Help! / Invasion by Blasco
02 May, 2007, 11:58:42 PM
long time no post and all that, but...

i need help!!!

the first episode of invasion had a scene by jesus blasco that was cut out at the last minute [like pretty much everything else]. savage lets a volg escape, promising not to shoot him, then guns him down, saying "i lied".

pat mills chucked it into book one of savage as a flashback, but i'm sure blasco's version was published somewhere, in a book or a prog or something [but not thrillpower overload in the meg, i checked].

anyone got any ideas as to where this saw the light of day, if indeed it did?

kids rule would be a short book, and yes, there's a whole storyline that's not in violent comic.

'violent comic' used the IPC archive bromides for the repro. haven't seen chris' book but i can safely say that any scan won't match using the original print-ready art.

rufus has shed loads of the original b/w pages though, which may have helped with the grey versions of the colour pages, i think a repro from the b/w art could have worked if things had happened in a different way, as could the cover from ramon. i'll put up a copy of the sketch on the action site, but it's fair to say that, like mike mcmahon, his style has evolved since 1976.

credits...those pages are definitely eric bradbury, and i think i emailed chris about felix carrion, but whether he ever got that mail i don't know, i was having lots of mail problems at the time.

anyway, whatever the gripes, i applaud chris for his efforts with this one through thick and thin, and for seeing it through to the end. i'll wait on my copy from gosh! strips by mail.

now...about that johnny red book...

i've been skipping stories in the progs since colony earth in 1977 odd

scb was pooh. even though i usually like warren pleece normally, his art on this was well below par, and the story was cack.

what are the chances of an Alien race looking like a Horse, nevermind coming from Centaury

what are the chances of weapons crests, mutant bounty hunters, blue skinned genetic infantrymen, cloned quasi-fascist super cops or anyhting else in the progs?

agreed. dahl's description of the chocolate room was so vivid i remember it in detail some 25 years later. the awful gene wilder movie managed to get that bit right at least.

it looks very ...like the first one? I was expecting something new- I mean completly new!
Some of those scenes are exactly the same.

yes, after all, what are the chances of two scenes in two different movies looking the same, particularly when they are based on the same book?

there's loads of stuff i used to buy just for bolland covers, like animal man post grant morrison, the eagle dredds, wonder woman, robin III...

worth every penny. i even bought an extra copy of the killing joke when i ran into him in gosh! one afternoon. he was a regular customer, and i really wanted a signed one so i picked up an extra copy, took it over and he signed it with a meticulous autograph, carefully keeping it in the margins so as not to spoil the printed page. and he  remembered my band, which was nice.

have tons of bacchus if you want it...drop me a mail. i'll do you a list...reasonable offers considered. eyeball kid too.

loved luther, liked heart of empire almost as much. a third would be great. must get up into the loft as i dug them out recently for another read. tale of one bad rat was brilliant as well. bryan talbot is a gent, he was virtually giving away his original art at a convention a while ago.

quite liked purgatory and inferno from what i remember, but also thought they were pure gratuity.

what was crusade? can't remember it at all, but then i was skimming my progs in those days, often only reading dredd the once, and some stuff not at all.

Links / Re: Ethics of scanning
21 November, 2004, 05:13:04 AM
perhaps if the sites like mine which contain scanned comics called themselves e-libraries, then anybody could read the stuff that was on there, provided they had a e-library card....

just a thought...

General / Re: Top 5 sexiest lady judges ever...
26 November, 2004, 04:25:50 AM
the question should be top 5 sexiest female judges as drawn by whom?

bolland did sexy anderson...those boots for starters, but arthur ransom doesn't...

steve dillon managed to make mcgruder sexy in a dominatrix sort of way, as did the mighty carlos, until she came back from the cursed earth.

demarco works in carlos' version, but the current meg version by fraser irvine looks bugger all like her, cliff robinson's recent cover was a more true likeness, galen...what big thighs you have...

anyway, five in no order

hershey by bolland
anderson by bolland
demarco by ezquerra
mcgruder by dillon
dunno...karyn maybe? run out of good ones.
