Sorry, I had some ideas, and almost finished some stuff, but it was all tripe so I jettisoned it all.

ALL OF IT, I TELL YOU.

Badgers Tuesday

Hmm, I think you've hit on something there LMS. A Zombie / Grease musical crossover of somekind...

"Zo-hom-bieee, baby, I'm in misery
My limbs have gone, my eyes fell out, no longer can I see.
Living brains is all I eat I wish I could have Pie -ee-yei-ee-ei
Oh why, not pie, oh Zom-hombieee!"

Oh and the strips' looking good Phuz. Like that loads. That top frame on page two is virtually identical to a frame I cut from the original story. Fab!

"Oh  the eeeviiil, it's multiplyin'
And we're losing control
It's the deadness overriding
Ya Just not dyin'"

Next verse anyone?

Wils

Anyone bidding on this? Only 20 minutes left...

Dudley: No.

I've put this one the newsgroup and all the other forums I'm trawling for recruits, so thought I'd mention it here too!! If you're not already a member of the newsgroup, then you're missing all the offers of work ;)

I'm thinking that perhaps the first couple of pages of the mag should be a general round-up of current apocolyptic thinking and events. This will include the Doomwatch column.

The Indian Ocean tsunami has been a tragic event. But I've already heard a lot of analogies to The End of the World and I know some internet sites are already touting it as a pre-cursor for The End.

So, any pro or would-be journos want to have a crack at a 400-500 word article on people's response to the tsunami?

I don't need to tell you that it needs to be handled with a bit of sensitivity, but I would prefer you to focus two issues:

1) the prophecy 'machine' and how it tries to fit such a disaster into various different End Times prophecies; what the many doomsday websites have to say about it; whather it actually DOES fit into any prophecies (or whether anyone is claiming it does).

and (to a lesser extent)

2) the religious community's response to such a huge disaster

A quick news search turned the following news items. The first one is PARTICULARLY relevant ...

Cheers

LMS

Ps let me know if you think I'm being horrendously unsympathetic or crass by requesting such an article ...

**Blogging the end of the world
Sunday Citizen - New Hampshire
Sunday, January 2, 2005
http://www.fosters.com/January2005/01.02.05/news/art_01.02.05d.asp

In the aftermath of the devastating Christmas Day tsunami, the Internet was abuzz with various vague predictions from apostles, psalmists, Nostradamas, and other seers who supposedly foretold the disaster, thus signaling Armageddon.
Indian holy men blamed secular society, and Pakistani Imams blamed Hinduism. Meanwhile, Indian prostitutes showed them both up by donating their daily salaries to relief efforts.
Some amateur prophesiers got in on the action as well.
The blogger Brightsides, for example, utterly failing to live up to his name, worried the Tsunami might "set off some major chain of events that could lead to the fulfillment of end-of-the-world prophecy," while a fellow internet traveler admitted, "Suddenly I thought of manic street preachers and my (expletive) need to repent."

"Though some Christians might see it as a sign of the end times or a judgment from God, theologians say there are no easy answers behind the Dec. 26 tsunami that killed 150,000 people in Asia."

**EYEWITNESS - TORCUIL CRICHTON REPORTS FROM BANDA ACEH
Sunday Herald online

"THE outlines of empty eerie streets remain, but apart from that there is nothing to see through the shimmering air but rubble. It is an awesome panorama, unfolding over miles of what was Banda Aceh?s shoreside district, Lilele. As the eye adjusts to the sight, mangled shapes are discernable in the piles of brick and wood."

**'I thought it was the end of the world'
TodayOnline - Singapore

INDONESIAN Rizal Sahputra is a very lucky man. He not only survived the catastrophic tsunami waves that destroyed his village in Aceh and swept him into the sea on Boxing Day, but he managed to stay alive for eight days in the ocean by clinging to the branches of an uprooted tree.
"I wasn't afraid but felt a sense of regret because I thought it was the end of the world," he said.

Thanks Johnny!

Don't forget - it's just one month and 24 hours left to go to the deadline!  You might not think it's the end of the world, but it could just be! ;)
