Ah, I remember the Wednesday night chat.
How can we resurrect such a thing...?
If you are happy to use the 2000AD Online chat room then I could make it so that the "Chat Room" link turns into "Wednesday Night Chat" or whatever between, say 6pm and midnight on Wednesdays.
Link: Or this IRC chat client here which could be used
Heh. They used to be a great laugh until he-who-shall-not-be-named drove everyone away.
I'm a bit loathe to suggest going the Chatnet route again, but how about just setting a time where we all just meet in the site's chatroom?
What do you reckon to...
ShedChat - In Orbit Every Wednesday, 10pm onwardsLink: Let's do the show right *here*, Earthlets!
I'll have some of them apples, methinks.
One thing I *would* suggest if we use the chatroom here is the removal of the chatlog function(#) and possibly slightly increasing the amount of posts shown at one time, if that's possible.
(#) Tbh, I think the only people who'd miss the log function would be the paranoid who use it to check to see if they've been talked about and people looking for gossip for their columns. No great loss, then. :)
I vote NOTE the chatroom - it's too cumbersome. IRC or some other AJAXy chat ... if anyone knows of one...
I like the log function and I'm neither of those groups; I just like to re-read an enjoyable chat now and then. Having said that, I can see why you'd want to be able to remove it (if you don't want what you've said to turn up in a column)
i would love to chat to some of the message board irregulars again, its was nice to do so b4 he who shall not be named f***** it up
How about if the log function was reduced to 1 day (or 1 week or something) so that it could be used to save a recent chat but couldn't be used to dredge the past.
I think reducing the log function to a day would be generally good anyway, but the more I think about it, the more that taking the Wednesday Chat to IRC (or summat) would probably be a better move than making it 'official' by being here. That way it would be self-governing and Rebellion wouldn't have the headache of feeling they have to intervene if Mongo turns up or if Eyebrows starts insulting everyone. ;)
If someone with more knowledge than me could set up an IRC channel somewhere, we could maybe have a trial run tomorrow. Although I used to use mIRC back in the day, a quick Googling throws up XChat as an apparently good IRC client these days.
I'd certainly look in (Hoo-ray!) if it were on here but can't usually be bothered to set up some other gubbins late in the day if that's required. You'd certainly get more passing trade on here but maybe that's not a good thing!
How about we all agree to buy a six-pack and sit down at a certain time? It'll be like a virtual pub. And anyone who wants to play the fruit machine can paypal me a pound and I'll arbitrarily decide whether you win two pounds or more.
Oh well, since it's wednesday and since no other decent / easy to use option has presented itself, it looks like it's ...

Any chance of a Happy Hour version, 10pm (11 over here) is past my bedtime.
Especially on a school night.
nudge!nudge hold!
10 pm? That's my bedtime, you bastards!
10 pm? That's my bedtime, you bastards!
And the problem with that for us is? ;)
Interesting and entertaining chat?
If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the chat room itself (or would like to offer to rewrite it), then please let me know.
Cheers,

10 pm? That's my bedtime, you bastards!
Kids...that'll do it to you!
I think we just need a dedicated IRC room. They take about a second to make as long as you've got mIRC. Granted non-computer savvy posters might have trouble getting connected.
Or
I know there have to be Java scripts for browser based IRC chat. Granted I have no idea how to implement such, but I know I've used them on other websites.
There is one on this site - but no-one seemed to use it.

Recent in-bed times at our house:
Last Night: 9.15pm
Sunday Night: 8.20pm
It just seems that if the sprog is asleep, and we're not at work (which is far more often than not the case), we find ourselves wondering why the hell we aren't asleep ourselves. We put on a video, or open a bottle of wine, and one glass and 10 minutes past the credits and it's: "Feck this, we could be sleeping or screwing, or better yet screwing and then sleeping. To bed!".
It's a natural reversal of the sorely missed lie-in, which may be the only thing I truly miss about pre-parent life.
There is one on this site - but no-one seemed to use it.
See? That's perfect. There's no reason for that not be be mobbed every Wednesday night.
If I could figure out when 10PM over there is over here EST.
If I could figure out when 10PM over there is over here EST.
About 5 or 6 in the evening, depending whether we're on GMT or BST over here.
That was fun. I'll definately be trying to check in every wednesday, though maybe not on time.
Since Torchwood has been back on our screens of a Wednesday there has been something of 'pre-Torchwood' chat starting in the early evening and going very quiet at 9pm.
Only not for me yesterday, as I had been up all night planning a lesson and ended up going to bed when I got home from work, to catch up with Torchwood on DVD when I woke up after it had finished.
Just want to appologise for logging into the chatroom last night, whilst watching the Torchwood repeat, and then falling asleep.
Very rude. Sorry.
If anyone's interested, download and install the free chat program from //http://www.paltalk.com/ and go to
Chat Rooms > Miscellaneous > Other > Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop
This chat room will remain open as long as I'm online and/or somebody's in the room. Look forward to meeting you there.
The chat room is open as of now until about midnight(ish).
I take it nobody's coming, then? What better way to spend a Friday night than chatting to fellow Toothers in an oline chatroom whilst the rest of the world hits the town in an alcohol fuelled orgy of sex and kebabs? Oh, hang on... I think I may have answered my own question, there.
Sorry Sharkie, I would have come if I'd known sooner.
Oh well, last night was a complete bust.
I'm going out to do gardening for Mother, but I'll leave my pc on while I'm out so the chat room will remain open in case anybody wants to mosey over and have a look. Eventually, it'd be nice if anyone who has their computer on all the time, or a majority of the time, could help to keep it open. That way, there'll always be a little slice of Toothy Goodness open to us in the chattosphere.
Of course, nobody may be interested. It may be the "download Paltalk" bit that's bothering people, but it's a reputable chat service and I've had no problems with it in the two or three years I've been using the free service (and no, I don't work for them).
Either way, I'd appreciate any feedback from the yay or nay camps just to see if I'm engaging in flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality (flogging a dead horse). Thanks.
Well I tried to log in last night but had problems with registering, poor internet connection I believe.
Got in late and did actually try but hadnt quite sussed out how to download the software yet.
Is it every Friday night ?
Or all the time ?
Because unless i go out locally or go to a rural pub i dont do town centres at night at weekends as there are too many binge drinking Dickheads.I dont like the atmosphere as i can sense the aggression in the air and i dont like it.
I am by the computer a lot as i am doing a lot of artwork when at home.
It can be open all the time, so long as there's at least one person in the room.
I can give other people Admin status so they can open it any time.
Or, we can agree on specific times.
In the meantime, I'll post up here when it's open.
Of course, the more people who use the room, the easier it'll be to manage. Like most things, it's getting the ball rolling that's the hardest bit.
The room is open now and I'll try to keep it so all night, but I won't be around while the Challenge Cup's on telly.
Right then, I'll give this one last try...
How about Wednesday nights? I'll open the room about 6pm and see what happens.
I'd prolly start a bit later, round about 9.
The download is not Mac compatiable unfortunately and i have been informed that i need an external application to enable the download.
Not sure i like the sound of that.Havent got a clue what to do next.
The fact i have shown interest probably means that the chatroom will remain empty anyway so its probably a good thing i cant enter it.
Ok, we're open.
Thanks to everyone who dropped in tonight. Hopefully, we can make this a regular thing.
I hope so too. Just drop the nod prior to the chat room opening and I'll do what I can to be there.
Cheers!

The chatroom is open... ;D
Sorry! I was watching Ugly Betty again after a very long day of wallpaper stripping, a shower, a spaghetti dinner, a sea breeze, a Caribbean breeze and a glass of red wine, so I wasn't feeling very conversational. Maybe next time.
No probs, Ush.
At the risk of sounding all whiney, I wish more of you lovely people would drop by. Recently, it's mainly just been me and Roger Godpleton and Bouwel hanging around, talking Twoothy and waiting for someone else to turn up. Quite disheartening, if I'm honest.
The criticism has been leveled that this isn't irc, but so what? The chatroom's easy to install and use, there is the facility for voice chat and private messages and even a goodly collection of smileys. Not to mention the good company of other Thargophiles.
Maybe if we could get a few droids to turn up, more Twoothy fans might also drop in for a chinwag and a great time could be had by all. Any droids out there fancy dropping by next Wednesday?
Thanks to everyone who has turned up. I'm going to keep on opening the room for as long as possible, or until it dies of apathy, and I ask you to come and at least try it.
Also, I'd like people to let me know whether I'm flogging a dead horse with this or if I should soldier on regardless. Any suggestions?
I quite enjoyed my quick visit last night (had to depart as The Unit was on at 22:00) and yes the chatroom was very easy to install, even for me!
I shall try and remember the date, Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday.......

