Kingdom 7-9 (126)

There's only another two books of Kingdom, not three.

Not so much a question to Edie as anyone on here - when Dante toasts 'what might have been' with Jocasta, who is it he is thinking of? Is that a young Jocasta?

Surely it's Jena?

General / Re: 2022 -Message board Advent Calendar dates (list)

The board isn't as populous as it was in the early days of the advent calendar, sadly.  Not to worry though, I'll appreciate anything that anyone has to offer, and if it doesn't fill up quickly I'll throw in a second entry.

We've lost a lot of Advent stalwarts over the past 5/6 years - Buttonman and Pete Wells long since drifted away to that new-fangled social media, Commando Forces and others into self-imposed board exile, Bolt sadly no longer with us...

It's been a long time since I contributed, and with a disabled toddler on my hands this is unlikely to be the year I dive back in!

Isn't it, though? Be interesting to see what's in this one - hopefully the Sentenoid story makes the cut.

Judge Dredd: Regicide

Well, this one snuck up quietly! I wasn't hugely enamoured by (what I read of) the Red Queen/Orlok stories on the whole, but I have to say I am mighty tempted by the Lynch-tastic exclusive hardback...

If they are making enough money from the exercise then extending by including lawman of the future and DC Dredd etc is not impossible ...
We have Starlord and Tornado strips in the collection already...

But they're been included specifically to complete a run of stories which concluded in Tooth (Ro-Busters and Blackhawk). I can't see them including material in the UC which has only ever run in a completely seperate title.

Thank you for a great thread so far!

Thirded! (Fourthed?)

Always a great read.

Wonder if they will do an environmental one with trash and I think was dead meat with inspector ram

Um... I'm going to say 'No'.

Although you could round it out with Mother Earth, for a truly dire expierience.

The way I remember it, the Next Progs of the eighties were wonderfully inventive – sometimes not so much teasers as almost a part of the story. I’d forgotten Zenith until you mentioned it, but there are a few that have always stuck in my memory.

Strontium Dog often excelled on that score, with "No snecks, please, we're brutish" being a particular highlight…

Great Sneckspectations another, and I'm fond of 'For Whom the Bill Tells' leading to an episode where Johnny is outed by a mutant duck!

But with some strips - and particularly with Brink - a single dialogue scene can stretch across two or even three episodes.

That's a record for a FF book surely - dead in three paragraphs and on my first choice?

My personal record is death in paragraph 1 - in Stormslayer you immediately meet a rampaging manticore. I've attempted the book twice and never made it to paragraph 2! 😅

Prog / Re: Prog 2308 - Knockout Blow!

I really l ike the art in Enemy Earth. The story is clichéd, but it's a cliché I don't know if we've seen in the Prog itself since, like, Disaster 1990??

...I’ll have to fork out every time they launch one. I’d settled for 1 a year but if they plan to do the complete run up to the Final Solution by my count that could be around another 8 years!!

I'm really in two minds about this series. Courtesy of Hachette I already have the whole of Stront in hardback. The first Search/Destroy volume was the Starlord stuff, missing from Hachette, which made it an insta-buy, and this volume will have the Journey into Hell colour spreads, greyscale in the Hachette book. After that... I'm going to be paying for exactly the same content twice.

Dreams in the Witch House, however, was beyond awful. Lovecraft's story turned into a limp Harry Potter fan-film. It's not often I watch an HPL adaptation and fail to find anything within that arguably added extra (if completely different) elements of enjoyment, but Witch House managed it. Pitiful. Shits in the Shit House, more like.

I watched that one yesterday, and it had me wondering whether to even bother continuing with the series. Shits in the Shit House indeed!
