Final week of Round 4 and Round 5 beckons. As ever some interesting match ups, but again this feels like a week when some 'weaker' thrills will end their runs and Round 5 will have unbelievably tough calls, not that Round 4 hasn't but the quality will just keep ranking up and up as we go on.
Last tie of the round and rather than say anything celebratory all I can really do is emphasise the 's' at the end of one of the contenders. The 's' is VERY important

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.
Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 31st July and the winner gets a place in Round 5 (of 9!!!).
What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)
For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)
Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Ampney.
StrontS
Ampney Crucis. The 2 vols of the DogS in the UC so far have been middling at best.
Ampney Crucis.
Strontium DogS for me
More of an anti-Ampney vote than any recognition of quality on Dogs part. Sorry!
Ampney Crucis continues its run of defeating 'S' thrills.
Ampney. Dogs had its moments, and had Hogan been allowed to continue might have been a great strip. But it was taking too long to get anywhere, and – with the exception of Monsters and Heartses – Ennis's work on the strip is the nadir of that continuity.
Strontium Dogs
Because this* version of Feral was one of my favourite members of the SD supporting cast, and because I also love the Gronk, I'm going with Strontium Dogs.
*I have chosen to disregard the reboot
on account of how he was depicted and the horribly sad end that he met. Of anything that Wagner has written, this is the only story of his that I can recall actively disliking.
Mm. That bit in the spoilers really didn't sit right with me, and although
Wagner was obviously going for a playful jibe with the 'notorious fantasist' thing with Ho-gan, that came across as mean-spirited
.
Can I please remind voters that later Strontium Dogs was so poor that even the artist drew thrill suckers into it...
...and also that Ampney Crucis features scenes of naked satanic zombie septegenarians running amuck in a seaside town?
Ampney Crucis gets my vote, for reasons expressed above.

*Just because it features the average 2000AD reader demographic, that still doesn't make it the better strip IMO. :D
Strontium DogS...because I plan to read it. I have no plans to read Ampney. Clearly I have no right to vote this round...
Ampney Crucis a nice change of pace for the Prog, great art and some nice Easter eggs.
Ampney Crucis.
I enjoyed it and would've liked to have seen more.
Cheers
Strontium Dogs: I'm contractually obligated to stick up for Monsters (because it was a solid, taught action-thriller), but everything after that was a bit pants. You may not like the character of the original Gronk as a timid medic, prone to heart attacks - but that's what he was. Turning him into Rambo-Gronk or, later, the Gronkinator, is just pissing all over the character design. Make your own character instead?
Ampney's not perfect, but it pips Monsters.

Ampney Crucis.
Best thing about it was Simon Davis art.

The final vote of Round 4 hold no mystery as we head into our final day of voting. I'll announce the result in the morning and a possible (we'll see how I get on in the next couple of days) delay for Round 5. See you in the morning.
VOTING CLOSED
So Round 4 comes to an end and we wrap up with a pretty straight forward result. Strontium Dogs has done well, largely based on comments on the back of Monsters. Some of the latter stuff is much less fondly remembered and that seems to have caught up with the thrill. Ampney Crucis has its own weakness, its ends, if end it is, with a wimper not a bang. Suffering from that Edgington desire to move onto new things which dogs a number of his thrills will that cost it as we go on? We'll see as
Ampney Crucus
Gets trapped in the out dimension of Round 5.