I feel like a rotter now... :)

Ive looked for it a few times now and its saying its not there????

At the moment, yes, it's only open on Wednesdays. If I can get a few more admins to sign up then we'll be able to have the room open as often as possible - it will stay open only so long as there's at least one person in there. So, if anyone has a computer that's online all or most of the time, that'd mean the room can be open all the time. However, there may be too few people at the moment to make this a useful option. I'll try to open the room up whenever I'm online, but I may not be at my keyboard to chat - if that makes sense...
Oh, and Satchmo, don't feel like a rotter! I think I came across as a bit accusatory and whiney - which wasn't my intention at all. I'm just trying to get this thing off the ground and was seeing if there's enough call for it, is all. ;D
Thanks again to everyone who's expressed an interest and I think it'd be nice for us to have a room open 24/7 where we can hang out and talk Twoothy b*ll*cks...
*Edit* I'll try to open the room up every night so that people can wander along and have a look, but for now I'll say that only Wednesday night is guaranteed (weather and dodgy ISPs permitting, of course...)
I'm in there now. I'd better see some of you in tonight...
Chat-Bump!
I'm trying to get in!
Try harder, we're all waiting!
Do you know what the problem is? If you're downloading something, that might not be helping...
I'm clicking on 'enter room' but nothing's happening.
Not a bad couple of hours chatting there, but the TV progs are calling so I had to call it a night.
Lets hope we get more next week ;)
"Registrations are not allowed at this time"
Bah. Anyway, Ugly Betty's on! Maybe next Wednesday. This week, family visitors just gone, and I feel like I've missed a night's sleep.
I don't think it's your fault, RAC, the connection's been choppy all night. Technology, eh? Bah.
Thanks everyone for dropping by (or attempting to drop by). Maybe t'internet just doesn't like Squaxx...
No worries, I think I'm about next Wednesday too, so I'll give it a go then.
Starting in half an hour. If people don't come then I'm afraid that I cannot be held be responsible for my future actions...
Well, I've signed up to the site. I'll be popping in on and off all evening. Nothing but dinner, TV and a job application to do, so I'll be glued to the sofa all evening. See you in the chat.
I hope to be in around 20:00 due to the wife watching her murders on ITV ::)
Chat room is OPEN ;)
Thought I should explain my own reluctance to get involved in the chat (other than coquettish shyness), since I feel like a shit posting to the board when someone's gone to the trouble, and a room is open and seeking participants.
I only really use the forum when I'm stuck working in my office on my own, usually leaving the Active Topics section open in the background and hitting 'refresh' when I've ground to a bored-or-horrified halt with whatever shite it is I'm doing. It's a way of keeping me at my desk, a quasi-sociable alternative to fatally wandering off to do something pleasant in the real world. Most crucially I can spend exactly as much or as little time reading and posting as I want, exactly when I want. Logging on to a live chat means paying attention, staying in sync and basically shelving the work I'm doing.
It's not that I don't love you anymore. And it goes without saying that you're better off without my inane prattle anyway.
Inane prattle is what makes a chat room fun!
Seriously though I don't stay 100% focused on what's going on in the room when I do visit it. I pop my head in during the evening as I do other things around the house and find it quite easy to see what people are talking about.
Just pop in, say hello and see what happens?
Go on, go on, go on...
-Bouwel-
No pressure, guys. If you don't want to come, that's fine. Chat isn't everybody's cup of tea and I realise that.
It's supposed to be (and it is) fun. Just a bunch of like minds prattling on about nothing in particular and having a laugh. Everyone on this board has an open invitation to drop in any time, that's all. Nobody's expected to come and nobody's expected to feel bad if this kind of thing isn't for them.
Quite a few people came last night ( thanks, guys ;D ) and it was very enjoyable. We talked about Monopoly...
We did indeed... didn't we Ush?
We did indeed.
And we reached a concensus that Branston's baked beans are the best on the market, but none of us would want to buy them unless they're on special offer.
See?
Who says chatrooms are irrelevant?
I must agree the baked bean debate was fascinating and yes 4 tins of Branston Beans for a pound is the way to go ;)
Damn sorry I missed that ::), the laptop in MasionHuff is so slow there is little point in logging on never mind chatting, sob!
Don't forget today is Wednesday so pop into the chatroom tonight when things will be talked about.
There will be tea and biscuits, but bring your own just in case ;)
Yup. Tis open right now, although I may not be about for a while. Still, you don't need me to be there from the kick off...
See you soon as I get back from boring council stuff :-)
Woo-hoo! I'm chatting...
Talking a load of bollocks mostly....
Hi all. Thought I'd give the chat room thing a go, but there's no one there. :(
It's open now!

Special guest tonight is Colin MacNeil ;D
Just a quick note to say thanks to Shark for hosting the chat. I got punted at the end and Paltalk went a bit iffy on me.
Hope to speak again next week!
-Bouwel-
Fuppin' thing just punted me out. I'll reboot and see about getting back in
Yeah, that happened to me a couple of times as well. Nice one though Shark, good fun. We should get those pants ideas to green bonce.
Colin MacNeil told us how to make great toasted sandwiches.
Thanks all ;D
We're really picking up steam, now, and I'd like to extend a big Thank You to all who come to gather 'round our virtual camp fire.
Mucho kudos also to Colin MacNeil for dropping by. It takes some guts for a creator to put himself in the middle of a bunch of adoring fans and so, to encourage more people to come we made a rule that anyone pestering creators will be warned to stop it and then, if they continue, the offender will be bounced. This may sound harsh, but I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. The Yap Shop is just that and not a place to extract inside info or make pitches or pester people. If any creator wants to talk about their work or field questions then that's fine and there will be a willing audience, but if they don't then we must all respect that. Fair enough?
I'm sure this rule won't have to be enforced as everyone who uses the room seems pretty level-headed and decent.
I can't do much about PalTalk's nuances. All I can say is that I've been using this (FREE) service for a couple or three years now and occasionally it does go all PJ Maybe on me, but it works fine for the vast majority of the time. Downloading stuff in the background whilst using Paltalk doesn't seem to agree with it sometimes, but all in all I think it's a pretty good service for the price (which is FREE).
So, thanks again to everyone involved and I hope to see you all (and more) next week!
~Spread the Word~
Hi all. Wednesday was a right HOOT! Thanks for letting me take part. Can't wait till next week's random nonsense.
I hope to be on tonight at 20:00, we have guests due to the barbie I'm doing, but they are the wifes guests so I shall disappear until they realize that I'm no longer with them ;)
Hopefully catch you all up this eve. As long as I don't start hearing any Ghostly Godpleton soundbites again...
I didn't have a clue what was going on when he was doing that. Luckily there is a mute button ;)
I always have the sound and, more important, video turned off in these rooms.
-Bouwel-
Room's open, guys!
I can't tonight. My laptop's still broken. :'(
Ah, we'll keep your seat just in case.
Bump. I've just been in and just off to cut the grass. I hope when I come back more of you will have dipped your toes in.
I can't log in to the stupid thing. It's starting to get really irritating trying to get onto it- I've only succeeded once in all this time!
Sorry, DD, I don't know what to suggest beyond checking your firewall settings and suchlike.
Tried to make an appearance tonight, but after a seemingly endless series of downloads, they're 'not accepting any registrations from IE". Nice. I'll go back to my Aldi beer and Felicia Day you-tube clips, and try again later
Try using the stand-alone chat application. We're finding that the web-based client is buggy.
Hope this helps.
-Bouwel-
Cheers Bouwel, but I'm in MacLand and there doesn't seem to be any option but an in-browser applet, or a parallel boot into Windows, which may be a bit OTT. After many fruitless minutes spent discovering this, I also now wish ill fortune on PalTalk's web team.

