Title: Now I Know My ABCs...
Post by: Funt Solo on 31 March, 2021, 05:43:21 AM
I've started my own A-Z of 2000 AD project and (of course) started with 'K', and Kingdom (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/Kingdom/kingdom.html).

It has to be off-forum because the chart and table have some groovy, interactive functionality that can't be replicated here.

Tech note: table hover components sort-of work as long-holds on touch-screen devices, but really this is designed for pointer-driven interfaces.

Wow Funt Solo that's going to become something pretty damned fantastic. A resource to sit shouler to shoulder with Barney - fantastic stuff and I look forward to watching it develop!

That's really cool and potentially really useful. If I may be a little autistic for a minute; could you give the episode count a different Y-axis on the right for clarity? Also, the table could be a little bigger and the headings should be consistent with the text (episodes=parts) and don't need to be abbreviated.
Hope you don't mind the whinge, great work

Ooh - thanks - these are good ideas.

The chart is from a free system (chart.js), so I'm not sure if I can (easily) add a second Y-axis on the right. However - what you can do is click on the key labels at the top of the chart to toggle the two data streams on or off, which is pretty cool. Not obvious, though - so maybe I should make that clearer.

Yes, to consistency w. episodes/parts. I'll fix that.

I hear you on abbreviations and table size. Some of these tables will have additional columns (for writer and artist, where they are different by episode) so some will be wider. Still, you're not wrong. I'm swithering.

I've been doing some format tests on my A to Z (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ.html), so you can now peruse Kingdom, Kingmaker, Kings of Cult, Kola Kommandos and Lawless.

My partial automation process seems quite fluid now, but it'll still take a while to populate.

Thing that surprised me: I couldn't find anywhere on the 2000AD shop that just had (for example) a list of all the Kingdom graphic novels on one page. Am I missing something or is the shop just a bit crap not easy to find stuff on?

No, you are quite right, the shop is a bit crap. Even the search window has disappeared. The best you can hope for is to select one graphic novel and scroll down to see the others that are available in the series. I find it quite irritating trying to discover what has been collected and which episodes they contain.

Excellent work BTW.

Thanks, Colin. It was a lot of work, but the data's already sitting in a spreadsheet (all the Interrogations, Flix, Mix, Ro-Jaw's Reviews, Bile Ducts et al) now, and just needs processed into my web-page format using a cunning system I've devised. So cunning, you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Reckon I could get it down to about ten minutes per page (what with finding a graphic to put on there, and coming up with a one-line descriptor), so the entire project should only take ... oh dear ... one hundred hours (ah ... not counting Dredd, because that's complicated).

Tremble in awe as I include Aquila, Cursed Earth Koburn and Quilli in my A-Z (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ.html).

I'll do them in a priority order if you make requests - so far it's been relatively random .

And somewhere deep within the depths of City Hall, Barney's video-smile unaccountably falters. His technician, Murphy, casts an eye over the feed levels , and frowns - if he didn't know better (and being this long in the tooth, he should) it's almost as if Barney was... shuddering.
'What's up, pal?'
'I... I don' t know, Murph. I suddenly felt a bit... peculiar.'
'Ah.' Murph starts to slide his hand toward the Justice Department emergency call button. He counts Barney a friend, but he also knows which side his synthi-bread is buttered. 'Like Christmas at Des O' Connor block peculiar?'
Barney's down-home voice simulates an uneasy laugh. 'You a historian now, Murph? That's ancient history! No, I just felt... Well, like my time is over, sort of thing.'
Murph relaxes a little. Just a touch of computer senility. Honestly, he's been expecting this for a while now. 'I shouldn't worry too much, buddy. None of us goes on forever, after all - but there' s plenty of life in the old dog yet.'
None of us goes on forever... Barney ought to know that better than most. Murph replaced Brian, who caught the Chaos bug; he' d replaced Audie, who's now on artificial life-support in a Sector 12 care home; Audie replaced Wilson, after that terrible futsie business... The list is long. But still, Barney somehow never imagined it happening to him. To confront your own mortality is a terrible thing, especially when you're essentially an immortal being. 'Murph...' he asks, quietly. 'What' s the A-Z of 2000AD?'

Oh, man - I owe so much to Barney just in terms of daily usage and harvesting a bunch of data - plus, Barney can do things my A to Z is just not capable of - like searching by creator, or looking up individual issues, or checking out the covers.  Whole other thread about that - but anyone in the game of replacing Barney has a mountain to climb.

