Creative Common / New comic - contributors wanted!
24 August, 2011, 07:36:50 PM
Talking with Locustsofdeath the other day, we thought it would be a good idea if we tried our hand at a new comic, trying to capture the flavour of the 70s Marvel comics like Tomb of Dracula and the 80s comic, Scream!

Now we can't do it all ourselves (well we could but we don't want to) so this is where you all come in.
Any writers out there care to contribute short one-off terror tales, or episodes of six to eight  pages (which would basically work as stand alone adventures) for a recurring character?
Any small press artists want to join in? Any budding Alfredo Alcala or Gene Colans out there? We need strip artists and pin-up artists.
And if there is anyone willing to create the title logo that would be fantastic too!

Email or PM me (or Locust) if any of this appeals and we'll let you have more details.

You could also let us know what you think of the idea - would you buy a copy? We want to know if everybody else is as keen on the idea as we are!!

Dunno if this little lot will be of interest to the folk on here, but I've put up a number of hardback books on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260839719562?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I'm a big fan of British comedy throughout the ages and have read a number of autobiographies over the years but just don't have space for them all now - from Eric Sykes to Rodney Bewes, from Ronnie Barker to Simon Pegg - there's all sorts here!

You can now download the whole story for only 99p!

As issues 1 and 5 are now completely sold out of PARAGON comic this is the only way you can get your hands on the full story, as told by The Emperor and Davey Candlish - this tale of goblins, messiahs and Vatican hitmen is not to be missed!

If you are old fashioned and prefer a paper comic to read, you can also buy that from lulu for only £1.99 for a US comic sized collection - and very snazzy it looks too :)

Books & Comics / new PARAGON comic
05 August, 2011, 07:23:31 AM

If you liked Des Skinn's WARRIOR then you owe it to yourself to try this A4 comic which would not look out of place in any shop. The magazine of wonderfully weird heroes is better than 90% of the stuff the big boys churn out. WARRIOR had the talents of Alan Moore, Steve Dillon and David Lloyd. We have the next generation of talent.

Click onto http://www.paragoncomic.blogspot.com for the paypal link, links to reviews and previews of the art (You can also buy the Jikan graphic novel from there)

PARAGON was shortlisted for an Eagle award as Best British B&W comic this year - come and see why!

Issue 7 is a great jumping on point for new readers and issue 8 is just out featuring;

a complete fifteen page adventure starring the time-travelling demon-hunting Japanese warrior Jikan, ending the current story arc written by The Legendary Shark and drawn by daveycandlish

the second episode of Icarus Dangerous by Van Dom and Stephen Prestwood - Icarus didn't plunge to his doom but was rescued and now finds himself trapped on an alien spaceship and just who is Meriope?

we have a new artist for G127 this issue as the action hots up in Rise of the Mekkosapiens, written by Locust of Death and drawn by the fantastic James Corcoran

and the long awaited finale to Undertow - the vatican hitman is determined to kill the goblin Messiah - but the underworld aren't finished yet... The last chapter of this weird and wonderful tale is by the regular team of The Emperor and daveycandlish

All wrapped up in a time warping Jikan cover by Chris Askham, it's the biggest issue yet at 36 pages!

All for only £3.50, available via paypal through the blogspot

You youngsters who like to read their comics on a tablet or PC can download a PDF copy for only 99p from http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/paragon-issue-8/10996406 and those outside of the UK can also order direct from there so you've no excuse not to read one of the best comics around!

(I'll put up some preview art for these strips over the weekend... )

Help! / Name The Film!
22 August, 2010, 07:28:52 AM
Can someone help me out here please?!!

About three years ago there was a foreign language film (Finnish? Swedish?) doing the rounds at the local independent cinemas, set in a snowy little town terrorised by vampires at night. The big problem for the inhabitants being that the hours of darkness lastest longer than the daylight

Anyone know what it was called, and if it is available on DVD?

Film & TV / Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Anybody else seen this? Bloody good film, if a little uncomfortable viewing at times, as you would expect from a European film focusing on murder and abuse. I somehow think the Hollywood remake currently being filmed won't be as hard hitting!

I haven't read the book it's based on, so I can't really compare it, but I certainly recommend the film. Go see
