a gap in my 2000ad collection this week by finally getting hold of a copy of the 2000ad Space Quiz Book from 1980.
This page made my chuckle with its "2000ad - a comic for kids" style of advertisement.
It also seems to have solved the question - Is Dredd a Anti-hero?, A Bully?, A Totalitarian Thug? A Fascist Boot-boy? No, none of the above....he's a Super Cop!

General / Favourite free gift 2000ad or otherwise.
« on: 01 August, 2011, 08:41:48 PM »
Since the update last week my search option doesnt seem to work any more (anyone else have this problem?), so if this topic has already been posted and commented on in the past then apologies, but checking out the "first prog and why?" topic i was reminded of how id buy owt if it came with a free gift - i seem to remember buying the first issue of bullet(?) and that only came with a crappy little plastic ring, if memory serves. So i was wondering what peoples favourite free gift was for 2000ad and/or any other UK comic.
For non-2000ad, it has to be the hookjaw transfer that came with issue 2 of Action.I suspect, as was so often the case, a friend had bought the issue in question before me, and had already had his free gift emblazoned on a t-shirt and that would have sent me running to the nearest newsagent.
For 2000ad, i always had a soft spot for the Dredd badge that came with Prog 300. Think i bought at least 2 copies that week.
