heh - it's a quote from Last Lug To Abbo Dabbo - I've never been able to forget it.  I don't think he sings any more verses.

Hey Robby:  I just checked out that scan with the doodle properly for the first time.  He's celebrating the 30th episode?  That's fantastic.

Have you counted the candles?

Ooh, you mean the one where they used giant grappling guns and such...aye, that was good.

I'll look it up later if nobody gets there before me.

:: "dogs, each with progressively larger eyes, each guarding progressively swankier treasure"

Someone told me that tale last week:  but they didn't give it a name.

Yeah - I never got into Moonrunners - I must go back and have another look, if for no other reason than to see more Massimo-flavoured goodness.

:: "I never really liked anything he did"

So, the point of posting on a thread with the title "MASSIMO BELARDINELLI: fave strips" was...?

Oh, right:  to indicate that you don't have any.  Fair enough.  I'll get back in my cave now and start typing up a letter to the local Gardening Superstore (on my giant stone typewriter) about how all their products are useless because I don't have a garden.

Thanks guys:  that's my all time favourite Ace Trucking Co. story - it's just beautifully barmy.

Ta for the info. on who's who as well - I never clocked onto any of that.  Wagner is "Sergeant Warner".

(2nd fave is, of course, The Great Mush Rush:  anyone got any scans of the Titan of Peem?  Am I pushing my luck?)

Hrmn.

I did spot the reference, but I didn't know where from.  He always was an ugly toothy bastich:  nothing's changed.

That's what's odd about Leatherjack:  on the one hand you've got this modern space opera with it's ant-planet, a despot and a cyber-assassin with amnesia, and on the other you've got Mary Whitehouse clones in literally shaped scissor-ships, Hartley bloody Hare and tons of known Earth book references.

Now it turns out the whole denoument may be played out on Earth.  Obviously a deliberate ploy on the part of the author, but a strange choice.  I find myself trying to ignore those bits and just get on with the corking sci-fi story that underpins the whole thing.

Umpty, as you can see from these http://www.2000adonline.com/?zone=covers&page=sketches&Comic=Megazine&choice=236" target="_blank">cover sketches, the final result bears little relation to the preliminary sketches, which were (I assume) what were commisioned by "Tharg".

Also, personally, if I put the cover about 6 feet away it looks just fine.  (It still looks like Aimee Nixon, but you can't see the deformed lip from that distance.)

(Note to Wake:  I tried but could find no way to link to those cover sketches other than through the Meg SPOILER thread where you first posted the link.  There is a link on the artists profile page that says it leads to "Sketches: 4", but it just leads to the single cover image.)