As for Sinister Dexter - whoo, boy! There's just no way to fit that all on one page - you'd have to divide it up somehow. Tis funtin' inconceivable, I tell ye! I'm so overwhelmed I'm getting a frisson impossible (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/SinisterDexter/sinisterDexter1997.html).

Some questions are easy to answer - like, clearly, Terror Tube, Killer Watt & Ego Trip all belong under the "Nemesis" banner. But what of the year 2000 series Deadlock - it's set on Termight, but Nemesis just ain't in it (unless Deadlock is Nemesis).

Funt Solo the turn around to include Sinister Dexter does you proud. I just checked this big leather bound, gold embossed tome listing top ten of all things. And under examples of human kind there you are.

A little further on, under 'Problems you don't even wanna start unwrapping' is where to draw the line between ABC Warriors and Nemesis. Though a helpful appendix suggests leaving Deadlock under ABCs given no Nemesis and only an established common setting to unit them really... and Purity...
Title: Re: Now I Know My ABCs...
Post by: Funt Solo on 16 April, 2021, 06:17:37 PM
Yesterday it was all "does Dexter get it's own banner separate from Sinister Dexter?" and now it's the Deadlock series, that neatly straddles two banners. It's not really ABCs and it's not really Nemesis - I think I'll need to give Deadlock his own banner and then link it across (like I did with Downlode Tales and Malone).

My most recent head-scratcher is what to do with Mek-Quake's appearance in Book III. At that point, Mek-Quake wasn't part of the ABCs, so strictly I should link it back to Ro-Busters. But he does become a focal point of the ABCs later, so maybe...

It's such a cameo-role, though, rather than a strong narrative link. Maybe just a note...

That Pat Mills - he doesn't make indexing stuff easy.

It is your and you must find your own way but I'd defo suggest any solo ABC is an off shot of ABC even if its not ABC? Mind the Mek-Quake is a very interesting dilemma - just link it to Tharg and the Nerve Centre and be done with it!

Deadlock is very thematically tied to the last book of Nemesis though.  Tell you what - I'd sooner include Deadlock in an incomplete Nemesis colleciton than I would Nemesis and Deadlock (The Enigmass Variations).

Alec only appeared in two stories - one where the writer died and one where they were brought back from the dead.  All those posters, however...

Funt Solo - just want to say I've used the A-Z for the first time in anger, not just admiration. I wanted to know how far ahead Sinister Dexter's first appearance in the Winter Special was compared to their Prog appearance and had forgotten it was almost a full year!

Yay - it's got a practical use!

I'm currently fiddling with narrowing some of the columns where the tables go too wide for a 1024 pixel layout. And thinking about doing an ABC highlights table.

---

I used the phrase "something something in anger" here in the US and got shocked responses - like "why were you angry?" and "it's probably not a good idea to be angry while you do a task". I don't often really, really miss Britain - but sometimes these US folk just don't understand our phrasing.

The c**ts.

I already have:

Does anyone recall them showing up in other stories?

Here's a list of story titles between Body Looters and To The Ends:

All Hell On The Dix-I Front
Milli-Way Sixty-Six
[Pray For War] or [Waldos]
The Assassination Run
Hats Off To Helm
The Marauders
Fort Neuro
Major Magnam
Genetic Infantryman Of Nu Earth
Bio-Wire
Milli-Com Memories
The Droidonators
Vid-Vultures
Eye Of The Traitor
First Of The Few
The 'Frisco Phog
From Hell To Eternity
Mega-Minefield
The Gasbah
Timeslip
Colonel Kovert
You Only Die Twice
Message From Milli-Com
Portrait Of A Rebel
[The War Of Words]
Just Routine
[Blind Terror] or Blinded
Death Valley
M For Murder

Oh, cool! Thanks for the positive feedback and I'm glad it's useful.

I've been doing quite a bit of behind the scenes prep. for it, and am excited about the big ones: Slaine (it's gonna be biblical), Rogue Torpor (sic) and Strontium Dog(s). And as for Dredd ... still turning a few dials and adjusting knobs ("Public indecency, creep! Three months!") but that'll be a bit of a doozy.

Also daydreaming about a "continuity" section to try and put things in context for the various 'verses: Millsverse, Dreddverse, Strontiverse, Rogueverse, Cabsverse etc.

