By the way, Steve Jackson's new book Secrets of Salamonis will be illustrated by the prog's Tazio Bettin!

That is extremely cool news! The new artwork for the Scholastic editions has been generally awful.

Sir Ian would doubtless respond by asking us if we had three implausible objects, before telling us 'your abuse ends here!'

Great write-up, Richard! Every time I start writing a new one I wonder why I'm doing it to myself, but then other people's are so much fun to read!

Kingdom, which effortlessly created a character and world to rank among the true classics of 2000AD.

A character, a world, and a language!

According to Barney, Ro-Busters in its 2000 AD incarnation has about 200 pages of strip. So perhaps it will dip into Starlord.

Credits are Mills and Chris Lowder; Gibbons, Ian Kennedy and Carlos Pino.

Lowder, Pino and Kennedy only worked on the Starlord episodes of RB, of course, so that's one question solved!

There have been some absolutely outstanding [Future Shocks] but not for a long time.

The last great FS was only four progs ago!

A Harvey/Machine Law/Guatemala volume.
Armoured Gideon.
Survival Geeks.
The concluding books of Kingdom.
The Atavar trilogy.
More Lawless.

…Dogs just feels like a pale imitation of it's parent strip so far.

Yes it’s certainly that. It’s amazing that something set in the same world, with the same premise can be so…let’s say…different.

But you know- no Wagner or Grant and no Carlos.

It's the loss of Wagner, I think. Even the last few Stront stories proper - like Stone Killers and Royal Affair - are a bit meh, and yet they've got Grant and Ezquerra attached.

Well, exactly. Why not have a Peter Milligan volume? (Again, I suspect it’s down to what exists as immediately available material more than anything. Or at least, I’d hope so. Otherwise, Mean Arena? Really?)

Well at the risk of derailing the thread, yes, they totally should have done. Hoover up all those little Milligan oddities that aren't going to get reprinted anywhere else (Shadows, Freaks, Faces, Counterfeit Girl, round it out with some Bix Barton or Future Shocks).

Can't help feeling we'd have been better served with 2 books of HH rather than Mean Arena. Looking at Barney the page counts are about the same (HH+Inferno is 295 to Mean's 288) so I'm not sure why they decided to go this way.

Yep, two volumes that were an easy miss for me. Even Slaughterbowl can't convince me to get them! Mean Arena already lives in infamy as the strip that killed the Extreme Edition.

I still find it staggering that, as far as we know, [The Dead] won’t be a part of the UC (not least since Rebellion presumably has it in the archives, what with it being in the old Extreme Editions).

But it's such an odd fit! If you're not going to do a Peter Milligan volume (and it seems fairly certain by this point that they aren't) then what on earth do you collect it with?

Nothing wrong with Bendatti, but more or less everything right with Low Life.

Yep. Low Life.

And the other was the latest MCU movie. Which shite, and I'll leave it at that.

Why are you still watching these?

Leviathan is great in so many ways - just a bit short. Tyranny was a character in search of a story, and never really found it

Right? If a Skill 12 dragon doesn't warrant his intervention, what on earth is the point?

Still tempted to take another run or two at it - I'm aware it's very much a gamebook of two halves, and I've never yet made it to the second!
