Genuine question - does the lawgiver only eject casings on covers? I’m sure I’ve seen it before om covers but not that I’ve seen it in stripwork.

But basically:

Here’s how I see it: Dredd’s gun is essentially a super sophisticated 3d printer. It holds multiple ingredients for building multiple types of bullet.

The device is primed (usually through spoken command, though it will default to smartly identifying the type of bullet) theory: maybe cadets are trained to shout out the bullet type so other Judges can have a better situational awareness. Dredd shouts “Armour piercing”? everyone else goes with Armour Piercing.

(Again, this is very much fan wank – the real reason Dredd shouts out the bullet type is so the reader knows what Dredd has fired…)

Why the shells? Well, the real reason is: they look cool. The in-my-head reason is that some of the raw material (but not all) is held in cartridges, and so they eject after they’re spent.

The question I have is, is it like my colour printer : where if you don’t have yellow ink you can’t (for some reason) print black and white. If you lack ingredient X can you still use bullet Y that doesn’t use it, or is the gun out of ammo?

I suspect some ingredients are common to all bullet types (projectile types? is bullet the right word?)

My 12 year old son has written and drawn a complete graphic novel called FLY - from his blurb (he wrote the blurb)

Finn is a teenager who works at a trash job in a trashy home but little did he know his life would take a turn for the worst when a speeding car runs him over and he ends up in hell. Since he didn’t live a good life he was turned into his least favourite animal, a fly and since he didn’t go into the brain crusher he still has all his memories of being a human! Can Finn convince his friend that it’s really him and can they find a way out of this mess?!

Off Topic / Starting from Nothing...

Was thinking today how odd it is that the entire Marvel film/tv universe was more-or-less kickstarted by Iron Man - a decidedly C-list character who was so obscure that Marvel - when desperate for cash and filling for chapter 11 practically couldn't give the movie rights away, leading to the marvel cinematic universe as we know it.

I've been watching Legends of Tomorrow (the CW tv series, that's basically a DC comics series) and thinking how odd it was that the entire CW tv series was more-or-less kickstarted from the Green Arrow who, presumably, DC couldn't get arrested in a film, leading to his tv success.

So, just wondering, let's play an imaginary game.

For 2000AD the big characters are off the board, you can't have Dredd, Strontium Dog, or indeed anything that has had multi year success in 2000ad - you can have weird one offs, series that were done in one.

What do you pick for your starting from nothing 2000ad universe ... does a Wolfie Smith tv series lead, somehow inevitably to Strontium Dog (via about half a dozen other characters?)

Do you start with Banzai Battallion (stripped of its Dredd world trappings) to get to a Robohunter movie?

What do you start with and how do you get to a Dredd film/tv? (please explain your thinking... )

The gist, Starting Saturday, I'll be doing Live Sketching from 9pm for around an hour. The sketches will be commissions, A5 pencil headshots for £30. If you'd like one just email me pjholden@gmail.com with the subject "Live Sketch: " then whatever it is you want in the subject. Payment on completion via paypal.

Why a5? Small enough to fit in envelopes that I can post through a letterbox. No need for the post office!

Plus £30 is a pretty reasonable price for a fun little sketch. And you get to watch me draw it live.

I can do about 7 per show, right now my list for Saturday IS EMPTY!
