Thanks Steven for your comments... what I really like about the illustration is the boots !!... the light on them I find great!

The James Coburn inspired Major Eazy from 70's comic, BATTLE
An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

I remember Mr Coburn well in Cross of Iron along with Maximillian Schell and much slow motion blood splatting. Lovely dark/light combo Daveycandlish.

Finally, finally got this panorama finished. I cannot believe how long it has taken.

It was originally intended to be a collaboration with a cg artist friend, but has ended up being pure illustration. The background 'set', including vehicles and street furniture was in fact first made in crude 3d, the models were then used as a basis for the drawing. Kind of time-consuming in the short term, but was a fun learning experience.

Planning on getting an enormous print done at some point, the image is huge, and detailed enough that I can go huge!

Very cool Radiator, You've handled the 2d elements well sitting with the 3d background not always an easy combination to get right.

Did you use google sketchup ?

How long was a long time ?

My only crit would be to tone down the lens flare / god rays. Unless this area is the main focal point it leads the eye away from the other interesting things going on.

Far too long, over two years from start to finish as it has all been done piecemeal. its rare to find enough free time to get a good run at it and im easily distracted. The lion's share of work has been done over the last few weeks though.

3d all done with Sketchup, yeah. Very useful tool. Time-intensive, but takes all the pain out of drawing buildings/perspectives etc.

Point taken about the sunbeams - easy enough to knock them back a bit.

One question Woolly, is the character your own or is he based on someone?

Glad you like it :)

It's a character i created for an on-off project that is currently off, sadly. Used photo ref of an actor i found (the old guy from the opening scenes of Peter Jackson's King Kong), so you could say a bit of both!