What features of PalTalk are actually used?
For the non-Windows brigade the only thing I can think of is some sort of cross platform chat-client. ICQ is supposed to support PalTalk, but I'm not sure if that extends to room based chat. Failing that some chatrooms allow IRC clients access.
Hope this helps a bit.
-Bouwel-
(p.s. Thanks again all for the great chat last night and to Shark for hosating.)
What did we learn last night:-
1 - get your wife's friends round,
2 - give them lots of Pimms,
3 - get the Wii Fit out for them,
4 - tell them the jogging game is good fun,
5 - try and watch the ladies jogging.
Welcome to my world ;D
Still waiting for the pictures though... ;)

I am waiting for Paltalk to make their chatroom service compatiable for Mac users.
I will still be waiting at Xmas time and beyond.........
:(
Hey Peter, can you access the chat through the website without downloading the chat client?
Dunno about Pete, but I tried again through the in-browser applet, but they're still not accepting registrations.
Sorry, couldn't make it. Been away for a few days and my laptop is still bollixed.
I got as far as downlading the Applet [Paltalk Express] and the relevant flash download and got to the point of registering except every password that i chose to use was somehow invalid even though i have absolutely no idea what a valid password is.I just assumed that a password would contain letters of the alphabet but evidently not.
Since they are not inviting registrations then there wasnt much point registering but that might just be IE which i dont use because its Bill Gates Shite .No idea really but i wasnt prepared to sit here endlessly submitting passwords only to have them rejected because they were invalid.
Unable to complete registration.
Damn. That's so annoying. I'd really like you to be able to get in here. I'll look into it for next week.
Having had a quick glance it looks as if PalTalk will accept registration, but only if you download PalTalk Scene (The Yahoo/Messenger-a-like chat client application). As there's still no Mac version (which is odd) I can see that the web-browser is the only way to go for Mac users at the moment without fiddling around with emulators. I'll have a dig around andf see if I can come up with something.
We'll get ye' on th' chat yet, Peter!
-Bouwel-
(Edited to add: The servers are down as of this post for hardware upgrade)
I can't remember what we talked about last night :-\
Is there any reason not to just use IRC for these chats?
I guess there is no reason not to use IRC. The only reason I chose Paltalk was entirely down to the fact that I've been using it for years with very few problems. Also, I know nothing about IRC, so if anybody wants to investigate that possibility and the regulars to the Yap Shop don't mind, I have no problem with transferring to another service.
What does everyone think? Now we've got this thing up and running, should we look for a better service or are we happy where we are?
I use Irc a lot and it has better cross-platform support. Some of the clients can be twitchy to set-up if you're not used to it, although it's fairly easy to talk people through the process. Anyone who can work out how to access the internet can work out how to access Irc.
The main problem with Irc is that we need a server to open the room on, and most servers are full of idiots. The main ones would be either Undernet or Efnet, although other smaller servers do exist (I frequent a few furry servers for commission reasons, for example).
The other option is that we run a server ourselves for the duration of the chat. I used to do this way back when, but it's not something I've done for ages. The plus point of this is that we would have total control over who comes and goes, something that you wont have on a public server. I'm also wondering if there's any chat-server 'front-end' that can be bolted onto the 2000AD site, as this seems to be the way that other sites I know are going.
Thoughts and comments?

Yeah, it's really not at all hard. Especially if we were to use an extant network, as a lot of clients have them programmed in.

It's fairly rare for idiots to randomly join a new channel, IME. OTOH, I normally hang out on Freenode, OFTC and the University of Warwick Computing Society's own IRC server, which probably have fewer idiots than your average IRC server (as they're all largely technical people). I could check with people at UWCS as to whether they would mind our server being used (it's publicly accessible, so we wouldn't need passwords or anything to access it, and it could definitely cope with the load).
Speaking of password protection, it is possible to password protect IRC rooms, if there was really a problem with idiots. Just post the password somewhere up here.

I like this idea. As the website runs on a CentOS machine, it'd be pretty easy to just install one and start and stop it each week (provided there are techies around to do so). Even better would be an IRC server dedicated full-time to Twoth/comics chat, but I can understand that requiring some planning.

Is there any reason you guys don't just use IRC, considering the plethora of chat clients, standalone and web?
Now that we've made a start, maybe it would be wise to move to IRC. Anybody know how to set that up?
Could it be part of this website, for instance? I don't understand IRC as I've never used it, but I've no problem trying to set that up if it's what people want.
I don't think IRC is something that really needs integrating with the website, we could just sticky the details on the front page and I'm sure people can work it out from there (or with a helpful hint or two).
The way I understand it is you find an IRC Server (http://www.mirc.com/servers.html), use an IRC client (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_Relay_Chat_clients) to connect to said server. Then you just use "/join #<roomname>" to create/join a channel, and once you've got enough people in one room you can apply for it to be a permenent fixture with its own resident bot.
Its been years since I used IRC, but it seems ideal.
OK, we've given it a go. We're using
Dalnet
the cvhannel is #rowdyyatesyapshop
Just to confirm that the IRC Dalnet thing works fine for OS-X, using Carousel freeware. Even for the over 30's. Thanks for that Bowel and TLS. Now off to bring herbal tea to the afflicted.
I may have a go next week. I think I'll be working until 9pm on Wednesdays very soon. I just don't want to install any downloaded software except on the busted laptop I haven't reinstalled Windows on yet.
I don't think I understand one word in five from those last few posts. This is why I have never dropped in. And I don't really understand the difference between "chatting" and everyone just replying in the same thread all together.
Forgive me, I'm old!
For all you non-savvy lazy types out there I've managed to hijack Mibbit.com's web IRC client.
Click here to join #rowdyyatesyapshop on irc.dal.net (http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.dal.net&channel=%23rowdyyatesyapshop)
Just type in your desired nickname and start wrecking up the place.
That works great VinceBot, nicly done. If everyone agrees on this being the chat room of choice, is it possible to link it to main site and not just here?
Well done Vince, works a treat. Now if you could just rustle us up some hot babes to chat with, you can get to your bed.
Now that's service!
Ta.

That implies some kind of officiality, and will to maintain. We don't really want the responsibility of supporting an IRC chat room or a client, but I don't mind posting the channels details as a sticky somewhere in one of these subforums?
Anyone have any recommendations for that?
If it's as easy as you say, I will gird my loins and give it a go next week then, but I'm off to my bed just now. 'night all!
QuoteAnyone have any recommendations for that?
Thanks for setting that up, it's much appreciated. As for the where's and why-for's about where to post the details I think Shark should decide as he's been the driving force behind getting this chat up and running.
-Bouwel-
If possible, I'd like to keep to Paltalk as it's the easiest way for people who don't know much about computers. (If IRC is the only way to go, then I will, of course, bow to the majority on this, but I'll need help to set it up.)
I've spoken with a support guy on Paltalk and he says that Mac computers will work through:
http://www.paltalk.com/express/ (http://www.paltalk.com/express/)
I'll keep the chatroom open all day in case anyone wants to test it.
You'll find the room under:
Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop
Thanks in advance for your help.
*edit* I also found this page, which may be of use to Mac users: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/265757/installing-paltalk-under-mac-enabling-isight-under-parallels (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/265757/installing-paltalk-under-mac-enabling-isight-under-parallels)
*edit edit* The support guy also tells me that a Mac client is in the works, which will be useful.

