I don't think there's a problem with borrowing another artist's layout if it's fully acknowledged as a learning opportunity (rather than a commercial one) and you've chosen to borrow from a nice bloke who isn't likely to go thermonuclear too. He might well be flattered.

And in a lot of professional art, 'quotations' are going on all the time, especially the Last Supper by Da Vinci. It's often to make a point or for fun.

And adding a note to the piece (as has been done) is seen as good form.

Well its my first go with my new wonderful wonderful Cintiq and Manga Studio so there's a host of mistakes as I've learnt. Its a colourist's nightmare (thank the maker there's not much lettering too huh!) and the composition could have been so much better. That said as it was my first go and a massive learning curve, with so much more I need to learn, I'm pretty happy with this, even though I kinda hate it! It's a gift for my Godson's B'day, oh and rushing at the end meant I copied the pterodactyl's from Calvin and Hobbes (apologise to Bill Watterson). The actual piece will be A3.

I coloured it using Manga Studio... I've never computer coloured before so there was no way I was trying to learn to packages!

I'm still to work out vectors etc so I kept it very simple.