Still willing to cheat the system and favor thrills for inclusion based on requests. Any takers?

It's the final episode of The Scorpion Dance. Volt finds her guilty of unjudicial conduct - for kissing Dredd - and demotes her to the ranks with a proviso to undergo compulsory re-education; Demarco rankles at the re-education as she thinks she's done nothing wrong, and hands in her badge.

Trying to collate appearances of The Kleggs.

So far, I've got:

The Day The Law Died (JD)
Night of the Bloodbeast (JD)
The Juve Mutated Kung Fu Kleggs (JD)
The Corps
The Kleggs (M201, their own one-off)
Meatmonger (JD)
Love Hurts (JD)
Saudade (JD)
Enceladus: New Life (JD)
Undercover Klegg (JD)

Plus Helter Skelter (alt. Grampus), Ace Trucking (generic foe) & solo appearances of Sensitive Klegg.

I expect I'm missing some..?

I just completed the Judge Dredd (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/JudgeDredd/1977.html) section, so it now runs from 1977-2021, and includes all prog, meg & specials content*.

I've tried to do crossover links with notable characters, who will have their own sections added in time - like McGruder and Otto Sump. These linkages are there in the Dredd data if you hover on the story title, it says (e.g.) "linked to Judge Hershey".

I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of Dredd and got half my data from my age-addled brain and the other half from Barney**. So I will have missed out some links - if you happen to spot any missing bits, please let me know and I can add them in.

*Except Heavy Metal Dredd and The Lost Cases, which will have their own sections. And it only goes so far as prog 2235 and meg 432, for the moment.

**The Barney character linkages dry up around prog 1933 and meg 335, so beyond those it's all my own research.

Thanks, Colin. In dreamland, I would have a separate image for each of the years, charting something of the artistic changes over time, but image capture and editing is one of the biggest time sinks on the project, so, for now, it's just going to be that one.

What I enjoy most about this project is the pure self indulgent nerdiness of it. Much like Buttonman's Beast, it is done for the author's own amusement rather than any algorithm manipulation or social media traction. The internet, and in turn the world, would be a much better place with more Funt Solos and less Mark Zuckerbots.

I notice under Judge Dredd you have either accidentally shifted every Meg by one month or you think each year ends with a January  ;)
Meg 201 is January 2003, Meg 214 is Jan 2004, M227 is Jan 2005, &c. etc.

Hail fellow pedant and well met!

I'm entirely willing to accept that I may be wrong about my year-placement on some publications (especially around the dec/jan barrier, naturally), but something made me do it that way - probably to do with cover dates not being publication dates and suchlike. (You probably already know that most monthly publications are cover dated for when they should be taken off the shelves.)

There's also that "looks like a Xmas issue, I think I'll just put it in December" motive. Could partly be that.

We should have a sub-forum of pedants to make a ruling on this.  :)

Just to follow up, you can see Meg 214 on Barney (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=megprofiles) - it has a cover date of 13th January, 2004, but the cover says "MONSTER Christmas ISSUE", and it comes with a 2004 calendar (which you'd want to supply just prior to 2004, one would hope).

It does get bundled with 2004 when you buy it off Rebellion, but their bundles don't always match the actual publication date.

In my publication spreadsheet, I have Meg 214 published alongside Festive Prog 2004, then Meg 215 alongside prog 1372 (the second prog of 2005).

Caveat: still willing to accept I'm wrong.

I think I get where you're coming from; the cover date has almost nothing to do with when it is available on the shelves. However, if you don't use that 'metric' to classify them, then what do you use? The in-shop-date is variable and isn't on the cover. So, if you just rank them by issue number there is no point in ranking them by year... and then it gets a bit confusing.
I think you're pretty much stuck with using what is actually printed on the cover otherwise only you will know what the date means and this isn't Through the Looking-Glass.

The ones I really have a problem with are the 'Christmas' Progs. They are all wrong! I don't know who dreamt up the alternate Prog numbers, but it was a bad idea. Progs 2000, 2001, 2002 etc all the way up to 2015 should be in the previous year. Prog 2000 is Christmas 1999. Sure, they are end of year double issues, but if somebody asks me where I was for Christmas 2000 I don't think they mean 1999! Otherwise, that way madness lies!  ;)

Let's not get started on the Winter Specials though. They appear to sport the correct date, but Winter is from December to March...  ::)
Title: Re: Now I Know My ABCs...