Paltalk Express
does work on my Mac, and PW's too, but it's never accepted our attempts at registration - keeps saying it is not currently accepting. Did yer man indicate whether that had changed?
I'll check now anyhow.
And thanks for all your work on this, TLS.
EDIT: Nope, same problem.
OK, give me a minute.
I may be able to create an account for you, which may work. Can you PM me an email address to enter during the registration process?
Oop, looks like you managed to get in for a second, there...
Hurrah, I'm in the secret clubhouse! Well done, TLS! Wait, what's that you say about initiations? No, no, not the muffin, get back, get back...
OK, it seems that we've cracked it.
Anybody with a Mac who can't register a Paltalk account, please PM me with your preferred nickname and a valid email address and I'll create an account for you. When I've created the account I'll PM you back with the account details and then you should be able to log in via:
http://www.paltalk.com/express/
and you'll find the room under:
Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop
Sorted!
Bump!
For tonight I think we should have both rooms open.
So if you can get into Paltalk go to
http://express.paltalk.com/index.html?gid=1054552008
But if you find this IRC-some then go here
http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.dal.net&channel=%23rowdyyatesyapshop
Aaaargh!
New job means I won't be included in the lively chat for the next 2 weeks. See you all on the 23rd. Hope you all have a good laugh tonight!
We'll miss you, CF. You take care out on them roads now, y'hear?
Who's there? I saw Godpleton earlier. I can only see Odd Bloke now. No-one's chatting.
Both rooms (IRC and Paltalk) now open for business!
Where is everybody?
Palscene just went *poof* for me...yay!
-Bouwel-
Cor first time I've chatted online and I really enjoyed it! Cheers lads!
Tried to get back in but it didnt want to happen. :(
and Im a bit shit with the PC.
Had a quick 40mins last night but work called. I'll be there next week for a late sesh. See you there Pete!
Wasn't doing much chatting there myself- but it was still good fun!
Glad you enjoyed it, guys, and thanks for the kind words.
I'm thinking of trying to get a droid in from time to time, (maybe for an hour or so, to field questions and generally bask in admiration) to raise the profile of the room and get more chatters in.
So, how about it? Any of you lovely writers/artists/letterers fancy lending us an hour or so of your precious time one Wednesday night?
Any other ideas for getting more folk in greatly appreciated, so get your thinking caps on :-)
Only thing I can think of is some sort of Wednesday night only competition?
And, indeed, fun was had last night!
-Bouwel-
*In best Noddy voice*
It's Wednesdaaaaayy!
I'll be on later and I might even mention the Hell Trek ;)
tried to find it on the links mentioned how can i find it tonight ??
Hi Moly,
Go to www.paltalk.com and create an account. Download the chat program (it's free) and then find us under:
Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizen's Yap Shop
oh no my pc kicked me out..nice to speak to you guys though
Your pc kicked you out? Firewall issues?
Come on everybody the room is open
Apparently I must install Java.
Again.
Or be repeatedly kicked out.
I got kicked out twice despite Java updates up the wazoo. I fear a secret moderator finds me too witty to tolerate. That or very, very annoying.
Perhaps there is some connection between this and the lack of Progs. Java postie moderator bastards!
Are you logging on through the website or have you downloaded the chat client (Windows only, at the moment)? The downloaded client is much more stable...
Don't forget everyone, it's Wednesday today.
Room is up and running.
-Bouwel-
Another excellent nights chat and with two creators on board. We also had a person from the US and converted him to all that is 2000ad.
Come on all get your arses on board and have a chat about anything and we mean anything.
Yep. Thanks for coming, everyone. Another hugely entertaining evening 8)
Oh! Who did I miss?
The Hero Killer himself Colin and the ever so Gracious PJ.
Open for business!
I shall be there after I have washed up all the pots and pans from this evenings meal :'(
...and this week, Shark is giving out freebies to the first people on!
-Bouwel-
(Note: Your freebie experience may differ)
Bump. :D
Here we go again... Admission and first drink free, after that there'll be dancing in the ballroom and a punch-up on the car park...
Join us now for our new product discussion 'ShitStix', we are going to see if Dragons Den will invest.
I seem to be having trouble getting in Sharky. Is there a new version of paltalk to download or something?
Hmm, not that I know of. I'm using v9.8, which is the latest
Ah, I think it's waiting for you to approve me as a room member Shark. I've made a request.
OK, you have been approved :)
Still no joy I'm afraid Sharky, everything looks fine, I'm listed as a group member, I'm logged in correctly but when I click on "enter room" I just get a black screen. Ah well, I'll try again next week.
Did you download the chat client or are you trying to chat through the website? Downloading the client is the best way to go as it's more stable and has more features.
I hope I get confident enough to come and join you all some time on a Weds eve. I feel a bit intimidated but I'm hoping familiarisation around the site on all of the extremo interesting topics will remedy that. If you could be gentle on me guys - at every point, I'd be grateful.
Looking forward to getting to known you all.
No need to be intimidated, Pablo. Any friend of Tharg's is a friend of ours and you're more than welcome to stop by.
Yes and don't worry about not knowing what to say, wait till you see what we talk about, as we chat about anything under the sun.
Pop along this Wednesday and enjoy yourself and who knows, one of Tharg's droids might be there having a laugh as well.
One word. Seven letters. It begins with B. It ends with E. We all had to go through it.
Yipee, we're all playing Hangman now.
Bicycle?
Bandage?
believe?
Bagpipe?
Bedsore?
I won't be in the room until later on as I have a council meeting to attend. Damned council, interfering with my Twoothy Time. Grr.
Anyway, I'll leave the room open so you'll still be able to get in and I should be joining you later on if the meeting finishes in good time.
Bondage?
I hope to pop in for just an hour tonight as I'm absolutely shagged.
Don't forget everyone, tonight is chat night ;)
I'll be there!
The good lady is watching Midsomer Murders so I'll be on 20:00 till 22:00 when I then watch Buzzcocks. I may return, it all depends if I have a better offer at 22:30 ;)
So I hope not to return!
What if I promise to wear my fishnets?
I remember meeting this lass at Ripon whilst in the cadets at summer camp. She was a true punk and she had fishnets on, ah! memories.
Easy CF! Stand down.
That's what she said...
We're open for business! Why not come along and have a chat about precious things?
Yes we'll even let Gollum chat if he wants to.
What IS this chat you speak of?
Click on Shark's Palltalk link and join up, it's free. Then go to the miscellaneous rooms and look for Rowdy Yates. See you there Mike ;)
AAAAAAHHHHH!! Bloomin' paltalk won't load tonight. Will keep on trying. Hopefully I'll be on in a bit. See ya soon.
Good luck Colin
We'll keep your chair free, Colin
I'm having a bit of trouble getting in to the room, but I'll keep persevering.
Mike has arrived so you should make it okay, he said it took him 5 minutes.
We're waiting for you, Kerrin
Watching Conchords again (classic show) and then probably bed (I'm very tired) but after my short, faintly homoerotic, entry (oo-er) I'm all a-quivver to join you lovely men again next time.
See Colin & Kerrin? It's not all bad. It's safe now. x
Glad you could make it, Mike. Hope to see you next week for more SHITSTIX and homo-erotica!
And we had a Canadian drop in for a quick chat.
A spot of music too. Very nice.
Damn, I missed the music............and the erotic stuff, was that after the watershed at 22:00
The room is now open. Free SHITSTIXTM for the first five visitors!*
*This is a lie.
Now, if only I could set up this from work!
Mind you I spend enough time avoiding doing anything worthwhile as it is...
I'm there! Come on in, the water's lovely. And shark infested....
I see Bolt-01 just wants to get his free* SHITSTIX.
* or not as the case may be!
Woo-hoo! It works, it only bloody works! I was starting to think I'd never the damn thing sorted. See y'later fellas, or more likely next week.
Get your arses on here now. We've already had one Simp on.
And it wasn't Godpleton.
Sharky got attackd by a teenage boy who tried to get us all banned. And an image of a nked human face was seen (by others, not me). Terrifying it was.
Don't forget everyone, it's Wednesday ;)
Sorry chaps- out for a quiz night after work, don't plan on being in the house long enough to turn the PC on.
I'll be MIA too. Birthday drinkies. Speaking of which, I'd better think about early dinner as I have to get going soonish. Cheerio!
And we're off! Happy Birthday, Mike (or whover's birthday it is, anyway).
I'll be in sometime after 19:00 till about 21:20 ish, work and all that!
Orange Wednesday, so I'm off to the cinema to see "The Men Who Stare at Goats". Have fun fellas.
It's Kate's pre-birthday drinkies, mine falling two days after my mum died meant I've ignored it (and get to turn 35 NEXT year, result!)
And I'm home. Not a big night out, more a happy celebration in the Carpenters, Seymour Place. Very nice.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. See you next time, hopefully.
What other stuff was discussed after I left Shark, this working on a chat night is a bit of a bugger as I miss the insanity as it keeps me sane!
Well have to say that was good fun. Will try to make it down as often as I can for some of it at leats in the future (football and family willing).
I am of ocurse, as promised taking requests here, as to how to appear before you next week (none of which I will probably satisfy but hey you never know)
It doesn't matter how you appear, you're always welcome. Even in that carbon-fiber nano-thong and blue neon balaclava you so fetchingly sported last evening.

Next time, I hope to see Colin_YNWA dress up as a cat! That would be cool.

