Found this on Barney today. http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=thrill&page=profiles&choice=vanguard

I've never head of this strip and the fact that the only story was titled "Book One" would suggest it wasn't a success. So, what was it about and why only one book?

Greg M.

'Mutiny on the Bounty' in space with a lady protagonist. It was poorly received and hence got the chop. In fairness, it was a bit dull - however, I have a sneaking suspicion it would have found its feet in the second book. I'm sure there's something in 'Thrillpower Overload' where Robbie Morrison suggests it would have gone off in an unexpected or exciting direction, and I would tend to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I saw the thread title and came here to type 'Mutiny on the Bounty in Space', so yeah, that really is it in a nutshell. I really liked it, actually. Didn't set the world on fire but equally there was little to really fault. Loved MacNeil's ship designs as well.

I think he said the next books (and the real meat of the whole affair) would have been the insane former Captain's pursuit of his errant crew across space, which was what the first book was setting up.

It was technically sound, but I recall finding the misogyny-as-verisimilitude atmosphere really grating at the time.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. There's a few thoughts here about it.

Including Colin MacNeil's vague memories about where it was going.

That was in my first prog - very striking Colinwork slightly over-lensflared by Chris Blythe I think. But that was the style at the time...

Bat King

I don't remember this one and can't spot those Progs... (my filing system is less of a system...)

Actually, this one also self-deleted from my memory banks, so can't have been that memorable!

Mine too - and it's very hard to hate things that were in your first progs.
