Classifieds / Wanted: Batman/Grendel
29 November, 2015, 09:15:33 PM
About to give Wagner's Grendel saga a read and the only missing volume from my collection is the DC/Dark Horse Batman vs. Grendel, featuring two different crossovers.

It's somewhat hard to come by, but if anyone has a copy and is willing to name a price i'll be a happy man.

Help! / Sluggish PC help
27 November, 2015, 12:58:42 PM
My PC has started to become extremely slow to respond to actions. Web page loading, Steam booting, game play and graphics lag. Any advice on how I can speed it up?

Books & Comics / Out of Print Classics
20 November, 2015, 11:04:55 AM
Title say's it all really, their are so many ace comics about that often not only do readers get spoiled for choice but distributers have to gamble which classics are in need of a rerelease.

I for one have always been frustrated with how American Flagg! has been treated by the likes of Image, Dynamite and Titan. It's a brilliant comic, from what some 12 issues i've read and in dire need of a proper omnibus release, not the slap dash part releases we've seen thus far.

Early Groo the Wanderer is also sparsely available, with the first dozen volumes being somewhat difficult to track down and a few going for crazy prices, and thats a shame as Groo is a cracking comic in much need of a better set of trades.

So yeah, this is basicly a thread for moaning. Not that we have enough of that as it is!

Film & TV / Superbob
05 November, 2015, 10:18:46 AM
Billed as "Britains first superhero franchise"*, Superbob is a comedy movie thats been doing the rounds at a few film festivals and a limited cinema run (it's nowhere in sight here in Bolton). It actually looks quite fun, but a lot of it might balance on how much Catherine Tate you can stomach. One for when it comes out on DVD I think.

But we all know thats a lie, eh. Zenith, anyone?

Arrow just keep the ball rolling. After Society they are now aiming to release the first three Hellraiser films in a boxed set in October. I'm down for this.

Film & TV / Concrete TV series from Universal
08 July, 2015, 03:58:26 PM
No news on a director yet, but a deal has been struck between Dark Horse and Universal for four TV series based off oc their comic book properties to be adapted for the silver screen. First of these is Paul Chadwicks Concrete. I've yet to read the rest of the series but i've adored the first few volumes and know it to be a very good series indeed, so hopefully it'll make for good TV.

Books & Comics / Usagi Yojimbo thread
30 May, 2015, 07:55:59 PM
Well, I've finally started to read Stan Sakai's master work, Usagi Yojimbo. Proper, that is, after the Senso mini series of last year. #145 was a tasty starting point and immensely enjoyable but I still want to get into the back catalogue as soon as humanly possible. Only thing is, their seem to be rather a lot of collected editions (28, I believe?) and a great many different editions. So, which is the best place to start? The single TBP's or the omnibus editions?

So now the 2000AD era Dan Dare comics are getting a reprint, and are deffinetly being bought by myself, however besides this yhe inly DD comics I own, are the Garth Ennis (admittedly superb run) on the series. So, now that I know the Titan run of collections from the original Eagle might be getting a reprint, is it worth me taking the plunge on the greater body of work on the character?

Film & TV / Soviet Hobbit - Now online
10 January, 2015, 08:26:50 PM
Yeah, it's about as infamous amongst Tolkien fans as the Star Wars Holiday Special is amongst Wars fans, but you know what, 55 minuets in and I can't see why. It's insanely charming,
sock puppet Smaug and all
.

Creative Common / General thread of artistic quearies
25 October, 2014, 08:51:07 PM
So I decided to do something about my horrible anatomy (say nothing of my art) and have signed up to attened some life drawing classes. However thats gonna involve sketching on large A3 blocks, something i'm not used to. Would a thicker grade pencil be recomended for clarity on a sketch this size as apposed to the 2B I use on A4 paper?

Games / Super Smash Bros 4 for WII U and 3DS
31 August, 2014, 05:11:14 PM
I love a good fighting game. Growing up I would play hand me down's of side scrolling games like Double Dragon and Contra, but it was in the basic 3D platformers that I cut my teeth. Street Fighter III and Teken III in particular where my favourites.

But ine stood above the rest, Smash Bros Melee, the crossover game bringing many of Nintendos most iconic characters together. It was ace. And in 2008, we got the third one Brawl which in my opinion is the single greatest fighting game of them all.

And in a few short months we'll be getting the fourth instalment in the series. I'm a bit excited me.

Off Topic / Doll...sorry. "Action Figures"
30 July, 2014, 04:08:11 PM
I've fallen into a trap and I can't get out. With so many Dredd action figures on the horizon I was seriously questioning my stance in not buying such products, as it's yet another collecting fad I couldn't afford. But looking around their are now so many I just clamour to own.

So I wondered, are the any collectors of the articulate little beings amongst us?

I was having a conversation with a fellow forumite over on tumblr the other day concerning Guido Crepax. I happen to own the only currently widely available edition of one of Crepax's Valentina books. In retrospect to this I looked at my European comic collection.

-Asterix and the Picts
-The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele-Blanc Sec (Fantagraphics omnibuses)
-The Arctic Marauder
-Valentina and The Magic Lantern

Thats it. And though quite a few titles have made it into English from the continent, Tintin and Emmanuelle included, many still remain obscure. I would like to see more European comics translated into English, such as Giussani's Diabolik.

Two classic british sci-fi series are finaly getting a home release from BFI and BBC.

Out of the Unknown is slightly worrying though, as most of the series is still missing to my knowledge.

Classifieds / Wanted: Cerebus phonebooks

Found a complete list of these two to three page serials here:
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/DWM_backup_comic_stories

I own one, Skywatch-7, reprinted in IDW's Doctor Who classics volume 5. I think this is the only one published in trade format. Some seem really good, including a few pencilled by Mike McMahon! Would love it if Panini collected these together...