It's a kid that looks up un-sourced and unreliable information for you really fast.
I'm in till 21:20.
Alas neighbours wife away, too much Shepards pie and all of a sudden we've got a guest for tea so not sure if I can make it tonight. Shame cos you should have seen my cat custom it was going to blow your minds!
and we were so looking forward to our 30 seconds of view cam footage!
FRIG IT!
>:(
Someone else dress up as a cat, and get in the chat!
NOW!
I have a photo of a fluffy toy cat I recently posted on the unofficial kitten thread. Best I can do.
Get in here Mike.
Chat-bump!
Feeling hugely rough today. Bad tum tum. Curse you ibs. Have popped to bed early. Keeping up with the board from bed. Take care everyone. Miss you!
Bring your tum-tum with you. We have buckets.
Not one for each end you haven't. Going to sleep now. Talk about my guts. It'll be fun and almost like i'm there. It'd be all i'd talk about anyway. Sample dialogue: "ooooh, me bloody belly. Ooooh, me bum. Ow. Ow. It hurts. Ouch."
sounds rough Mike, you missed a good night though. We talked about toast, and wrote a sequel to Blade Runner and everything...
Hope ye all had a great time anyway, I wasn't in the best of form, so I didn't rejoin ye after the pub and the match.
Yeah, I bet you were rightly sick after the match.
Glad I don't follow football...
It's Wednesday folks ;)
"Room does not exist"
>:(
I shall see if I can open it but I can only keep it open till 21:20 if I can, so lets hope Shark turns up soon ::)
Hmmm. Got about as far as Jared. Everything ok at your end, Mr Shark?
It's open folks ;D
Sorry I'm late, everyone. Malfunction with the old lifestyle...
Sounds like an excuse from Kerry Katona...
Late for his own Chatroom, what a damn disgrace ;)
Sorry I left just as Colin M arrived and didn't get the chance to see how things were at his end after the flood?
Hope everyone is well. I'm having a grotty day, early night. Hope everyone's ok. Best wishes to Colin and his family.
Did we get any more nutters, that's what I want to know! We had two before 21:20
The first one came back but... then there were some Dark Shark spells being cast and.. and then he wasn't there any more.
And then it was onto important matters of the day. Peanut Butter and Roger's mum.
And rug munching... or should that be sucking? That there chat room is a scary place...
That wou;d be carpet sucking. I'm working on a T-Shirt.
But now I have peanut butter! Hurrah!
Dissecting that nutter's brain offered up some useful information, but we're going to have to catch a few more before I can complete my research.
I'm sure you'll have a few more for your research by Christmas Jared!
We're open!
With the long, miserable, cold winter nights upon us, why not surf along to the Yap Shop and huddle around the warmth generated by your fellow Squaxx?
Might try and make it in tonight, no podcast to record tonight so free (ish) - should be drawing, but you know...
-pj
You're always welcome, PJ!
'llbe na bt
That translates as "I'll be by in a bit"

I lied. Turns out I am, once again, very tired very early. I'll be by for a little while, but then I'm off to bed for a kip soon. I promise to toolup on mad, mind-bending drugs for next time....
You'd better...
I can't get paltalk to work, I'll try again later.
Have to miss out as I'm in the wilds of Somerset and thus away from my laboratory this evening. Have fun.
Dang. We'll try to get along without you, but you have the key to the toilet...
Oh I forgot. If you simply recite the spell that grants the Power of Making (from the Excalibur movie) that should open the door to the can. Either that or it'll send you nuts like it did with Helen Mirren.
Sorry gang I tried for ages, reinstalled paltalk, altered my firewall, just couldn't get it to work. Hope you had a good night!
I saw you trying to get in, Satchmo. Sorry you couldn't make it :-(
Tried to join in but no luck, whatever happened to the old easy option of the sites chat room
Yeah have to say Paltalk does seem a bit random about letting you in. The last couple of weeks I've had to faff quite a bit before getting there.
What's wrong with you, I know bugger all about computers and I get in.
Anyway in the hour I was on last night we had an exclusive. The Legendary Shark has decided that he is going to give 2000AD some free advertising at next years Ladies Final Day at Wimbledon by streaking across the court with the 2000AD logo plastered across his arse ;D

Now, just you see here...
I am amazed, we in the chatroom use our "SHITSTIX" but in Swaziland they have "Knobsticks" how weird is that!
Open for business.
Come on everybody it's open as the Shark says!
Where is everybody? Anyone would think you don't like us :-(
Wont be able to make it tonight, so feel free to insult me all you like. Have fun.
Unfortunately couldn't make it last night as my wife having hard day with the little un meant I was on bedtime, tea and massage duty last night. I didn't get anyway with
"LFC are on the radio" (they actually turned out not to be AND we lost anyway!)
Nevermind daring to say
"I want to hang out with my virtual fellow nerds its Wednesday..."
I don't even want to imagine what a sentence like that would have led to!
Sorry about Wednesday fellas.
I was - ugh - talking to my family (and also sawing a tree trunk).
The fact that two regulars missed it as well does make me feel better.
If only there was some sort of permanant chat room. I miss those heady days of chatting on my own terms, like some sort of awesome renegade...
I had to leave poor Shark about 20:30 all by himself but I suppose it could open more often. You need to have the special powers to do this and seeing as I have some of those powers I shall ask the old Sharkster what he thinks.
"Hey Shark, what do you think, open the room more often or what!"
Absolutely no problem at all. Any admin can open the room at any time, and so long as there is at least one person in there, the room can stay open indefinitely. I'm happy to grant admin status to anyone from the board who wants to use the room at times of their own choosing.
Can't say fairer than that, can I?
Cool.
I'm sure most of the chatting will take place on Wednesdays as per usual, but it's nice to have the option of using the room on other days.
The room is open and I await your pleasure. Fnar, fnar.
Alas once again not going to make it tonight. Too much pre-X-mas prep. Have fun fellas.
Everybody get in the chat - NOW!
I'm in for half an hour, messed my shifts up and am off tomorrow night, aaaargh!
I'll be in later for a long chat about anything under the sun and above and in front and behind!
It's the last WNC before Christmas, so why not pour yourself a glass of the necessary, throw another reindeer on the fire and come have a Yuletide yap in the Yap Shop?
I've opened up the room in case anyone wants to use it today.
I might pop in if some of you other sods turn up.
Otherwise I'm going to try and badger family members into playing with me on the wii.
Popped by earlier and disturbed Shark but never managed to get back. Oh were does the time go! Now my wife needs to laptop to look up TVs to replace the one that knackered Christmas day (and hence while she's doing that I'll just have to suffer and read comics - oh woh is me) so won't make it by tonight. Hopefully Wednesday I'll be able to play a bit.
I AM IN THERE.

It's de ja vu all over again!
Oh this sounds intresting. I would like to join in if possible. What time on Wednesdays?
The Shark opens the room anytime after 18:00 normally, unless he's late and I open it ;)
Usually from around 18:00hrs (6pm) until well after midnight. You'll find all the instructions for getting to the chatroom on the first page of the "The Intercourse of Beautiful People" thread in the "Off Topic" section of the board.
Many thanks....

If that's where folks want to go, I'll set it up.
I only employ PalTalk because I've been using it for years with very few problems.
Why don't you set it up today then Shark and then get back to us all. If this is the way to catch everyone who can't log in all the better.
I've had a look at this and it does seem a bit... basic. Nevertheless, I'll set the two rooms up in tandem tomorrow so you can decide.
The other place is a pain to get onto/stay on, if there's a viable alternative that might be less hassle for folks then I'm very much up for trying it.
It's a bloody nightmare I tell you.

and I'm logged in as legendaryshark if anyone wants to help me test it out
I went in Shark under my own name but I couldn't find you and everytime I searched my name changed by adding 4 bloody numbers to the end of it ::)

The Paltalk chatroom is open and ready for use :)
I've joined Paltalk how do I find the chat room you are in LS?
Bw
Jay
You can find our thrillpowered room under: Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop
Arsom
Our arsom chatroom is open for business! I'll see you there.
Not tonight I'm afraid - no home net access. Maybe next week...
I'll pop by for a bit I reckon. Tired and busy with various things, but not SO busy that I won't want to drop in and out of the silly chat.
In case anyone's not heard yet, John Wagner's coming to the Yap Shop tonight.
The Shop is open now.
John Wagner is in the house!
Not letting me log in...
Aaaaagh, not letting me in either! Of all the sodding nights!
You poor things!
Shark says that you may need to update your software :-\
Pete's in!
Try dwonloading the Chat client again and reinstalling it.
Also, try not to have any torrents or big downloads/uploads going on at the same time as chatting.
Check your firewall.

Uh... I...

Nerd-gasm! I've got fucking loads of work to do tonight but simply HAD to go and speak to my hero!
Thanks again LEGENDARY Shark!

