Welcome to the board / Re: Hello
28 August, 2008, 02:31:43 PM
I don't really think this forum's a good idea - there are so many topics to keep abreast of, who's going to keep checking in just to see another "hi. I'm new here" message? And if one of these threads goes unanswered, it could put a newbie off for life.

I say let them jump in at the deep end and join active discussions on real topics. they'll soon find out how friendly and welcoming the board is.

This site did have a good index for looking up that sort of stuff, it's just taking a while to reappear after the re-build.

You should find everything you need here though:

Games / Re: CIVILISATION REVOLUTION for DS.

Civilization Revolution - I was delighted when I saw a poster for this as I'm an addict of Civ4 on the PC - gutted when I found out this was a console-only version of Civ and not a new expansion. Bah! Can't imagine how fiddly (or simplified to crapness) it must be on the DS

Quote from: "Wils"The less said about Leona Lewis singing Whole Lotta Love at the Olymics handover ceremony, the better.

I didn't see this, but I heard they 'cleaned up' the lyrics for a worldwide family audience. Say it ain't so!

What defines and 'active' thread? I tend to start from "view new posts", so a button to that would be nice (but then again, it's only 2 clicks to the index and onwards, guys - how lazy are we?)

Quote from: "Pete Wells"I find myself getting antsy at one offs or even multiparters that aren't going to have an effect on the big picture for Mega City One.

The trouble is that if you rattle through these world changing storylines too quickly, where do you go from there? We've seen Joe & the Meg evolve gradually over 30 years, and even then, the number of cataclysmic events has been pretty high, but compare it with the DC universe where an Absolutely Infinitely Ultimate Yes-this-time-it'sthe-Big-One Crisis happens every frikkin summer! How silly has that gotten?

I think Dredd's universe is much more grounded and has enormous potential longevity precisely because big upheavals are interspaced with the thousand and one smaller stories arising from the city.

Quote from: "Pete Wells"Two Dredd tales in the prog, both written by Wagner, that's the way forward!

...and I'd like a gold Ferrari too please! (If only we could clone Mr W... :) )

I'd also like to see more of the sort of stories like his holiness JayzusB.Christ suggests - psychological sci-fi vignettes if you will  - i think the mutie-law repeal opens the door for loads of these - expelled muties returning to a city that hates them, freaky muties falling in love with cits etc etc.

Also, it seems ages since the meg was swept by a good old fashioned ridiculous craze - you know what we want - fatties, uglies, Boing(TM), blobs, peek-a-boo trousers, brain-blooms...we want more from the city's mentally deficient demographic!

Sounds fair enough.

Agreed, it's unfair to add together all the votes for multiple entries. If artists are worried about their vote being split over several submissions, then simply submit the best!

You could even restrict the comp to one entry per person - if someone has several ideas and submits them over the month, they could then be made to choose one to be officially entered and considered for voting

I say let it lie!

I've often argued with mates about whether these reunions are a good or a bad thing. personally, I don't want to see Led Zep in a vast hangar in 2008, I want to see them in the seventies in a little theatre, just like I want to see the Who and the Stones in the sixties, not the gruesome yet fascinating exercise in geriatric shananigans we get nowadays.

In some ways, I'd rather see a really good authentic tribute band who can recreate that feel of the glory days, than seeing the 'real' people still trying to do it as old men. It's irrelevant whether they can "still rock", because they can never recapture what it was like when they were new and dangerous and thrilling. A true pioneer will move on - Robert Plant's fantastic work with Alison Kraus for example - He doesn't need to go backwards.

Most of my friends, who would have skinned their grannies for one of those O2 led zep tickets, disagreed with me!

Prog / Re: where's prog 1601?

Quote from: "garageman"I'd say it's a helmet facilty as Wagner doesn't pay heed to the continuity of Dredd scripts written by others, and doesn't incoporate them into his own; both stories may have been written simultaneously so he may not have read the story himself til it came out.
Whether or not Mr Wagner's read about the recent upgrade, haven't Dredd's bionics always been able to do this? I recall when he first got them he listed all the things they could do(including night vision) before concluding " don't know why I didn't have them done years ago".

Ah yes - I used to have a poor pixellated dredd thing on my old b/w nokia. You didn't miss much!
I changed it to the word AAAARGH which was much cooler!