The available date (and thus publication year) of any given Prog or Meg is the cover date of the previous issue + 1. However, for the purposes of "best of year X" polls, the year end Prog should always be considered as part of the following (cover date) year as usually a bunch of new stories start in that issue.

Can't say I agree with that. Cataloguing should be based on what is consistently measurable: the cover date. Whether or not a new story starts in it doesn't alter the year of publication. Plenty of stories start and end throughout the year. I think I'll stick with how they are listed on here: https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/2000-ad (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/2000-ad)

Nah - Prog 2000 had a cover date of 28 September 2016...

On the general topic - the cover date on British comics traditionally isn't a publication date, or even a guide for people making databases when home computing became practical decades later - it's a guide to the newsagent on when to take the comic off the shelves and replace it with the next one.

Cataloguing should be based on what is consistently measurable: the cover date.

When I read that this morning I metaphorically spat my tea all over the screen. If only such a beast existed as the fabled consistently measurable cover date, I might use it. You pointed out yourself in your previous posts some of the things that don't stand up to that measure. Others have pointed out the truth that the date on the cover is not the publication date - like all good scientists, once we have that new information, it would behoove us to act on it, rather than doggedly stick to our original position.

Ultimately, my data is trying to provide some measure of reality to my hobby of trying to collate the correct order in which the stories were published. As to why that's important to me: it ties especially into crossover events like Every Empire Falls.

And we most certainly are through the looking glass. Take prog 2000. Or do I mean Prog 2000? There's the Prog 2000 published in 1999 (that is actually the one thousand, one hundred and seventy-fourth issue of 2000 AD), and then there's the prog 2000 published in 2016 (that's actually the 2016th issue of 2000 AD). Which means that the lowly prog 1984 is the real prog 2000!

Don't forget the Annuals - each one named for the upcoming year, and published, as far as I can tell, around August.

My data, for certain is not perfect, but it's attempting to get the publication order correct. Cover dates do not always help in this endeavor.

---

One final point - have you read Megazine 433 yet? You cannot answer "yes" using your preferred cataloging system, because look at the cover date - it says July 20th, 2021, which has not yet come to pass.

Sorry to bang on (not really), but I was scratching my head about a particularly brutal example and finally remembered it.

Check out Barney (caveat: I'm entirely not worthy when it comes to the wonder that is Barney) for Megazine 1.20 and Megazine 2.01.

Barney says:

Meg 1.20, COVER DATE: 1st May, 1992
Meg 2.01, COVER DATE: 2nd May, 1992

This is the switch over from the monthly volume #1 into the fortnightly volume #2 - and no, they weren't published a day apart. In all likelihood, the 2.01 cover date given in Barney is probably the real publication date, because the cover provides a range "May 2-15", which would have given the shop a clue for a system they were not used to dealing with.

Then the 1.20 cover date is one month out of the actual publication date, as is standard, so that was probably published on the 1st of April. So, they were in all probability published one month apart, not one day apart.

Yeah, I think I was being a little optimistic when I mentioned cover dates! However, it has only really become a problem since 2010 and I did mention the oddball Xmas progs with their own numbering. So I didn't really need to have that explained again.

Anyway, I did some digging and starting with the reboot in 2003, went through all of the issues to match cover date with the release date. 2003 to 2008 have 13 issues per year but things start to go out of synch with the cover date in 2009 when there were 14 issues. From that point onwards the "January" release is dated February. However, everything before that was released really close to the cover date so January really was January. So, I stand by my assertion that:
QuoteMeg 201 is January 2003, Meg 214 is Jan 2004, M227 is Jan 2005 etc.
at least up to 2009. I'm sure there are some bonkers exceptions from previous years but I didn't go any further back. Anyhoo, maybe you find this useful; some obvious errors in Rebellion's release dates I have marked red:

Just to follow up, you can see Meg 214 on Barney (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=megprofiles) - it has a cover date of 13th January, 2004, but the cover says "MONSTER Christmas ISSUE", and it comes with a 2004 calendar (which you'd want to supply just prior to 2004, one would hope).

Given that information - "MONSTER Christmas ISSUE", and the contents of the comic including the Christmas-themed Dredd tale "Turkey Shoot", and the fact that the cover date of a monthly publication is not the publication date, why do you remain convinced that it was published in January?

What am I missing? Is it just that Rebellion's web site has written "released 13th Jan 2004"? Because it looks like they just wrote that in because it's the cover date. Which is not the publication date, as has been mentioned a few times.

