We’ve DONE IT - the final week of Round 1 - well done. You’ve earnt a break after all this work … so to respect that there’s one less vote this week. Just the 7 - I know I’m as generous as Tharg. If things are going to plan I might keep momentum up and BLAST straight into Round 2… enjoy the break!

LAST TIE OF ROUND 1 - phew - it's been a blast and interesting to note (well interesting to me) that we get both of 2000ad’s medical dramas in this final week. Which will be the final thrill voted through to Round 2. Don’t forget if you’ve not seen a thrill it's ‘cos it either got a bye, or didn’t get drawn in Round 1. The missing thrills will join all the winners from this round in Round 2 coming very soon! For now though...

Which most rattles your thrill-receptors:

Go-Machine - more info]

Vs.

Mercy Heights - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 16th January and the winner gets a place in Round 2 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need ‘um and can be bothered to follow ‘um there’s some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Mercy Heights
When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord’s way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death’s in case we didn’t take the hint.

There are a few episodes of Mercy Heights that are really very good, but both series end up going off the boil once the actual plot starts to take over. Go Machine's only crime is that it's so very short, we don't get enough.

I'm voting against 2000AD's second-best medical soap opera, and in favour of it's best 'televised future MMA' drama: Go Machine.

The first ever Tharg's 3riller (that didn't even realize it was one) vs. the GI-teasing hospital in space that's somehow a perpetual war zone ...

... it's gotta be Mercy Heights, innit.

(Perhaps if there'd been a sequel: Go-Go Machine?)

With a sense of sadness and relief I type one of these for the last time in Round 1 as Round 2 looms. Your very, very last chance to vote in Round 1. Grasp it, hold it like you do your very children, if you have any, if not your favourite comic. Grasp it and live it for tomorrow it will be gone. Gone.

Gone.

VOTING CLOSED

So there we have it. Not the most inspiring final tie, I mean Mercy Heights never really got to where it seemed to be going and never reached its ambition. Go Machine, as a proto 3riller didn't really have space to have too much ambititon (though to be fair 3rillers have since made a mocker of that) but did what it needed to do. In the

Mercy Heights

is just that much more memerable I guess and stumbles rather than strides in Round 2.

AND WE'RE DONE! SEE YOU MONDAY FOR...

...Drum roll...

ROUND 2

Missed the deadline, but Mercy Heights.
