I thought Revere was great; John Smith's stuff was probably the only reason I kept reading 2000 AD during its shite patch.

Suggestions / Re: Ultimate Judge Dredd

I agree to both these points. More stories by the team behind War Machine would have been great (although it works well as a one-shot--maybe something similar should be done with other 2000 AD characters after all). In fact, had the path been followed by said creators, maybe we'd be plauding Friday as a top 2000 AD character rather than one to flush down the crapper.

As for Dredd, I'm torn between keeping the tantalising glimpses of his world and developing it massively. The thing is, most non-Wagner stories have been awful. Most of the Brit stuff was okay, but most others weren't. With regards to just MC-1, there's no real need to start from scratch anyway. Even things that seem like continuity errors such as the police officers in early stories can easily be explained with a little thought: perhaps the police were phased out and he was one of the last, or maybe they had until the end of the century.

To be honest, the vast majority of swearing in 2000 AD right now seems pretty juvenile--rather like a young teen saying 'f***' behind his father's back.

Quite frankly, I reckon the Dredd approach still works, i.e. making exclamations up. The only strip that I reckon actually possibly benefitted from the swearing was Button Man. I can't think of one single other occassion where profanity was needed.

Mmm... Metalzoic is one of the best things Mills and O'Neill ever did, and I can't believe it was in the bottom ten, even if it's not now. I have a copy of the US GN, which is a little battered, but I got it fairly cheap on eBay, so I'm cool with it.

As for Wake's previous bottom ten, I'd say most deserve to be there, although I rather liked the first two runs of Universal Soldier.

One thing that does amaze me is how high the rating is for Dry Run, which is on a par with Wireheads and Junker in my opinion.

Well, Rebellion got back to me, and are only missing 4.15 and 4.16, so if anyone has spare copies, please let me know; otherwise, I'll be scouring the small ads...

Iceland has a very varied landscape (see http://www.snubcommunications.com/iceland for my photos of the country so far). The area near the airport in Keflavik is volcanic rock; Vatnajokull is Europe's largest glacier; Thingvellir has huge chasms where the tectonic plates of Europe and America meet; elsewhere there are deserts, moss-lands, huge mountains and idylic beaches... more than just ice! :)

Iceland was supposedly named so after the initial settlers saw Vatnajokull, had a really bad winter and thus dubbed it 'Iceland'. Greenland was named so because someone exiled from Iceland wanted to encourage people to move there!

It really is a beautiful country with a surprisingly mild climate and well worth visiting.

I scour eBay as a matter of course anyway, but people are only ever selling volumes one and two (and occassionally the odd vol 3 issue).

I emailed Rebellion this morning, so hopefully someone will get back to me.

As for Iceland, most of it is a sparsely populated place, but Reykjavik is similar in size to Cardiff or Reading, although it's a hell of a lot nicer with a tad more to do.

oddboy -- thanks.

devons daddy -- there are plenty of coffee bars in the city centre, and most are pretty expensive (like almost everything else here). However, I reckon all Icelanders would take exception to "and how far to the nearest fine resturant that does not offer seal and walrus pie as a signature dish."

While the 'traditional' winter foods during February aren't exactly top-of-the-range cuisine, they're mostly exactly that: tradition (or inflicted on unsuspecting tourists). The town centre in Reykjavik (where I live) has Indian, Chinese, Italian (etc) restaurantes within a ten-minute walk (and Iceland's sole comic shop).

As for an international Dreddcon venue, the country often looks like it's out of a sci-fi movie (in fact, bits of the Dredd movie were shot here). Check out my images at http://www.snubcommunications.com/iceland/

Erm, no; Iceland, as in the place with the geysirs, midnight summer sun, and lack of Megazine...

General / Megazine back issues
26 November, 2002, 12:26:16 AM
I stopped getting the Megazine at issue 4.04, as it was impossible to find in the area where I lived. However, I like the look of what's currently in the Meg and was thinking about subscribing, but only if I could get said back issues of 4.05 to the current issue. Where's the best place for this, and does Rebellion do such things itself?

I'm now in Iceland, and literally nowhere sells 2000 AD or the Megazine, so I can't check in the Mag itself. If anyone has some for sale, I could pick them up from my parents' house over Christmas.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

I think Wagner only uses other's ideas when it suits him; to that end, he ignored most of the Armitage Brit-Cit.

Yup--it's all set in the same continuum, which also had wetworks (an assassin of some sort). I really liked this Brit-Cit, too, and it's a shame it wasn't developed further.

Amazingly, it actually worked out cheaper to get the US version in Iceland (with the usual 100% mark-up that we have to endure on all books) than get the UK version shipped from Amazon. Now that just shows how much of a rip-off the UK print is. Mind you, I really liked it.