I don't think you're missing anything. The editor's letter also mentions having "had a lot of fun with the Meg in 2003. But trust me you ain't seen nothing yet." Kinda implying this is the start of a new year. I'm just going on the available data - of course it's bleedin' obvious there are Xmas episodes in these progs/megs - but there aren't any other available dates and Reb's own site lists 214 as the first issue for the year. If Rebellion think it's issue one of 2004, who am I to argue?

You're using one source, and I don't understand why you're ignoring the thing about the cover date being the "remove from the shelf" date for monthly publications. Why ignore that?

---

We could segue slightly here - the encyclopedia that they're currently serializing in the Meg floppies is (of course) a great resource. But it has mistakes in it. It's also published by Rebellion - which is just a collection of people who are just as fallible as anyone else.

---

Edit: not that any of this really matters. You're perfectly welcome to use your system for your data collation. The problems of us two squaxx don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

You're using one source, and I don't understand why you're ignoring the thing about the cover date being the "remove from the shelf" date for monthly publications. Why ignore that?
I'm not ignoring it and neither is it gospel, but it is just as variable as all the other data.

I am silly because I forgot that the evidence I needed is right here on the forum: Meg 214 review thread, from December 2003 (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=7335.0). Case closed, m'lud.

Ah - there he is! Thanks. So, he had hair then. Which means that's also Shenker in Engram.

He's been around a good long while.

And then some! Unlike his hair, of course - last seen in Necropolis, I think?

Surely only currently beaten by Dredd, Hershey and Anderson in terms of longest-appearing Judges still extant?

I thought it was something more radical like he'd been killed off then they just forgot about it. However, I think you're right and I was just blowing bubbles.

A-Z updates (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ.html)

Big news is that I'm 25% done on this project.

I also added a new Judge... (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/Judge/GiantJnr.html) section, to deal with those recurring characters that don't have their own series. I started it up with the two Giants, Logan and our friends Patsy & Wrexler.

++NEW SECTIONS++
- Ant Wars
- Captain Klep
- Counterfeit Girl
- Dan Dare
- Inaba
- [Judge...]
   - Giant, Jnr.
   - Giant, Snr.
   - Logan
   - Patsy & Wrexler
- Meltdown Man
- Missionary Man

I am super excited for the ability to scroll through individual characters to see how often/when they have appeared. I'm guessing Shenker took over from Omar, who had to sacrifice himself in that one yellow peril story that had great art that we try to forget about...

Aye, those two are definitely up for consideration.

Dogverse would obs be a wee SD badge, although I'm not sure how many strips that would encompass...let me check the list...

Durham Red
The Gronk
Middenface McNulty
Stix
Strontium Dog
Tales From the Doghouse
Strontium Dogs
Wulf Sternhammer
Young Middenface

Yeah - that seems icon-worthy.

---

With the Nemiverse, I was toying with the idea of doing a Millsverse icon, but it's so all-encompassing - where sometimes the narrative links are stretched. I'm not sure. The list *feels* like it would be vast. Let's see...

ABC Warriors
Blackblood
Deadlock
Flesh
Invasion!
Disaster 1990
Joe Pineapples
Nemesis and Deadlock
Nemesis the Warlock
Ro-Busters
Satanus
Savage

Not too bad, actually. For some reason, I though that list would be longer.

Just had a nosey on the Judges... section.
Super work indexing those secondary characters! This is shaping uo to be a proper rival to Barney as an all-purpose 2000AD resource.
However, was Judge Giant, Sr, not a reasonably key figure in 'The Day the Law Died'?
and I think that role was repirsed somewhat in Helter Skelter, or possibly one of the other times Judge Cal resurfaced.

So, my spreadsheet contains two types of character link.

If it says "Linked to...", that means there's a separate section set apart for the linked story or character.
If it says "Featuring...", that is just a mention - there's no separate section.

---

For The Day the Law Died, I currently have:

Linked to:
[Judge Cal]
The Kleggs
Judge Goodman
Judge Griffin

Featuring:
Judge-Tutor Pepper
Fergee

I'm going to add Judge Giant, Snr. to the "Linked" section.