I'm used to it...
I think I can sum it up by just saying, John Wagner, the nicest man in comics.
Thank you, Shark.
You're welcome, but it's really John Wagner who should be thanked for sharing some of his precious time with us.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. I know I did!
Wow that's a real coupe. Couldn't get by last night which is a shame hope you fella's had fun with Mr Wagner.
Bloody typical. I was sat at the PC most of the night lettering as well. I did think of dropping in, but it is too close to deadline for me to spare time.
GAH!
Anything interesting to report perchance?
Aside from the awesomoustiy of Wagner and MacNeil, it was just fun to hang out with you guys a bit! Really fun, see youse next week!
Ah, Stace was there too!
Mr Wagner seems to have enjoyed himself also and has told me that he "will pop in again sometime."
Is this the coolest place on the web, or what?
I betch you from now on the chat will be filled with "well, this chat is alright, but you realise it's not really in continuity until Wagner shows up... "
-pj
Lets just hope he uses my idea on how Dredd dies, as I thought the master villian who kills him had a great sounding name. Plus the cover up by Rico and his new extra large issue helmet was inspired ;)

Oh shush, Peej. You're just jealous because someone applied "nicest man in comics" to someone other than you. You've lost the crown, accept it and move on.
Hey, does anyone know if Rob Liefield or John Byrne are up for the Yap Shop?
It's Wednesday folks, see you in da house ;)

How do i get into the chat again?
Hi Chris,
Have a look at P1 of "The Intercourse of Beautiful People" thread for detailed destructions!
The doors are open and we're chatting now, peeps. Come along when you're ready!
In 3-4 weeks, expect another very special guest to enter our little chatroom...
You little tease, you.
Might be in a bit later than usual this week.

I'll be in after tea and the pots ::)
special guest (for the next two hours anyway)
David "aw bless him he's trying to Draw" page
I aim to be popping up some time over the course of the evening. Haven't eated cooked food yet today, though.
We'll keep your customary seat warm Ush.
Somebody (I forget who, sorry) asked if the room could be open on a Friday night - so I've opened it up as en experiment. As usual, all welcome. (I may be there, I may not. I'll probably be in and out, round and about...)
What, as in "RIGHT THIS MINUTE" you mean?
Yep. Right this minute.
Now.
This very second.
Uncle Fester's already here.
So long as he doesn't shake it all about :o
I may shake later.
The Yap Shop is open now, all welcome. Come along for a chat and also to hear news of who's dropping in next week...
Man why do I have a feeling next week its gonna be a pain in the balls to get in
So where is the Pat Mill's chat on at?
Thanking Legendary Shark for sending me a reminder
Look what happen's Shark when you invite a new member into the gang, he doesn't know the rules of Chat Club. We don't mention the special guest until the night of the chat. This stops people crying if the guest has had to pull out and also it stops Johnny come lately just popping in for one night and never visiting us all ever again ;)
If more people show up for Mills than Wagner I'm gassing you all.
The Special Guest will be appearing about 8pm next Wednesday night (the 24th of March) in the Yap Shop - all being well. It's a pretty firm date but, as CF says, nothing in this world is certain. I'm sure Mr M will let me know if things change, but so far it looks like it's on.
If you have a pc, download and install the Paltalk chat client (it's free to install and use) from here: http://www.paltalk.com/index.php
Mac and Unix can join in the fun (also free) via this page: http://www.paltalk.com/express/
Once you get Paltalk (which is free, or did I mention that?) working, you can find our thrillpowered room under: Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop. It's a pretty busy service, so it might take you a while to log in.
My advice is to get the software installed and downloaded a few days before the event so that you can familiarise yourself with how it all works. (Don't worry if you can't find the Yap Shop, though - I generally only open it on Wednesday nights or if I happen to be online. The room will be open on Wednesday night, if I for some reason can't get online, there are a handful of others who also have the power to open it up.)
The regulars to the Yap Shop all know this already, but best behaviour on the night, peeps! Anybody being obnoxious or rude (to any of us, not just to our special guest) will be bounced and banned. This has never happened, though, and given the quality of people on this board probably never will.
Also, don't get annoyed or upset if the special question you've spent days polishing doesn't get the in-depth answer you were looking for. First and foremost, the Yap Shop is a place where people (and droids) can get together in an informal and relaxed way. Look on it as a night in your local pub and you won't go far wrong. Just have fun!
Would you like this event pre-tweeted ?
That's a good question, PJ, and very kind of you to ask.
I'm going to suggest no, though, at least for the time being. The Yap Shop, despite its rising popularity, is still relatively young and with too much advertising it could easily get inundated. My initial idea was to have this room exclusively for members of this board, just a cosy place where we could all get together for a chat. We seem to be succeeding at that, which I find very satisfying. A sudden influx of people might just upset the balance and have unpredictable results. I'd hate to cock it up with such a high profile guest in the middle of it all!
That said, I think Tweeting it may be a good idea in the future when I get a bit more used to looking after the weekly sessions or if interest begins to wane.
That's just my take on it, but I'm willing to be swayed by popular opinion. What do you regular visitors to the room think of PJ's kind offer? The Yap Shop is just as much yours at it is mine, so let me know what you want.
Thanks again for the offer, PJ, you're a star!
I only visit it sporadically and when i do i dont say very much so if i am to liken it to being in a pub with others that i know then there is a lot of difference between say 10 of you having a chat and 50 of you having a chat.
With 10 you might have a few chats about different stuff but with 50 it all gets a bit too much and too busy for my liking as i prefer things a bit more intimate so if the chat room got too busy then i very much doubt that i would visit it very much.
I think that less is more so i am not in favor of advertising it and i would rather let it evolve in its own way by word of mouth TBH but i can see that its not unreasonable for other creators to let others know if they do it quietly if there are special guests like Pat Mills
Too much publicity and popularity isnt necessarily a good thing as it would attract the attentions of Dickwads.
Mostly I'd have to say I'm in broad agreement with PW. I don't mind a larger group personally, but advertisement might result in the arrival of morons, both known to us and brand new freshly minted varieties.
Looking forward to it. As I do EVERY WEEK. Sometimes though, real life or health issues get in the way.
:o :o :o :o :o
oh, I'll just say you know who next time.
BTW, downloading the software, right now.
Honestly, I thought that Wednesday in your part of the world would be coming round ssooner than mine. Though date works out the same.
Still, I want to be sure.
I also PM Replied to one of LS messages.
I've tried downloading this chat software af ew times with alotof errors and when I finally gt the entire downlad, it tells me I need Windows Seven.
Which I don't.
We do however have Windw Sevenother computer. Though it's on the blink for the time being, with no hope of being fixed before tommorow.
Now, I was thinking iculd perhaps ask dad if I can borrow his software, see if works on my working computer, but it is very old and slow now. Though it works still, the dvd/cd drive is very dodgy.
Sometimes, it will play music CD for me and on the odd occasion it will install a game for me, but not always.
What I reaally mean is that I willbe really very sprry if I can't make it to the chat with speical guest which I was looking forward to. So, If I don't make it, direct all my appologiess to the I'm person who invited me.
Legendary Shark and the speical guest.
BTW, can anybody give me a rough ETA on this chat. Seeing as there may be a distinct time diffierence.
People start joining the room from 18:00 but the special guest will be in at 20:00ish.
As for the operating system, my laptop is using Windows XP and I have no troubles with the chatroom.
By the way you could send some questions to Shark as he may ask them for you and also get a copy of the evening for you to read. I would do that but I'll be leaving the room at 20:30 for work ::)
ThryllSeekyr, I use Windows XP too and have no problems installing or using PalTalk. I doubt it's a global position thing, either, as I chat to people from all over the world on the service. It is possible that your Windows installation may need some updates or Flash or something like that.
If you can't get the installer to work (and I'd recommend deleting the installer you've downloaded and then downloading a fresh copy and trying to install it again) after checking your firewall/security settings then you can get to the chat via the Paltalk website. From the website, there is the facility to join the chatroom directly from there without installing the chat client. This is not the ideal way to do it, I've been told, but it is better than nothing.
I've just received an email from You Know Who informing me of the sad passing of John Hinckleton and confirming that tomorrow's chat visit is still going ahead.
You Know Who will be there at around 20:00hrs (or 8pm) UK time.
Yeah, XP works fine with Paltalk for me.
I just twittered the special guest and passed on a link to the RIP thread here. He's probably already aware of it, but hopefully he'll be able to pass the link on to Hicklenton's loved ones.
The room is open now in case anybody wants to test it out. My name's there, but I may not be about so don't feel upset if you say hi and get no response.
I'll be by in a bit Sharky!
Woo hoo, chat room leads into Thursday, the day I embark on the Hell Trekk!
Shall I say it again: Wooooooooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooooo!
I will try, provding my own web fu can mange it.
How long have I got now?
Strangly, my head is devoid of any questions I want to ask the man himself.
But I promice to send a few if I don't make it in either way.
Yeah, don't expect anything truly intellectual, thought provoking and I hope not offend the man, but I am Australain afterall.
It'll be about 22 and a half hours from now TS.
Legendary Shark I have just PM you with some questions for the guest. Hope you like them. If you don't please let me know. Gives me some idea where I screwed up.
8 hours to go...
I got your questions, ThryllSeekyr - you not going to be able to make it, then? :(
Pat Mills should be in the Yap Shop in ten minutes, or thereabouts.
The Mills has landed.
Aaaaaaaarrrrgghhhhhh. I was logged into Paltalk but then the connection went down it then told me to download the latest version which I did but now I can't log in Aaaaaarrrrggghhh!!!!
Persevere, Mr N.
It's not letting me log in!
It seems their servers are a bit busy. Just keep trying and if you get no joy, try either downloading the very latest version of the chat client or logging in directly through the Paltalk website.
And I'm in!
Are you seriously going to ask those questions....
They were all I could think of at the time.
I suppose I could add "Correct Slaine Pronouciation" & what is found to be the acceptable Pronouciation from people like me.
But it's not voice chat,or is it?
hmm, sorry, does look like I missed it already.
No, TS, come on in - Pat's still here
It's not really a Q&A session as such, but I did ask this:
1) It's hinted at that in a interview with Ukko in one of the earlier annuals that Slaine once won him in a game of Fydchell. Was
this their first encounter? Who was the original owner? Where did this happen?
PM "Yes, I think it was their first encounter. It's a story waiting to happen. So who it was is yet to be discovered by everyone, including me"
Thats really cool that he answered that one.
Now, I might be tempted to ask more outlandish questions such as.
What are the possibilites of Slaine, Nemisis, & A.B.C. Warriors X-over ever happening?
As for joining this chat, I would if I could.
Downloading software to another computer, right now.
Use Paltalk express, it's much easier.
Here's another.
Where did Slaine get his second axe also named Brain-Biter, after he destroyed the first right towards the end of the epic Dragonheist :-*
Sounds like a dumb question, I know, but I must ask ::)
Well done Shark, Pat was great! The list of creators was veeery impressive tonight too - MacNeil, Holden, Weston, Teague and Mills, yowsers!
Get your signature changed young man!
Ha! Just gone up to the missus and excitedly said "I've just been chatting to Pat Mills online!"
"Who's SHE?" she demanded...
Thank you Shark, that was a fantastic way to spend an evening. You are indeed Legendary.
Sorry I couldn't stop by, not feeling at all well, but glad it went well.
I'm on the page, but not sure how to get in without the lenthy waiting for download.
I know, I should have prepared earlier, but when I did, I wasusing my old computer.
Anyway, it lookslike Pat Mills has ben & gone.
I'll leave the page open while the download continues.
Never mind, TS - I think he'd like to visit us again from what he said :)
The shark done well and Pat was on good form.
I tried to get in a couple of times, but it wasn't happening. However, glad it went well chaps.
I was there for a short time- a very impressive line-up.
Bolt- I had to try 6 or 8 times before it let me log in.
a virus destroyed my computer :'(
I just got an email from Pat:
"It was most entertaining - my first chat room!
Everyone was very friendly and very well informed. Do send them all my regards and hope to be back there sometime soon.
I've finally got the Requiem Facebook page up and running. Would love to read this.

