Help! / Locating lost images
05 December, 2002, 01:25:43 AM
I asked this question already, but I think it got lost in the swampy recesses of the 'SoWhat do they look like?' thread:
Does anyone know how to locate the URL address of an image attached to someone else's message? Some of the images don't seem to be appearing for me today.
Cheers

General / I can't get no sleep
03 December, 2002, 09:19:33 PM
Now, I realise this is a bit late and I'm sure I've missed another thread discussing the same thing, but I really, really enjoyed Gordon Rennie's Dredd story about him hitting the boozer on his time off. Just the kind of one-off I like, and one of Mr Rennie's best yet.
That is all.

General / Scojo's age query
28 November, 2002, 04:43:53 PM
Anyone know what age Scojo was (or is, I suppose)? I would have put him at about 15 to 17 mark. He couldn't have been much older than that. Could he?

General / Garth Ennis. Fair play to him.
28 November, 2002, 04:24:51 PM
Now, I'd be the first man to say that most of what Garth Ennis did for 2000ad was muck. I have done, loads of time.
But I have to say, fair bollix to him, because he'd be the second. Whilst Mark Millar bleats on about how his Robohunter was cool no matter what people think, Garth Ennis freely admits most of his 2000ad stuff wss tripe.
Then again, i suppose as one of the most successful comic writers around he can afford to. (Preacher started really well, but got a bit repetetive near the end; Hellblazer varied between great and terrible; and I haven't read much else of his stuff. Christ alone knows how he got the job in DC in the first place after 2000ad, but he has improved incredibly)>

General / Bix Barton was good.
28 November, 2002, 02:45:38 AM
Having just seen Bix Barton in another thread; can I just say that although the series were slated, I liked Bix Barton. So now.
I thought it made very good use of social satire; and was among the few genuinely funny comedy series in 2000ad (as were certain other Milligan comedy series). It was certainly funnier than most of Sinister Dexter's half-arsed throwaway quips. I remember a comics journal saying that Bix Barton was Milligan 'insulting our intelligence and his own', but me, I thought it was scripted like a (slightly) futuristic Blackadder.  The only dodgy thing was Jim McCarthy's unpleasant coloured artwork. It was fine how it started, in black and white.
The bit with Paul Daniels was my favourite bit.

Now: Attack me! I'm ready.

General / Something 2000ad has done and nothing else has?
27 November, 2002, 05:46:56 PM
There has been a lot of talk on this board about how 2000ad has become an adult comic. Fair enough; I say, I'm not about to start arguing (again) about whether it should or shouldn't.(Alright, so more swearing, nudity and ultraviolence may not always be considered more 'adult'; but it has to be said the stories aren't always aimed at kids any more, and they were when 2000ad started).
What I'm wondering is, has there been any other comic, magazine, TV series, series of films or similar that did what 2000ad did, ie. started out as a kids' thing and then matured with its audience? I know Batman and so on put out the odd graphic novel for adults; and I know that other DC / Marvel comics disappeared for years and suddenly returned as 'Mature Readers' jobs, but I really can't think of anything that changed gradually with its readership.

So, anyone watching the new Alan Partridge series? What do you think? Bear in mind that i din't see last Monday's one yet, but I videoed it, so don't tell me what happens.

General / Armitage's Brit Cit
25 November, 2002, 10:43:49 PM
Anyone remember Dave Stone's Brit Cit, as developed in Armitage and perfected in the novel Deathmasques (which wasn't too shabby at all, despite my fears at the time)? As far as I can see, it was a very different, and more original, place than John Wagner's version of the same city. Although I never read Brit-Cit babes; was it similar to the Armitage Brit Cit?

General / What happened to Mega-City 2?

Or at least the new Hondo-run city built on its site. Has it ever been mentioned since? The people deserve to know

General / Any dukos, Nay?
25 November, 2002, 06:51:41 AM
This is for my friend Nay Martin, who I very recently told I was called Jayzus B. Christ on this board.  He said he would check up on this site tomorrow, so this one's for you, Nay. He used to read my 2000ad's when we shared a flat. His favourites are 'Finny and Ray', as he insists they are called. His all-time hero, however, is Andr? Agassi, and he once appeared on television!!!!! Sorry, everyone. This has to be done, I'm afraid.