---

For Helter Skelter, it's a bit complicated:

Linked to:
[Judge Cal]
Judge Hershey
[Rico Dredd]

Then I have a massive note:

A dimensional crossover tale.
Also featuring:
- The Geeks (The VC's)
- Call-Me-Kenneth (Robot Wars)
- Judge Giant, Snr.
- The Dark Judges
- An invader (Colony Earth)
- The Titan of Peem (Ace Trucking)
- Grampus, a Klegg (The Day the Law Died)
- Murd the Oppressor (The Judge Child)
- Captain Skank (Pirates of the Black Atlantic)
- Fink Angel
- War Marshal Kazan (The Apocalpyse War)
- Don Uggie Apelino (The Ape Gang)
- A Smiling Chuckwalla (Strontium Dog)
- Nort infantry (Rogue Trooper)
- Captain Constanta (Fiends of the Eastern Front)
- Old One Eye (Flesh)
- D.R. & Quinch

And radio transmissions from:
- The Ballad of Halo Jones
- The VC's
- M.A.C.H. 1
- Rogue Trooper
- Ace Trucking Co.

And in the episode #7 splash:
- Nemesis the Warlock
- The A.B.C. Warriors
- Rogue Trooper
- Robo-Hunter
- Ro-Jaws
- Slaine
- Halo Jones

So, do you think the other-dimensional Giant deserves to be shifted over to the Linked section?

I would say no - he's only doing the same job as the other cameos, not adding to the wider lore of Giant.
Massively appreciate the thoroughness of that extended Helter Skelter list!

- Tharg the Mighty
- Bill Savage
- Blackhawk
- Space Girls
- Ant Wars
- Shako

I had to think really hard about whether Disaster 1990 really deserves the Millsverse icon. On the one hand, there's Bill Savage (so, that's the link), but on the other hand there's nothing else Millsverse in that story at all.

I hadn't read Disaster 1990 all the way through before doing this project - I love that one of the enemies he comes up against is a crazy old coot who has gained control of a squadron of deadly attack swans through the use of his magic bird call! England's been flooded for about a week, but this guy has a ten-year beard, which means he's been stalking the fens for years, picking off unwary twitchers.

I'd say we're about due for a new story about people in future(ish) Britain coping with a sudden, country-wide disaster of some kind...
they definitely do seem to bring the weirdoes out of the woodwork.

Also, I vote 'no' to putting the Millsverse icon on Disaster 1990, at least until the point that some writer has a going at telling a 'flooded brtiain' story and Pat gets cross with them for doing it.

Hmm, a Smithverse icon is not a bad idea - Indigo Prime, Revere and Tyranny Rex are all now explicitly linked, and there's a strong case to be made for Firekind, too; but then why not an Edgiverse as well? Brass Sun, Kingmaker, Stickleback and (maybe) Leviathan are definitely connected; and Red Seas is connected to Ampney Crucis...

Tooth does love a shared universe.

35.03%* (although that stat is treating each entry as being of the same value - it takes longer to put a multi-pager like Sinister Dexter in place than, say, The Zaucer of Zilk).

There are still 28 [Judge...] entries to add. The really obvious omission so far feels to me like it's Strontium Dog, but Durham Red and Young Middenface have started that ball rolling. Anyway - I have another 400 things to add before it's "finished".

* which includes four things you can't see yet on the live version.

Quote from: AlexF on 14 July, 2021, 07:05:58 AMI'd say we're about due for a new story about people in future(ish) Britain coping with a sudden, country-wide disaster of some kind...
they definitely do seem to bring the weirdoes out of the woodwork.

Also, I vote 'no' to putting the Millsverse icon on Disaster 1990, at least until the point that some writer has a going at telling a 'flooded brtiain' story and Pat gets cross with them for doing it.

And to mix things up further - there's one or two books of Flesh which weren't written by Mills either...

Chronocide by Dabnett & Satanus: Unchained by Grennie. I like both of those - and they're still Millsverse, I reckon - just with guest writers. (Perhaps uninvited guests from a certain person's perspective, but ho-hum.)

Hey Funt Solo. This Project is amazing! Congratulations.
I found it because I was looking for some clarity on Judge Corey. I've been reading Volume 1 of the Judge Anderson Psi Files (and really enjoying re-acquainting myself with these early stories (so dark!)).
In that book Corey appears in Helios, then Leviathan's Farewell (which moved me as much as it did first time I read it all this years ago), but then (confusingly) in Triad (part 7).
I've been trying to work out the publication order, and whether it was just ordered incorrectly in the Psi Files collection. Or whether Alan Grant just forgot that he'd killed her off! Because Leviathan's Farewell is from a SF Special it's hard to reconstruct the order (well it is for me). I could dig out the progs and find the cover dates etc, but I'm not sure this idle pondering warrants it.
Does anyone remember thinking she'd magically come back from the dead when they first read these?
Aaanyway, she's got at least one appearance missing from your table, not that I'm criticising. As I say, I'm extremely impressed with the database!

