I thought I'd start gamer nostalgia thread. I'm going to throw out some old, obscure titles I enjoyed back in the day. What games do you think have been overlooked?

In another thread I admitted to getting The Secret of Monkey IslandTM and it made me realize that the 'point and click adventure' has all but disappeared. Tablet devices could be their redemption. I loved all of Lucasarts old PaCs. The Dig, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle. There were some cracking Indiana Jones Adventures. You can play most of these by visiting here.

But the PaC I remember the most is Kingdom O' Magic. John Sessions did voice acting for it. It was a spoof of Tolkien Mythology and it was great fun.

And Descent. That game where you flew a wee spaceship 'round a mine and blew shit up. Brilliant. I'd love a crack at that again.
You may quote me on that.

Cannon Fodder....

Hours and hours of fun.
You ever notice that everyone who believes in creationism looks really unevolved? Eyes real close together, big furry hands and feet. "I believe God created me in one day." Yeah, looks like he rushed it.

Playing the later Lucasfilm adventures on the Amiga 500 was a labour of love, what with the 12 disks spread out in front of you. Three disk changes and much drive grinding later just for him to say "I can't do that".

My history of games machines and faves by time invested/wasted:

Speccy 48K: Jet Set Willy
Speccy 128K: Operation Wolf (with light gun)
Amiga 500+: Pinball Dreams
SNES: Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
PC: Red Alert 2

Beachhead for the Spectrum. with some of the most irritating sound fx ever.
The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

I was late to the Speccy and thus had a metric fuckton of games to work through when I did come into possession of one, all thoroughly appreciated: Driller and Dark Side, Rex, Marsport, Colour of Magic, Colony, and the various Dizzy games.  128 kb(!) of magic, it were.

Shortly after that I graduated to a Megadrive, Streetfighter 2 and underage booze.  It seemed the right thing to do at the time.

You say you've got to go home
cos he's sitting on his own again this evening.
I know you're gonna let him bore your pants off again.
Oh God, it's half past eight,
you'll be late.
You say you've never been sure,
though it makes good sense for you to be together.
Still you bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes.
Oh, now it's getting late.
He's so straight.

Do you remember the first time?
I can't remember a worse time.
But you know that we've changed so much since then,
oh yeah,
we've grown.
Now I don't care what you're doing,
no I don't care if you screw him.
Just as long as you save a piece for me,
oh yeah

You say you've got to go home.
Well at least there's someone there that you can talk to.
And you never have to face up to the night on your own.
Jesus, it must be great to be straight.

Do you remember the first time?
I can't remember a worse time.
But you know that we've changed so much since then,
oh yeah,
we've grown.
Now I don't care what you're doing,
no I don't care if you screw him.
Just as long as you save a piece for me,
oh yeah
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Kickstart 2 was always a favourite - loved the track editor!

I miss the manicness of old games. Imagine something with the budget and technology behind it of Mass Effect 3 but your mission is to clean up after a party and avoid the giant purple scissors and rampaging toilet seats.

And bring back colour clash! :D

Satanist

If you have a smartphone then download "Marvin". It emulates a speccy and you can download games from "World of Spectrum". Cos the files are so small you can be up and running in minutes.

You can now relive the classics on the bus/toilet/etc.

Im currently playing Head over Heels and its still great. Should really be remade for xbox live/psn or 3DS.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

I've always found this kind of song deeply depressing/disturbing/plain wrong. Aside from wishing ill on someone else, the singer/writer should really be told, fuck off and find someone new and quit trying to ruin someone else's life. Seriously, I really, really hate the person that wrote this. What the fuck makes you worth so much more? Oh yeah, you're a pop(scum)star that wants every selfish childish thought to be heard (irony not intended). Seriously, who is it? Some Morrisey type wanker no doubt.

Bit of a digression I know so...

It's Jarvis Cocker, so you're not too far off there Mudcrab!  However, it's a pretty cool song (soft spot for Pulp generally, posey wankers), and surely we all know folk in these situations, even if it's not actually us (never us).

Plus some nice pants in the video.

It's a Pulp song by Jarvis Cocker.

I know what you mean about the sentiment of the song but i think the bit where he says:

'You say you've never been sure,
though it makes good sense for you to be together.'

Is basically saying that she acknowledges that she doesn't love the bloke she's with but is after the security he provides - so basically she duping the bloke.

To me the song is saying - 'I want casual sex and fun and I think you do too. If that's the case then have the balls to go through with it. Don't drag some innocent bloke who just wants a loving relationship into it just because you're scared of being alone'.

Anyway, did anyone ever play Brian Bloodaxe?

the 'artist' formerly known as Slips

Most of those I used to play a lot!  But additions
Spectrum 48- Pyramid /Lunar Jet Man/JetPac
ST - Dungeon Master

"They tried and failed, all of them?"
"Oh, no." she shook her head "They tried and died"
Mostly Sarcastic & flippant

Ironically, most people I went to school with probably remember their first time from around the same time I was bitterly engrossed in expertly executing Lemmings mouse clicks.

I missed out on so much gaming loveliness.

I had a speccy, and that was obviously aces, so that era of gaming I got covered. After that we managed to persuade Dad to invest in a Sega Megadrive (Jap import) so I know a fair bit about that, too. Occasionally played brother's N64, so obv Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are old friends.

But missed out on ST and Amiga totally, and dropped out of gaming due to other interests until the X-Box came out, so Dreamcast, Playstation, Nintendo, SNES, PS 2 are all missing.

In fact, I missed out on the entire second wave of Japanese gaming. Which is probably why I fucking hate Jap games.

That would be "Scuba Dive" by Durrell software.
