Robbie Shakespeare, bassist and one half the of the world's greatest reggae rhythm section Sly & Robbie. They were the backbone of Black Uhuru and have played with just about everybody.

PJ nailed it - Chibnall does come up with some excellent ideas, he just needs someone with a firm hand to tell him to calm the fuck down, pick one and refine it, rather than spaffing multiple poorly-developed plot strands everywhere.

Thought the last episode was a confusing, disjointed and unsatisfying mess. At last by stashing that watch, Whittaker's final specials won't be just more division guff.

There is no need to retcon the plot - the idea of the doctor having past lives in service to some Gallifreyan black ops unit is valid and interesting - I just wish the execution wasn't so fucking awful.

"The man was a military enthusiast who found the shell while clearing out, but somehow "tripped" and fell onto the 57mm piece of army ordnance that landed him in hospital"

@Dandontdare Story and characters are the reason to watch, not the whatever anomaly of the week they are investigating. At least for me.

But when you already know the stories and characters backwards,  a weird disease or transporter accident is much more fun than endless episodes showing Worf bonding with his son, Bajoran religious politics or the Misery of the O'Briens.

Just watched S:3 of What We Do in the Shadows - still fun in parts, but a definite dip in quality. The best jokes are recycled from previous series. The last two episodes were good though as we see the "end" for one of the characters....

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

a copy of DC's Steel #1 from 1994 without it's cover that I found on the street outside my flat. Not a good comic, but I'm dying to know where it came from - which of my neighbours is likely to have vintage DC comics? I want to meet them!

Also, Dastardley & Muttley by Garth Ennis & Mauricet. Very odd little book - a rogue drone full of Unstabilium (sic) blows up a reactor in Unliklistan (sic again) and starts gradually turning people into cartoons

Tharg should sue him for IP theft. A billion should do it.

And they say it's from the 1995 Judge Dredd film, when it's clearly from Dredd 2012

Interesting side-note about the Mark Millar birthday Dredd not appearing in the Casefiles between volumes 18 & 19. I wasn't aware of that - anyone know if it was due to formatting to get the right length for each book, simple mistake or something more deliberate?

I strongly suspect that what we have here is a clever time-twisty Maxine Alderton story about angels in a village, with proper human characters and dialogue, that Chibnall has hammered into his Division plot. The former sections in the village were great, the rest ... not so much.

Not tried them yet - planning to drink one and keep one (until the next time it's midnight on Friday and I want just one more beer..).

The can definitely would not be recycled - was thinking of filling it with sand or plaster and keeping it on my shelf, but I didn't know the labels were peelable.

Hi Eamonn. Sorry I never managed to find you again after we passed crossing the road (though to be honest, spent most of the rest of that day in the 'spoons!)