General / ABC Warriors Black Hole Query
13 November, 2002, 04:42:46 AM
Does it really say 'F-ck' on Joe's gun? I remember 'F.O.A.D.' written on said gun, but not the  full, uncensored demonic f-word from the seventh pit of hell in all its stark evil.

Suggestions / Cockin non-posting posts explained
13 November, 2002, 03:35:58 AM
Okay, I read this in another link and I'm just going to repeat what someone else said. I think it's right.
But just to save Wake explaining, and other people scouring the board for answers, this is why (I think) posts aren't posting:

Each message can only be answered ten times.
However, most people being more used to the old system, they are simply replying to the first message on the thread rather than a message further down the thread.
*So just make sure click on the circle beside 'Reply' on the message you want to reply to, rather than on the word reply.

Am I right, Wake?

General / Rogue query
12 November, 2002, 04:34:09 AM
I re-read a recent prog recently, where Rogue is attacked by Nort dust devils. He collapses and one of his hearts fails due to gas getting through his mask. He then tells the bio-chips that gas got through his mask, and the caption says that he is lying to them. What was he lying about? I'm not being a pedant, I genuinely think I have missed something here.

General / Grant the Magicman
21 October, 2002, 02:20:23 AM
Has anyone ever read the 'Pop Magic' section on Grant Morrison's webpage (www.grant-morrison.com)? What do you think? Truth or shite? I mean, the man is pretty successful. And we have covered a few of the prediction in his strips that sort of came true.
Grant Morrison: Jesus Christ or Ali Bongo? YOU decide.

General / Wake'll Fix It (hopefully)
20 October, 2002, 11:30:38 PM
Dear Wake, I have a problem. The hotmail account I originally used to register to 2000adonline has long since closed down, and as a result I do not know either my password or the log-in name I used, and as such can only log on from one computer (this one). I can't e-mail you either, again because of the expired account. Can you help?
Frustrated, Dublin

General / Dredd shouty mouth query
20 October, 2002, 10:05:51 AM
I have a vague memory of a Dredd story where there is a computer screen with a big shouting mouth on it taking over the justice dept. Any ideas what this story was called?

Also, anyone remember Karl Heinzpilchardsintomatosauceclayderman? Beats Michael Fish every time.

General / Emerald Isle
20 October, 2002, 01:39:34 AM
I just mentioned in another thread how Garth Ennis ruined the Ireland of Dredd's world with childish and lazy scripts. Don't get me wrong, I didn't find it offensive (in fact, I found his irreverent attitude to certain Irish sacred cows in 'Preacher' pretty daring and refreshing), but wheeling out stereotype after stereotype in a lazy attempt at humour, whilst paying little attention to creating a good story, is just trite and boring. It was like his decision to name East-Meg 2's supreme judge 'Traktorfaktori', and then trying to build serious storylines (eg. the Jonni Kiss thing) around him.
Anyway, what I would like to see is this: A good Dredd writer rescuing Murphyville and the Emerald Isle from the cliche-ridden quagmire that Garth Ennis dragged it into, with a good revisionist script and more realistic characterisation. (What about yourself, Mr Rennie, if you're reading this?)

Incidentally, this is not an Ennis bashing session, I like a lot of his stuff. Just not his work for 2000ad (except for Helter Skelter, which I stand alone in stating I enjoyed.)

General / Lots of questions on Hondo-City
20 October, 2002, 01:26:20 AM
Not having read much of Shimura, and having a current interest in Hondo-City (The future face of my own country, Ireland, has been forever muddied by Irishman Garth Ennis' juvenile scripts, so I've given up on it), I have some questions about its Justice Department.
1) Is the Hondo Justice Department the correct name for their Judge System?
2) Do they have a Psi Division, and if so, what are Psi Judges called (Psi-Judge Inspectors, maybe)?
3) What do they call their Chief Judge, and has the current one ever been identified?

General / Hear me, Almighty Matt
20 October, 2002, 01:16:45 AM
First, an apology: I asked you a few weeks back for the address of that moo-trix site. I haven't been able to visit this site in a while, but I know that you actually posted the address for me. I didn't get the chance to either thank you or even take down the address. Sorry about that.  I would appreciate it very much if you would post the address again; and this time a sincere thanks in advance for doing so.

Almighty Matt, hear me.
