It'd be interesting to know where the balance lies for reliable detection of position registration markers.  This artwork shows that you can get away with a fair bit as long as you understand the error-handling:

I doubt I would have spotted it if Dabnett hadn't said in an interview that there were going to be QR codes hidden in the strip. I saw it because I was looking for it.
