Off Topic / Free Louis Suarez
« on: 26 June, 2014, 10:36:14 PM »
As an objectively shocked observer, after having seen Chiellini 'sneekingly' leaping into Louis Suarez (innocently) open mouth, I am keen to share in the righteous indignation held by other squaxx.
If not, allusions to Fiends of the Eastern Front; Durham Red et al should be fun. Z

Off Topic / It's the World Cup: Sam Slade '82 v Big Dave '94
« on: 15 June, 2014, 12:33:52 AM »
It's the Summer; we've got an even numbered year; the Olympics was 2 years ago.....yes, it's that quadrennial celebration of WAG's, dodgy decisions and of course football.
So who wins the battle of the World Cup storylines in 2000ad, is it Super Sam Slade or Manchesters finest: Big Dave???

Hi guys and gals, I've been thinking of having a once monthly get together of local squax in order to discuss the previous months progs, Meg and other matters 2000AD.
We could all meet at a suitable central venue in Belfast pub/coffee shop dependant on choice.
Just putting it out there for suggestions? Z

Off Topic / Best Skiff ever.
« on: 12 May, 2014, 09:32:43 AM »
Well in the interests of further annoying all and sundry with best things ending in ff, I think the best Skiff (actually 2 of them) are the guard Skiffs in Return of the Jedi. Z  ;)

Music / Every Everything: Husker Du night 5 May, Voodoo, Belfast
« on: 26 April, 2014, 11:22:57 AM »
Just to let any Grant Hart/Husker Du fans know there is a screening of the above doc film on Harts life in th  Voodoo, Belfast followed by a few local bands doing some Du covers and some of their own stuff. Tickets £6 for film or £7 for film and gig at Cqaf.com. sounds pretty good. Z

Creative Common / Map of Mega City One.
« on: 22 February, 2014, 09:08:35 AM »
Hi all, further to comment by Mabs in the Meg 345 review and a talk with Mimikeke (one of our MC2 citizens), we're keen to produce a map showing greater detail in MC1 than is currently available at the moment.

I would ideally like to produce 3 timelines maps ( for 2090, 2120 and 2135).
This project is likely to take some time as I'm keen to take into account physical relief features in the Eastern USA and incorporate at least some of these into the map (a lot would be covered up in the 2030's rebuild  I know), I will also need to spend a lot of time going over progs to see what salient  features are mentioned for instance roadways etc.
Any suggestions from fellow squaxx would be most welcome. Z

Hi all, was going through the collection and much to my chagrin, Prog 8 missing. Can any squax help? Z  :-[

General / Any ideas on the number of Judges in Mega City One.
« on: 01 February, 2014, 04:18:47 PM »
Ok, I'm gonna start off a thread with the above, which I'm sure has been done to death on this site: but I'm new, indulge me. :-[
I'll start it off with my two bits worth.
In 2099 the pop was 800,000,000; in 2104 - 400,000,000 and bar various disasters such as Necropolis, Judgement Day etc the population stayed roughly the same until Day of Chaos when it dropped to 50,000,000.
Now the only real indications I have of Judge numbers are from around mid 80's to mid 90's when there were approx 300 and something Sectors with one Sector house per Sector. I think the Judge complement per Sector House was approx 300 giving a total of 90,000. Now I'll throw in stand alone groupings such as the Grand Hall of Justice, Academy, Tec, Psi, PSU, West Wall, Space corps etc and be generous and add 40 - 60,000, giving a total of say 150,000 before Day of Chaos. We were told after Day of Chaos that pop had dropped by 75 - 80% and that Judge numbers had dropped by 60%+. That in my estimation should leave approx 50,000 Judges and a corresponding amount of auxiliaries (not even counting recalled marines and other militarized groupings within Justice Department).
Now in say 2119 (off the top of my head) the proportion of Judges to cits would have been approx 1 - 2600.
In present day post Day of Chaos Mega City One the proportion should be 1 Judge to 1000+ cits.
Does my Math: a. Work out and b. if it's anywhere near the mark, what are the Judges whinging about (apart from the  staggering death toll amongst the population on their watch); surely from a totally clinical point of view (and if nothing else we are told Judges are selected and trained to be almost super humanly objective and emotionally and physically tough) the Judges job is much easier now as they have more resources to expend per citizen.

I am subject to correction in my calculations but again indulge me.

Welcome to the board / Threes and sevens to y'all!

Hello everyone, good to eventually join the premier forum of my favourite comic.
I read 2000ad for many years up until prog 959 when the 95 movie came out and it kinda drained the will out of me.
I went on spec to see Dredd in September 12 and was so impressed, I then bought prog 1806 a few weeks later and have been utterly hooked since.
I have spent the past year and some adding to the  4 - 500 old progs I kept in the attic and am proud to say I now have all 1863 progs and all bar 30 or so of the Megazines.
I hope to initially get to know the forum and its members and then contribute positively.
