hi all,
no more covers videos from me just yet, although I am working on something similar to my recent vids that will show all the star-scans etc. from the pages of 2000AD (back covers usually), from the first Futuregraph of MC-1 in Prog 3 thru to the fine A.B.C. Warriors set of star-scans from Liam Sharp in recent progs.
Meanwhile here's something else: I'll be converting and uploading clips from an old VHS tape of 2000AD related TV stuff recorded between 1989 - 1995. First up and on my channel now is an advert from May 1994 for Prog 889.
Poor quality I'm afraid, but I've not seen this anywhere else on youtube, so it's better than nothing...

P.S. If anyone else has, finds, uploads or knows about 2000AD TV appearances feel free to use this thread to tell us about it, no matter how obscure it may be. For example According to Prog 477's Nerve Centre (July 1986) 'Trevor' wore a Judge Death T-Shirt in the first episode of "Auf Wiedersehen pet", and in ep. 2 'Wayne' was reading a Prog.

Thanks for that - that was the advert that famously cost so much to make that they couldn't afford to actually buy air time to run it, so your copy could well be the only one in existence :D
Phil Oakley wore a Death T-shirt in this:

Why on earth is Dredd sat like that and why is he telling us to read a banned item?
The Irish bloke in the IT crowd wore a Savage T-shirt in the last series.
Some 2000 AD merchandise can be spotted in the backround of kick Ass (the comic store scenes, naturally).
There may be a Judge Dredd poster on display in an up-and-coming film about a space cop chap who wears a green ring.
There may also be some 2000 AD merchandise spotted in another future film release about aliens attacking a council estate...
I spied the tall Dredd McMahon in the comic shop in Kickass, and your name in the credits Robo-k33f ....

Cheers mate - I'll have to check that out.
That's all cool stuff. I'm guessing we all know the 'Spaced' reference where Simon Pegg was reminded by Nick Frost that he was there for him when Alpha died. Didn't spot the IT Crowd one and I watched 'em all. BTW Graham Linehan liked my covers vid :)
Appearances in sci-fi and comic related films are nice to see, but I love it when the comics just pop up in 'normal everyday life'. One snippet I have on my VHS is Best of 2000AD Monthly #64 being read on Coronation Street, 14/06/1991. How geeky is that? Never watched corrie, so HTF did I record that 20 years ago? I also have the clip of Revolvers being placed on 2000AD Monthly #45 in Nuns on the Run 1990.
I'll post here when I've uploaded those.
Judge Dredd was mentioned in a New Zealand soap called shortland street once.
Kind of ironic when you think about it.
thanks for posting that link - most of the TV ads are already on youtube, but over years of searching I've never managed to find that one - crap wasn't it?
Desperatley trying to remember what else was in the prog other than Armoured Gidieon.....Millers Robo hunter i think, then my brain shuts down!
There was quite a long piece about 2000AD on early 80's music show 'The Tube'. In the piece, Alan Davis was seen going up to the command centre, talking to (I believe ) the then 2000 art editor, Robin Smith about 'Harry Twenty on the High Rock'. There was more to it than that, but the time has erroded my memory.
Dredd stomped his way through an episode of something, possibly MOTORMOUTH. Tharg himself appeared on THE SATURDAY SHOW and was interviewed by Tommy Boyd, no less.
2000ad featured in the Emereald Isle on the Saturday morn kids show Anything Goes, It was an art comp, with the winners efforts appearing in a Sci Fi Special.(1986)
Crisis was also reviewed on a Irish teen show Jo Maxi.
The Anything Goes segment footage with Jim Fitzpatrick and Don Conroy was up on youtube at one stage -as was a Nerve-Centre visit- but is now gone. I might try and find the footage at 'work'.
I also remember a 2000AD appearance on some Saturday morning kids show (possibly TISWAS), I seem to remember a guy in a very impressive Dredd outfit milling around, & Brett Ewins showed up to present the pop group Madness with a piece of original Dredd art, I distinctly remember Suggs' response on seeing the art work.. an awestruck.."Zarjaz........."