I'm glad Pat had fun. So did everyone else there. There weren't many questions, it was more "please Pat, can you tell us something about X?" I must admit to being lost for words for a good 10 minutes until I was confident there really was a Pat Mills in the room, and after that I didn't wabnt to burden the conversation too much with gerbiuls and my parking problems!
I very qucikly skimmed through the trnascript and was pleased to read that two of my questions were answered.
I know, I did ask some silly questions.

His Sharkiness has a copy, I'm sure if we are all nice he'll post a trimmed down version that doesn't include all the "Hello Chris Weston", "Goodbye Chris Weston" (quite a few people were in an out like yo-yos). Some interesting stuff, especially about the progress of American Reaper. Plus the list of strange things ThryllSeekyr has sent him over the years.
Quoting Emperor....QuotePlus the list of strange things ThryllSeekyr has sent him over the years.
Oh, really, you mean he actualley reads me and all this time?
I have just been in contact with Judge Dredd's other dad, Mr E. He can't promise, but he's going to try and make it in tonight.
Jesus God!
I know I'll be trying to load paltalk again tonight and I know I'll be cursing at my stupid laptop when it will hang on that F**KING 92 percent complete, as it does every frikkin' week.
Why does my laptop hate me so, I treat it well, I don't batter it around too much...... Gah!
Nice one Shark, lets keep our fingers crossed.
You can also here all the hi-ex stories too boring for the board tonight.
You can always try this: http://www.paltalk.com/express/
That's the one I try Shark.
I can't do the full install on my laptop (won't work for some reason).
I used express a few times as you remember but the last month or so it just stopped working. Bastards!

Are these two threads ever going to get merged? I never know which to post on!
I think we can ditch one of these threads now. Lets have a vote, shall we keep "Intercourse" or "Chat?"

Bummer Mike. But i know what you mean.
Nevertheless, my temperamental bastard of a laptop decided to let my log in to the room tonight. Missed Carlos though... Bugger!
I've not been able to get into Rowdy Yates for a few weeks now due to running around at home. Man does it sound like I've missed alot of good stuff. Well done Shark for making this all so much fun for everyone!
Another idea for a guest appearance: David Bishop. ;)
I just want to thank Shark for managing to get Mr. Ezquerra into the chat room last night, well done Sir.
Yeah Gav just beat me to it Shark, thanks for all your hard work the last few week Shark.
We loves ya!
I can't believe there are still people who haven't visited the chat room.
They must have been BORN STUPID.
Thanks, everyone. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
I think all the regular Yappers can give themselves a huge pat on the back also for making the room such a great place to hang out on a Wednesday night. Every special guest so far has commented on how welcoming and polite we've all been, which is a credit to you all. Many thanks must also go to PJ Holden and, of course, to the Yap Shop's own resident legend Colin MacNeil for joining us week in and week out.
With the unfortunate Tankslapping that's been going on elsewhere, it's good to know that droids and squaxx can get on perfectly well together and also have a good laugh into the bargain. In fact, if Rufus is reading this then get on over to Rowdy Yates one Wednesday night and I'm sure we can rebuild some bridges.
Right then, I'd best continue hunting down our next special guest...

Rufus as a special guest would get my vote.
It's good to yap. That's a slogan right there, sharky. Get Bob 'Oskins to say it.
Speaking as a stupid person, what did Carlos say? Is he working on a Dredd mega-epic to follow up Life & Death?
We're probably supposed to be sworn to secrecy about the Words of Carlos but hey I'm a girl, we gossip...
I showed up just in time to hear him say farewell and that the people on the Yap Shop were a "fantastic bunch" but apparently he also talked about squirrels, cigars, swimming pools, women, family, drink and a bunch of random comic stuff. Never good with details but it seems the comic stuff was quite exciting - he was finishing this, starting on that, working on some other.....
Not helpful I guess but he seemed a lovely fellow.
The summary I heard was he'd like to die like a bird (over his drawing board) or under a pile of birds (by a swimming pool with a drink and a cigar). After he'd left someone suggested as he lived in Spain he might be able to do both at the same time.
Well I am in shock that this was said to me..
he said this to me...
carlos_666: Roberta, send a picture to all the artists here and I am sure your appear in a lot of comics
And although I have "spread the word" No One belives me.
(Still wondering if I should submit a photo... or if Carlos Equerra was pulling my leg... What do you guys HONESTLY think?)
If Carlos "the real Big E" Ezquerra had said that to me I'd have done it by now. And if it was an early April Fool's Day joke then it was still worth a punt (and could always get something out of it purely from sympathy).
OK.. but how should I do so?
An E mail attachment?
Snail mail?
Becaue I don't know the addresses to start off with...
(And what would I have to sacrifice? More chickens?)
Always with the chicken sacrificing!!
How about this for an idea: we start a "Use me, abuse me (in comics)" thread where people can post their photos and if a creator was looking for a few extra faces to fill out a crowd scene they could always dip into that thread for inspiration.
All this on the understanding that they might make you look like a gilded colludes handing out justice to the unrighteous but it is at least as likely (more so?) that you will see yourself depicted being dry humped to death by a mutant pigosaurus.
Sound like a plan?
Well I'm game...
Could be... "Intresting"
(I live in a small flat, Chickens is all I have room to sacrifice.... What do you suggest the? Goldfish?)
Oh yes. You start it, I'll post my uggerly mug.
No you start it ;)

Make sure you have the latest Chat software and if that doesn't work try logging in directly through the Paltalk website. Also, ensure you have no downloads going on at the same time as logging in and that you don't have a million browser windows open - stuff like that. :)
If I download it will that be my weeks worth of 1GB spunked away?

