Well, that was great fun as always.  I'd forgotten that Arkady was a racist little shite on top of all his other unpleasant qualities.
And don't worry about scaring anyone off, the lack of activity on this thread isn't because of you - Activity across the whole forum has sadly been in decline for a long time, but it's been particularly noticeable, to me at least, in recent months. 

Finally, thanks, Edie, for your kind comments re. my artwork on instagram! Truth is, I wish I could paint Fraseresque future Moscow cityscapes and swashbuckling action shots of bioblades skewering Raven guards, but it seems my talents are restricted to stylised murals of canal barges, bridges, fields and cherry blossoms.

Lovely stuff all round. I particularly like Nightbook's Armitage - I'd go so far as to say he's nailed the look better than Armitage's actual current illustrator (who I still like a lot).

These reviews are great fun - keep them coming, folks!  I realise I never stop banging on about Jim Moon and his podcast Hypnogoria, but his audio walkthrough of City of Thieves is a treat to listen to.

Bugger. It's that kind of Toxic.  I was scouring the pages for a feature on Accident Man, Marshal Law and Muto Maniac.

Nice little Dredd one-off there, quite reminiscent of the Grant / Fabry one about the gods giving a citizen magic powers.  That's all I've read so far.

Wow, goodbye Super Gran.  The series was loads of fun when I was a kid - I even had the 48k Spectrum adaptation, which was admittedly much less fun.  According to Wikipedia, she was still in her 50s when playing the character, which makes me feel very old.

It was Brigand Doom for me - it was at least 15 years before I realised it was a play on Brigadoon.  I thought it was ok, but when I finally got round to reading V for Vendetta I realised it was a bit of a cheap knock-off (though not before someone on this board pointed it out to me).  I always liked the Tomlinson / Staples one-off in one of the specials though.

Yep, great art for a great script. Blind Iggy is 'a strict Jovus Witless and refuses to wear bios, which is a pretty moronic thing to do and warns him a lot of cred with the gang'.

Also that poor kid getting his nads crushed at the start - ow.

That metallic cover Mega Special was a better, if only for the Dredd story that occupied most of its pages.

Nothing deep or meaningful, just Mega City gang warfare at its absolute peak.

Just wanted to say, again, that this is a brilliant thread and blog, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the hard work you put into them, Richard.

Struggling with the after-effects of food poisoning, the following thought somehow popped into my mind: 'I bet Bambie Thug doesn't have to put up with this kind of thing'.  Then I remembered that Bambie Thug had to put up with exactly that kind of thing last week, and I must say I felt better.

Not that I'd wish any harm on Bambie Thug, of course - I think they're brilliant and wish them the absolute best.  Also it's great to Ireland represented by a non-binary, pagan type just as a little reminder that we've most definitely left the likes of Dana's priest-prescribed ultra-conservative shite behind us.

Just been going through one of my occasional UK punk phases - UK Subs, The Exploited, Anti-Nowhere League, that kind of thing.  Great to see a lot of them are still around and doing gigs, including the Subs' Charlie Harper who is a few months younger than my 80-year-old dad. 
And Wattie from The Exploited is still rocking the red mohawk at 66, and generally not looking very much like his real name is Walter.

He was a big part of the scene when I had a clue about music.  61 is way too young.  Goodbye, Steve, you'll be missed.

Just got through this one too - really enjoyable as always.  And I was never quite comfortable with all the homophobic jibes thrown at Papa Yeltsin.  He was almost certainly based on Uncle Monty from Withnail and I, who was also a sexually-forthright gay character, but Monty was never subjected to all that abuse by the other characters.