Think I have that one: I've got a Motormouth clip from 16/11/1991 with a guy in a Dredd costume and Dermot Power. I'll be uploading it soon.
I can remember that Tube episode too Staz. Wasn't there something about the Editor giving an artist a picture of Harrison Ford from Blade Runner to use as a reference? I may be wrong as much alcohol has flowed under the bridge since then,
Sorry if somebody has already mentioned this.
I remember from the early 1990's(?) a schools programme for 'English' where a young boy was taken to see the creation/making of a 2000ad prog. He was accompanied by Skinny Melink(?) and was introduced to the REAL editor of 2000ad or was it a fresh faced David Bishop??. Sorry the details are a bit hazy but I am sure I videotaped it.
I also videotaped a 'This Morning' show from the early 1990's where they visited Stateside Comics in East Barnet and the opening shot was of a Judge Dredd cut out but again the rest is hazy.
Hope that is some interest/help? :D
Correction......I thought Skinny may be the name of comic shop owner but, and I am sure someone out there will be able to tell me this but that may of been the name of the comic shop he worked in/owned.
All I remember is that he was a big chap with black hair.
Yeah, that's ringing a bell somewhere. Wasn't he a guy and a shop?
And sure it was Skinny Molink - as in the slang

That's right, Alan Davis was given reference photo's of both Harrison Ford (for Harry 20)& Bob Hoskins ( for the main prison guard).
Also, there was some BBC documentary back in the mid 90's about the phenomenon of 'The Green Man' in British culture, as a part of that, there was an interview with Pat Mills, & a scene showing Bisley painting a page of Slaine.
Do you have the appearance on Splash. Suggs turned up on that too. I think there was a feature about it in one of the specials maybe 87

The actor who plays Paddy is a big 2000 AD fan.
I seem to remember Anthony reading a Meg in an episode of The Royale Family.
Primeval: Series One, episode 4 (that I just watched this morning) has a student flat decorated with mid 80s 2000ADs.
There was an educational programme sometime in the 1980s about a kid that had scripted a Future Shock. It had Kev Hopgood and Richard 'Burt' Burton in, and he really did go 'er, um' all the time.
There was also one of those ghastly 'yoof TV' things of the late eighties that had a report linking the Hungerford Massacre to roleplaying games utilising the silhouette of Rogue Trooper... annoyed me, that did.

Ah-ha! This is the programme I was referring to.
It showed the boy reading a copy of Star Lord (Large monster on front cover).
Must look to see if I still have it on tape. :D
Seems 2000AD has been popping up regularly in TV culture over the decades.
Great little snippets in this thread. Many I'd never heard of, some I knew about, others I've seen already and a few I managed to record when broadcast:

I don't know who the penciller & inker are, but the main guy doing all the talking is Dave Gibbons.
I thought that was Dave too, but then I swear the presenter calls him 'Steve'?
I want Torquemada on Loose women. :'(
I feel sorry for Dredd under the studio lights...
Good clip!
Just uploaded another clip:
Reportage from December 1989.
Less of a direct link to 2000AD but has Sean Phillips talking about Crisis.
Also Ed Pinsent (British small press writer/artist) and (for any Batman fans) Dave McKean on Arkham Asylum.
Gotta say I love Dave's stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caS5jsOnSVc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caS5jsOnSVc)
Dave McKean's assessment on why British comics sat between American and European modes of thinking are unique. Not entirely sure I agree with him, though its been a long time since 89 so his perspective if more of the time. Still interesting.

WARNING: contains nudity! some of the euro-art is erotic and explicit.
Judge Dredd features only in the last few minutes and I was wondering whether to edit and upload just the 2000AD revelant parts.
But the other art deserves to be seen, and when I picked up the latest 'Comic Heroes' today and found a 6 page feature on Manara the freaky coincidence clinched it.
So here's the whole half hour programme.

Don't think it's supposed to be Dan himself though (eyebrows are wrong), but if it is I'm very disappointed with him...
The final episode of 'Comics: The Ninth Art' had bits of 'Judge Death' and 'The Horned God'

The Stallone interviews are facinating (I vividly recall the film 95' one)it's quite depressing how disappointing the final film ended up, as Stallone clearly had a lot of enthusiasm and high expectation for the finished product.
A real missed opportunity, as he's often quoted as saying.
Got me all excited again for the new film though so thanks for posting.
Anytime Rocky opened his mouth about the film he missed the point and wrongness spewed. He constantly bullshitted. Looking back, it gets worse as the years go on.

Stallone's done a lot movies I've liked, so I'm going to go easy on him for the foul up that was Judge Dredd-but only tonight.
Those clips gave me a warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feeling as I can clearly remember my huge optimism for the film at the time.

One TV piece I remember that Im sure I have on VHS somewhere was on a daytime show which had an interview with an actor in a Judge Dredd costume talking about some westend stage production of Judge Dredd (Im certain this is a good 5 years before the movie- late 80's/early 90's). The piece also had an artist (dont remember who) drawing a few panels of Dredd). Anyone else remember this?
