Another week down! Two strange Walter flashback stories, the Forever Crimes and the Father Earth 4-parter.

Father Earth makes it as the favourite for me - mainly for the fantastic scene in Part 2 where Dredd "negotiates" with the mutant army by skidding his Lawmaster to cover them with dirt and threaten to chop them up!

Up and running for 2017, with a pretty good run.

Vienna for me was the standout, but the multi-part DNA Man and Exo-Men stories also had their fun. I also enjoyed the Cityblock double as a good expansion of the Dredd world.

All posts are now up on the site: https://dailydredd.wordpress.com/

This is the shame for me about the Mega Collection.
There have been hundreds of Dredd one-offs or shorter stories but many from the last 20 years are pretty forgettable tbh.
The stories in the Prog from around 110 to 300 were largely pure gold with inventiveness, fun and some of the best art ever seen in comics.
The shame is, because they are in black and white and often tricky to get decent source material most will not be included in the Mega Collection.
To my mind this is a gaping ommission as they are the very definition of essential Dredd.
You have my envy in encountering them for the first time you lucky sod.

Hi Trent - glad to hear that it looks like I'm about to hit a very good patch of stories! I see what you mean about the Mega Collection - it's one of the reasons I've started getting the Case Files as well. My completionist brain hates the idea of missing out on any!

I do have a soft spot for the Mega Collection as it was my first exposure to Dredd though - and they do look very nice on the shelf!

Between The Day the Law Died and Judge Child there's almost a year's worth of short stories that just shine for me. The strip feels fully developed and it just has so much fun. Having read these myself fairly recently I reckon your in for a great month ahead.

Thanks Colin! There's definitely already a maturity to the strips that is very different from those first 50 or so progs.

Thanks for the recommendations Rogue Judge!

Cry of the Werewolf is another to pay special attention to with the recent passing of Steve Dillon. IDW will be releasing a special re-print of the story as well as a 'what-if' twist on the story in March as well (http://comicsalliance.com/idw-judge-dredd-cry-of-the-werewolf-tribute-steve-dillon-hero-initiative/).

Sounds great - might be worth covering as an extra after doing Cry of the Werewolf!

So... not a lot then? What a shame.

In all seriousness, sounds very exciting! The only one I've read previously is the Apocalypse War (which came out pretty early in the Mega Collection), so I've got a lot of new discoveries ahead!

Happy 2017 everyone!

The blog is back up and running today with Prog #110 - Punks Rule.

https://dailydredd.wordpress.com/2017/01/12/prog-110-ive-come-to-collect-the-garbage-punks-rule/

I don't know if this might be helpful, but I also put together a quick "Index" page that has a simple list of each post. https://dailydredd.wordpress.com/case-files-index/

I'm looking forward to keeping up with this daily project. A quick plan ahead I did looks like I'll be at about Prog #430 by the end of the year. What do people suggest I have to look forward to between now and then?

Entries for the first six of the Annuals and Specials from the Restricted Files are now up! https://dailydredd.wordpress.com/category/2000ad/annuals-specials-1977-1986/

They're certainly a weird bunch - and a strange way to end the year! I hope people have been enjoying the posts, and I'm looking forward to starting up again in 2017 after a bit of a break.

So I've just wrapped up The Day the Law Died, and will be having a bit of a break from regular progs until mid-January. You can read my Final Judgement post here: https://dailydredd.wordpress.com/2016/12/14/final-judgement-the-day-the-law-died/.

For the next six days I'm going to post entries on some of the Annuals and Specials. They are certainly... interesting!

Thanks everyone! My favourite bit of (completely unplanned!) synchronicity was Prog #68 and the story of Bad Bob Booth being posted on the day a certain election took place...

Hi everyone!

I'm bad at both promotion and forums, but thought I'd post a little bit about the Daily Dredd blog I've been updating for the last little while. Basically I'm just using this Case Files and going through Judge Dredd one prog ever day.

I've just reached Prog 100, so seemed a good as time as any to spread the word a little bit more. As I say I'm the About page of the blog, I'm very new to the 2000AD universe and comics in general. Grateful for any feedback or thoughts!

You can find it at dailydredd.wordpress.com.

Thanks!
Liam

Enjoying the blog. Out of interest you mention that you the Case Files don't list artists etc. If you fancy finding out in Barney we trust...

Welcome to the forum! What was it about Dredd that fired your enthusiasm?

The America graphic novel was very cheap as the 1st issue of the Mega Collection, and I really enjoyed that. But I think overall was 2 main things. 1: the brilliant idea that time has passed in the series as it is has for us and 2: the dark humour and satire elements.

I've never been into superhero comics because they take themselves so seriously, and also seem to reboot themselves every other week. I can't keep up!

welcome to the site and good choice! You know that you can get a subscription for 2000AD from the main website? I know you are a long way from the UK but they send them over to Oz...

Thanks Si - I'm considering getting a digital subscription!