Thanks for the info, Grobbendonk - it's much appreciated. My link-ups are a combination of Barney and my own research, so there are definitely going to be things I've missed.

As far as I can make it out, Leviathan's Farewell would have been published about 17 weeks prior to Corey's appearance in Triad. I suppose we can assume that Alan Grant wrote Triad first and Farewell second (given what occurs), but then things got muddied up in the editorial schedule, but who knows?

I'll adjust the A-Z with the new info. on my next maintenance rotation.

I've just re-read Anderson's second volume in the Mega Collection, and Leviathan's Farewell follows Triad in there, which clearly makes more sense.

And many kudos to Funt, the ABC is a wonderful thing.

Doing some housekeeping on the A-Z (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ.html). The THRILL RATING is a bit of an experiment, so I've only applied it to four things so far to test it out. It's a five-Tharg rating system from 1-Tharg (grexnix) to 5-Thargs (ghafflebette), and based on an entirely objective (*cough*), scientific, secret sauce recipe of Zarjazness which is kept in a lead-lined container, in a highly secure safe, guarded by vat-grown Gamorreans and located in the Castle of the Rock Gods atop an Icelandic glacier.

Stories section:
13 Thirteen - added THRILL RATING
The 86ers - added THRILL RATING
The Ballad of Halo Jones - added THRILL RATING

Dreddverse section:
   Anderson Psi Division
      - added The Protest (M3.14)
      - reduced timeline to core content
      - added THRILL RATING
   Judge Dredd
      - 2021 - updated
      - 2022 - updated

Features section:
   Interrogation - updated

Gonna be keeping a CLOSE eye on those thrill ratings there...
but I reckon if anyone;s earned the right to pass judgement on all these thrills it's you.

Can I put in a vote for Mean Team to receive MAXIMUM THRILL POINTS

Just read over the Mean Machine entry thanks to the link on the relevant vote - that's some amazingly useful resource right there! Are you, perhaps unwisely (for your mental health), intending to tackle this sort of thing for every Dredd-world character who recurrs in both Judge DDredd and other stories?

Actually, a lot of that is already done. See the dreddverse section, and the Judge... entry. I only did characters that recur (and not all of them) or spun out into their own series.

The image choice had me snorting inappropriately in my work place, you fiend.
A reread is overdue.

My work sometimes blocks the site - I've been trying to figure out what it might be. I probably do have some swear-words and saucy language, knowing me. Also, the Valkyries pic might be crossing some sort of automated pr0n line. Maybe I should change that one. Or maybe Toots Malloy. Cue: boarders immediately racking up hits on those two pages.

Conspiracy Corner: maybe the network is run by the Chinese government, and they don't like my review of China in Crisis (https://2kstages.github.io/stages/spinOffs/crisis4.html). Cue: overhead observation by "weather balloon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Chinese_balloon_incident)" and enforcement actions by a global stealth-police force (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_police_overseas_service_stations).

For all the different years of Judge Dredd (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/JudgeDredd/1977.html) I originally had a single pic (by Alex Ronald).

I thought it would be more fun to have a pic for each year - so I could get a glimpse of how Dredd's style has changed over time, and also to see different artistic interpretations of the character.

So - each year now has a different pic - have a look and see what you think. It's 37 different artists (& 8 colorists) over 48 years. And I mostly stuck with pics of Dredd, but a couple of times I couldn't resist a little diversion.

That'd be tricky to quantify, but McCrea's pretty loose, and Boo Cook kinda sorta oozes quirk. McCarthy really shook things up with Riders on the Storm, though - and Ewins' Haunting of Sector House 9 was a shock to the system.

I love knowing when I've missed stuff! Just the other day I noticed that I'd somehow pasted Belardinelli in as artist on a bunch of Dredd stories that were done by Ron Smith. Don't know what I was smoking that day.

For some reason, I popped Seeing Red onto this page by accident: The ABC Warriors | Order of Battle (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/ABCwarriors/orderOfBattle.html#baseMenu)

I'll fix it in the next edit - thanks!
