Film & TV / Re: Frozen (Disney)

Much better fare than some of Disney's recent offerings but some of the characterisation was a bit one dimensional.  Been inflicted with the soundtrack pretty much constantly ever since.  In summer ....

How sad are we discussing this? :|

Off Topic / Re: Starlord #1 Free Badge Varients

picked up a couple for £15 - £20.  The last couple through Silver Acre were a more expensive £25 each.  They seem to come in fits and starts on ebay.  One complete set I was chasing went for £90 roughly as I was sniped at the last minute  :(!

Prog / Re: Prog 1867 - Fight The Power

Overall a pleasant read this week.  Dredd seems to be suffering from being continuity heavy.  Be interesting to see where Wagner is taking things with this idea of the impotence of Justice Dept.  Feels like Day of Chaos hasn't fully finished yet.

Am I the only one that is really struggling with Strontium Dog?  Johnny Alpha seems so far out of character it jars.  I liked the idea of the early days stuff but this current tale just doesn't sit right.

I saw them play the title track from that live once upon a time and it was magic.

Amen ... saw them in Koln back in the nineties... One of the best gigs I've ever been to.  One of their tracks was being played on the radio the other day whilst the presenter was wurbling.  Wanted to scream at them to shut the f*** up and let us hear the music but then I realised I had made it to work so it wouldn't have mattered much anyway!

As an aside, going through a bit of Floyd phase at the moment.  Had a couple of iTunes vouchers for Christmas so trying some of the earlier stuff.

That was my thought as well.  How did she land up there .... Have to go back and have a trawl.

Yep. I'm a huge fan of Matt Brooker. He seems perfect for this strip—dynamic and imaginative execution, finely balancing a certain amount of realism with outright madness.

Amen.  I also had a quiet chuckle at the Pink Floyd tribute with the teacher.

Dark Horse also did a really nice job on them.  Quality hardbacks.  Scarlet Traces (reprinted in the Meg) and The Great Game both have a nice sketch gallery at the end with commentary by D'israeli.  A piece of his work from any of these would go down as a Grail Piece for me I think!

I expect this has probably been mentioned already, but will there ever be a reprint of the Stainless Steel Rat stuff?  I have all the Eagle reprints, but it would be so nice to have them in one bound volume.  Are there some kind of copyright ramifications?

Umm...?

Cheers!

Jim

It would be great though if they could give the Eagle edition the same treatment as the Eagle Nemesis though.

Edginton and D'israeli's adaptation of War of The Worlds and it's sequels are well worth a read for my money, especially for D'israeli's art.  Alien Legion has it's moments as well.

Tooth seems to be getting a lot of press on CBR these days.  Had completely forgotten when the original Sweet tales were.  This http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=49836 was a help!

#38 is by a considerable distance the most expensive comic I've ever bought.

For me that would have to be tooth prog 1.  Foolishly missed a number of opportunities over the years and ended up with a higher end price tag.  Not that I'm complaining too much.

The last time I read it I remember thinking the first issue looked spectacular then being a bit up and down. As the Prof observes, that's probably down to the difficulties of colouring something which wasn't drawn with that in mind.

I started out with the Epic version back in the early nineties courtesy of a friend from Hatfield Polytechnic.  The variability was down to the reproduction of some of the painted pages verses the colourised black and white. I personally thought that they did a cracking job.  For me it was Otomo's architecture that was the real standout.

They had trouble with some of the latter issues and I think the last dozen or so took years to come out  (issue 24 dated 1990, issue 38 dated 1995!).  I did have copies of the Dark Horse B&W as well but passed them on to one of our sixth formers since I still had the Epic editions and needed the shelf space.  The original B&W works incredibly well as well but that may be down to old school tooth sensibilities.
