Announcements / Re: 2000 AD - The Ultimate Collection

I don't find the Slaine too bad. If it was only in the one era/place for the next 7 volumes maybe it would get a bit boring, but at least there's variety. Definitely good enough that Mills deserves his 50p

He hasn't been in 2000AD for a while though. I'm not a massive fan of his recent stories, I thought the last two Savage books were the best from what I've read. But it's not the same without his voice in 2000AD.

Another possibility is that it's Matt Smith (Tharg or the former Doctor Who, either one). That would also make sense (if it's Tharg) with the Starlord story, and if this is important continuity.

I remember the Block Buddies one, because it seemed like a terrible story, but when they started fighting, it really brought me round.

Haven't got any theories on Kenneth, if I had to guess I'd say Gaiman. Abnett's maybe a good shout, if it was from a few months ago, when he had two strips in the prog (did it ever reach 3?)

Got an email saying the Hachette shop's back up.

I'll be honest, I didn't really understand what was going on with the previous Judge Anderson story (who's Karen? - is she from the old stories but redrawn, or a newer character, I've read all the Psi-Files volumes and some of the later stories were like that too). Great cover though.

And while it's a bit disappointing that next month's Megazine is reprinting The Candidate, a (admittedly a few years old now) story I've read from the progs, if they reprint the next one after that, (the story before this one) I'm ok with reading it again to try and make sense of it.

But I think the new story's looking ok at the moment, you only really need to know that
Karen's possessed, and it pretty much tells you. Looks like she didn't put up any resistance because she knew the monster would attack, unless there's more to it. I think up to that point we were supposed to expect Cassandra and Flowers were going to break her out
The Judge Dredd story looks interesting, I suppose it's too much to expect
Dredd to let the Samaritan off for saving his life, about the best outcome I'd expect is her being made to train as a psi-judge, which doesn't seem likely at her age.
Seeing as I haven't posted in the prog forum before, love Thistlebone, I think I convinced my non-prog-reading friend to get the book just from the Prog 2135 cover. The ten-page opening to establish a new story is a really great idea, really gave the story space. The only thing I found weird is how recent the Quilli sequel was, given the superficially similar subject matter.

I don't really have much to say about Absolom, I've only read Terminal Diagnosis book 1, I'm waiting for Caballistics from the Ultimate Collection.
Nice moment with the doppelgängers though
And Scarlet Traces is still strong, I find it hard to keep track of all the characters but it always makes sense in the end.

If there's not going to be an extension, then that's an incredibly unsatisfying way to end Sinister Dexter. I loved the book, I just want more.

I'm going for the first time, on the Friday

Never been to an event like this before, anything I should know?

43 & 44 finally here

Mine arrived today. I've given up expecting them now and it's just a pleasant surprise that something I paid for 4 weeks ago has arrived at all.

Are you sure, my copies arrived on Saturday, but I still haven't been charged. The Hachette website lies, it's always at least 2 weeks. (Or did you order them separately to catch up?)

I'm going to an event this month and Simon Bisley's going to be there. Would it be a bad idea

a) to get him to sign my UC copy of The Horned God
b) to give him the copy with the spine misprint, at least he could get some money out of it

(In the section he's in, autographs are free, but it says you might be charged if you bring something to sign)

I'm thinking I'm not going to do b), mainly because it means bringing two copies of a book I've already read, and possibly giving away the wrong one

I don't think this would have much of an impact on sales of the back catalogue (from what I've heard here, the back half of Slaine will probably be getting a lot more sales from the ultimate collection than it ever would've on its own).

If you're really interested in a series, you're not going to wait nearly 3 years for the complete set. Even Nemesis took a year and a half, so did Shakara for just two books, and Kingdom isn't going to be complete unless there's an extension (and probably enough time to run the next book, if there is one).

And all the issues are still in print, at full price

I think it is unfair to only give the royalties based on the £1.99 price, when the creators didn't have any say in the price. But then would I have cared about reading another 12 books of Slaine if I hadn't read it? I didn't even subscribe for The Horned God, so probably not.

On the other hand, Mills still agreed to the deal, he must have known that it might not sell as well as they were telling him. And getting £9.99 royalties off 24 books will probably get him more money than 25 books selling less copies at full price. Hachette have enough partworks series that I'm prepared to believe them about the loss leader - did the Mega Collection do that?

It's Henry Flint and Robbie Morrison I feel sorry for, I hope they actually got paid for my free copy of Shakara: The Avenger.

Hi all. Is there a reason why the 2000ad ultimate collection books don't have the release order number on the back covers like the Judge Dredd mega collection books have? Just noticed this recently and wondered why?

Probably because the order within any series is fairly obvious (except for The Horned God and the revival Stront books), and they all have the stickers when you buy them.

I couldn't find anything on the mega collection books that showed a back cover with a number, though. But I only found one.

Or just have HG as 4 implicitly and number the next one 5.

Then you'd just have people asking where volume 4 is. Maybe they could've sent out "Volume 4" stickers for The Horned God.

I was updating the wikipedia page, and it already has 66 for Nikolai Dante 6, and 70 for Durham Red, so I asked if they'd been changed.
