General / JUNE ART COMP - REVERSALS OF FORTUNE
07 June, 2012, 03:40:50 PM
Cheers to the glorious Jon for his theme for this month's comp:

"Reversals of Fortune

What if Dredd was kicked out of the Academy? What if Dante joined the priesthod? What if Judge Death had become Judge Hugs?

Basically: What would it be like if our favourite character's lives had undergone a 180 and everything had gone wrong (or right if they're already a wrongdoer)?"

AHA! Very good theme.

Rules are thus:

- You can have as many entries as you want but bear in mind it'll split your vote so IT MAY NOT BE WORTH IT.
- No entries from anything you've done previously - they have to been drawing SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS
- There WILL BE PRIZES. ACTUAL PRIZES. For the first prize winner and for "Tharg's choice" so there's all to play for - !

YOU HAVE UNTIL THE 28th OF JUNE THEN WE SHALL ENACT THE VOTING DANCE

07 June, 2012, 01:29:34 PM
Do any boarders like steampunk with their cup of brown joy?

Because me, Dark Jimbo (THARG'S OFFICIAL FAVOURITE ARTIST) and Ghostpockets have been beavering away the last halfyear drawing a comic for chap hop phenomenon and Victoriana rapfellow Professor Elemental. It has a cover by Conan's Mike Hawthorne AND PLENTY OF LARKS.

You can buy it from his website http://www.professorelemental.com/fr_home.cfm

General / MAY ART COMP - THE VOTING THREAD
29 May, 2012, 10:20:55 AM
Alright chaps,

Not a great deal of entries again but the QUALITY WAS SHOCKINGLY GOOD. I think we can see the winner a mile off!

Voting will take place until midnight on Friday and YOU MUST choose ONE WINNER, ONE SECOND, ONE THIRD and ONE HONORABLE MENTION. None of that "everyone else HM" jazz this time around.

Creative Common / The big fat COLOURING thread
16 May, 2012, 09:10:28 AM
...that will hopefully be big and fat. I thought it was high time there was a dedicated thread to colouring and colourists and COLOURING ADVICE generally. Any opportunity to rub it into the face of Americans that it's spelt differently.

To kick us off here are three pages from THE AMAZING Massacre for Boys with lines from the astounding Steven Denton who's actually A RIDICULOUSLY RIDICULOUS colourist in his own right. No pressure!

#227
Since exhibitor's tables have already SOLD OUT I thought I might as well start the topic for it.

And also beg people to ask around and see if anyone's willing to split a table! Else it'll be me handing out The Psychedelic Journal LIKE SOME SORT OF AWESOME HOBO.

I'll definitely go either way - I fell in love with it last year - and Liz & Conor of Disconnected Press will be there, as well as all m'Bristol Comic Creator chummies - !

Help! / ONE PAGE OF FLATTING
14 May, 2012, 11:36:16 PM
Just one. It's barely complicated (it's quite complicated) - just I'm within groping distance of a deadline - AND I NEED HELP. You'll be duly credited but I can't pay you in anything but several tall pints of strong sweet cider.

Tomorrow or Wednesday preferably - PM or reply here!

Help! / Best Internet?
14 May, 2012, 02:54:58 PM
Hello chaps and chapettes.

I wouldn't trust any other group of people with this query (plus if I had a Facebook status about it I'd get sarky replies) "BEST PROVIDER: MY COCK" etc*

Me and the madam are moving into a new place and we've got to set up ALL THE INEVITABLE BALLS. I need some opinionated opinions. No download limit preferably less than twenty quid a month. Preferably not evil.

Thoughts?

*I've said that Roger so that you don't inevitably say it - !

COLIN HAS CHOSEN.

In his words

:"I say the Olympics but can be 2000ad sports (Aeroball etc.) any of the Mega City crazy sports, or any 2000ad characters competing in any sport, Olympic or otherwise. "

YOU HEARD THE MAN. It's sport season on the forum - you have until MONDAY THE 28TH* so on your marks....

get set...

eat a banana...

GO!

*this may be altered if the good droids that be decide to shut the forum down again for marketing reasons

[Emp edit: As announced here this contest will now have 2 prizes: the one selected by votes and "Tharg's Choice,"  so the stakes are raised but also the importance of voting is underlined. ]

General / APRIL ART COMP - THE RESULTS THREAD!
03 May, 2012, 09:02:23 PM
Right - here we go then - cheers to all that voted and let's hope we get some more entries next time 'round because we've got an awkward number of entrants versus winners. Candlish, you get the "DECENT CHAP TROPHY". Which isn't official in any way but it does look nice when lit correctly.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE PRIZE FOR MOST HONOURABLE MENTIONS GOES TO:
Dash Decent's glorious Slade in Robo-Residence picture!

THIRD PLACE goes to:
IAMTHESYSTEM's fantabulously similiar-to-Dredd idea, JUDGE FED!

Not sure what Wagner'd say to that one!

SECOND PLACE belongs nestled between the thighs of:
Bolt's RIDICULOUS Star Goals!

...I'd have eaten the cat to read that as a kid!

FIRST PLACE WILL FOREVER GRACE THE MANTLE OF:
Colin_YNWA's ABSURDLY BRILLIANT Ro-Jaws!!!

YOU WONDERFUL SODS! Roll on May!

...oh it is May. Well roll on the lawn then.

This includes myself - as I never got 'round to drawing my "bionic pachyderm" idea (that'll come out again one day I'm sure of it). Voting will take place until Tuesday Midnight - you ain't got long so F'TH'LUVVERGAWD VOTE.

REMEMBER - 1st, 2nd, 3rd and an HONORABLE MENTION.

Bolt-01 - Star Goals

Colin_YNWA - Ro-Jaws

Dash Decent - Slade Robohunters

Help! / FEMALE LAPTOP WOES
20 April, 2012, 07:17:06 PM
There's an 'normous problem with my girlfriend's laptop and she's in the final stages of her dissertation and it's rather freaking her out. I realise this is a bit of a long shot posting here for technical advice and no problem at all if you can't help but your imput would be greatly appreciated - !

In her words: "My computer will not turn on correctly. When started normally it gets stuck on the starting windows screen with the flag. it remains on this for 10 minutes or so and then reboots after the blue screen of death. When restarted this message appears- Windows error recovery: windows failed to start a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted gerring start up to start windows normally. When booted to safe mode the computer will not load past " windows system32 drivers avgid seh.sys." it then does the blue screen of death and then reboots. I am wary of using system repair as I have tried it before and I lost all my files."

Also feel free to just be blunt or sarcastic. In these troubling times all we have is our BALLS MINDS.

News / New British film poster versus Edmund Bagwell
20 April, 2012, 10:03:27 AM

Uh. That's not just close, that's the same image. So - did Edmund trace from a stock photo that the film-makers have used - or did the film-makers nick the poses...exactly?

Spotted by SFX here

General / Adam McLevey's Dredd
08 April, 2012, 08:48:32 PM
Adam McLevey is a graffiti artist living in Alski's town - and he's bloody spectacular. He's been coming out with this in the last couple of days and I thought the forum would want to see it...

Started like this with a '95 Hammerstein

Then he added a judge helmet - looks like it's based on the new Dredd film

And here's the full thing, still in-progress after a busy Easter Sunday working on it - !

Will keep people informed as to where it goes - ! Blimey :D

...so Kelvin Gosnell of IPC Magazines decides to ask freelance editor and writer Pat Mills to develop a new 'science fiction comic'. Mills gets in John Wagner and the two develop fascist future cops, violent future sports, hyper-powered secret agents, guerrilla cockneys, time-travelling cowboys and ... well Dan Dare was involved in some capacity.

Then suddenly they lost confidence in their line-up. It didn't make sense, it needed... something else. So they turned to YOU.

SPECIFICALLY YOU READING THIS NOW.

THAT'S IT...                    YOU.

It's 1976, time is ticking on, science fiction is getting increasingly more popular and if this comic doesn't hit the shelves right now it's in danger of looking ridiculous. So give the fledging comic the final thrill it needs, Mills and Wagner are on the other end of the bulky and probably beige telephone. Answer the call. Design the lost thrill of yesteryear TODAY.

*clarification*
- Make believe it's that particularly disco-flavoured past and invent a retro thrill from scratch in the mood of the old
- No entries from anything else, if this has been done before do something else
- If you want to get involved but you feel like you can't draw then either A) sweet talk an artist I've heard they like cheese B) Do a Buttonman and get thee to Paint(!)

YOU HAVE 'TIL FRIDAY THE 27th OF APRIL.

Chaps and chapettes,

The time of The Psychedelic Journal of Time Travel is nigh! In 2013 I'm ditching the TARDIS full of jelly beans, I'm leaving my Doctory gimmick behind and I'm starting anew. With a small press anthology that's going to be bigger, more time travelly and more odd than anything I've previously attempted. Times twenty and a half.

- - SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS - -

One to four pages - the only real rules are:

- No Doctor Who/liscensed properties of any kind - !
- It MUST involved time travel in some manner of form. Humorous, dark or outright madness all be good with me - !

Please mail everything related to:
psychedelic.submissions@gmail.com

Script submissions close July 1st!