Why does everyone have to be sent to Coventry all the time when there are so many other suitable places to be sent to like Middlesborough or Skelmersdale or Winsford or Runcorn or Widnes or Blackpool for example ?
Damn it sttuck again & won't relaunch...
I think that can happen if your connection goes a bit... wibbly.
Anyway for those that missed it:
Shark was working on a special guest but it didn't come off, I'll keep quiet about who just in case it is still in the works.
Adrian Bamforth was there so he became the special guest - everything is going well with him on the comics front with a Future Shock in and talks with Image about some project. He is a little worried about the speed of his drawing (but if the outcome is that good I am prepared to wait) but things are going well in his graphic design day job.
Colin MacNeil is expecting to start Insurrection 2 any day now which is enough to give a lot of people a tingle in their pants. He is also interested in perhaps doing a comic book with sword and sorcery or WWI/WWII themes so people threw in a few pointers on who to speak to. However, he will not come and hoover your house for you - which is, frankly, a bit of a let down. He did give us all iPads with an individual sketch on them moments before PJ turned up.
Continuing the Good News theme, Commando Forces said he would murder Roger for free, even though I offered to have a whip round to cover expenses.
Oh and the important conclusion: All right thinking people love Babylon 5 with frightening intensity, plus we found it is very easy for a typo to make Claudia Christian into a man and just for the briefest of moments everyone stopped to ponder how plausible this would be. Plus Colin loves drawing boxy spaceships, so if JMS is looking to make more B5 comics, preferably involving mainly Earth ships...
Bollocks!
I fell asleep on the seat after I got home at 7.30. I remained so until about midnight at which point I went for a piss, and went to bed.
So I missed everything.
Well I was at the dogs last night so I missed it too.
In one race there was a dog called 'Emperor' something and in another one was called 'Bolt' something. I put a shiny golden pound on each and they both lost, thanks for nothing guys!
We also reminisced about going to the pictures in the 70's & 80's to see the 'original' blockbusters. At the same time we mentioned the Saturday morning shows, when you saw a childrens film foundation short, a serial (Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, etc...) and the main film along with a magician, ice cream & plastic flavoured orange during the intervals.

Count yourself lucky - if the piss had arrived at any other point in your list it wouldn't have been good. ;)

You should have checked with me first - I hold the schools record for the slowest cross country run and came so far behind in the 1500 metres that a boy with the nickname "Fatty" beat me by half a lap. If the bookies allowed me I'd have bet a reasonable amount that a dog or horse called "Emperor" would come in so far behind it'd come second in the next race.
Now you tell me Emp! A pound, wasted, gambled away! How will I feed my starving children? I AM Eight Ace!

As I feel this is partly my fault, for luring you into thinking I am Arsom In All Things, I'll go halves on that and will give you 50p when we meet.
Sniff, cheers Emp! D'you think I could ask Bolt for 50p off the next issue of Zarjaz too?

I did exactly the same thing in a school cross country just as an act of defiance to spite the school and the house so i walked the whole thing and came 7th to last out of the entire school.
I'd like to claim it was defiance - I put it down to being built all wrong for speed (I have deceptively short legs - the nice man in the suit hire shop had to measure my inside leg twice and get the lady out from the back room to double check) and appalling coordination.

You know what, now I have set a precedent, I'd not be surprised if you found one shiny whole pound in your PayPal account right now from Bolt. Go and check.
There is a real skill in being able to run slower than you can walk- especially when you need to sustain it. I too learned it on the school cross-country route. I finished last and was made to 'run' round the playing field twice as punishment. Which made me late for the next class.
Which was good.
And it was definitely defiance.
Hello, thought I'd pop in to say thanks to TLS and the rest of you for making me welcome over the last few weeks. I was sorry to miss Adrian, but glad to hear things are going well for him.
Anyway, thanks to Colin for the whisky recommendations and hope to see you next week.

I had to do exactly the same thing as punishment for letting down the house. It wasnt because i was no good at running but it was because i was expected to be good at sport because i am built for it but i hated it and being forced to take part in it which caused lots of problems. They really didnt like the fact that they thought i had potential but wouldnt make the effort so it was definately a protest.

The room is open!
C'mon folks, get yer arses in the Yap Shop.
Strange thing is that it says I posted at nine past ten in the morning and Shark has replied at roughly five oclock in the afternoon.
That must be UK time.
Anyway, I just got up after four hours sleep, just now.
Not sure if I can still make itto the chat.
Ya, should be still going for some time yet, Thryll.
Just a sec, I'll get onto my old computer.
I had a great time but work gets in the way. The sooner I can chat away on this phone, the better ;)
I'd have been there, but I needed to unwind by playing Caesar III, trying to get my city inhabitants up to 10,000. I haven't been online much lately.
Liar.
Sorry, didn't make it. My internet is low at the moment, it will rise again in a week from Sunday.
Though honestly, I don't think the software is compatable with either of the computers I have available.
I've just been in touch with John Wagner. He says he's going to try and make it in tonight but can't promise anything as he has things to do.
Other invitations have been sent, still waiting to hear back.

CRAP! Paltalk bombing me out again. Everyone else just uses the web thing, yeah?
Ya, it's been worse then usual tonight, it has even chucked me out tonight.

Me neither.
Though, I did sacrifice a young lamb to Paltaawk god of hate.

I didn't get booted out, I had to leave for work and yes I'm hard at it now.

One thing that came up - Chris Weston dropped in asked if anyone had a copy of Nikolai Dante Volume 3: The Courtship of Jena Makarov to sell or swap. Don't forget, peeps - tonight is chat night over at the Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop. We need some special guests if anyone fancies joining in, I've been coming up short over the last few weeks after such a strong start. Still, it's not all about the stars, is it? I always enjoy my evening with the Yappers, and so will you all!
See you there!

I'll be on soon, just got to do the pots and pack my gear for work. Plus Sam has to mess about on youtube while I do all this, so I'll sign in about 19:00 ish ;)

Could I make a suggestion: every wednesday repost details about how to join the chat - I realise those details are upthread, somewhere, but back in the day - when Si Spurrier used to remind everyone of the chat, he'd post how to join in every time, really helps in encourage new people - and old people whose memory isn't what it was...

I'm looking forward to Stace knitting a Mean Machine balaclava. I think I had another 2k AD knitting idea, can't remember what it was. I did think of another - knitted Judge badges, in fact a judge uniform cardigan with the badge knitted in, and a judge helmet woolly hat.

If you can't get the downloaded chat client to work, you can join in directly from the Paltalk Express website...
http://www.paltalk.com/express/
Thanks, Le Shark. Having a go now.
OK, any problems, let me know and I'll try to figure it out. So long as you're not being blocked by your firewall or anything, and aren't downloading tons of stuff or have loads of web browser tabs open, it should work.
Nah, it's not working. Sorry, mate. I give up. I'm working Wednesday nights from next week anyway.
Dang. That's frustrating. All I can suggest is that you do a thorough uninstall of the chat client, download a fresh version and try again. Sorry about that, Trouty :(
I liked the old database chatroom. One click on the board and you were there. You could even see how many people were in it when you looked at the board.
I realised that's very old-fashioned but it worked.
Get with the kids, you old fart ;)
If anyone knows of a better place or chat client, I'm happy to give it a whirl. Thing is, the majority of folk who use Paltalk get on ok with it. It's not perfect, but it does what it says on the tin.
If only there was a chat facility on this website...
I chat shop still open?
800/500 was tooo early for me......
Yes! Join us mayor!
Right, it just keeps asking me if I want to installl what I have already installed evrytime I try to enter the room.
Not to worry, I'lll just keep trying.
Another highly enjoyable chat last night, Yappers, thanks to you all!
Thryll, the only thing I can suggest is that you do a full uninstall of the software (there is a great and free uninstaller that gets rid of every trace of an installed program here: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html ), delete the downloaded installation program and download/install it afresh. There are hundreds of chatrooms on Paltalk going 24/7, so there's plenty of scope and time to practice before next Wednesday.
Will do.
And, we're open for business!
That'll be the chat in

No probs, Grumpty - I hope you weren't upset about that. It's just that I can't mute the room, I have to keep my headphones on in case of noisy room-raiders.
Thanks for dropping by, though, and you're welcome back any time :)
No far from it. I understand completely :) At least now I know how to subdue a Dolphin lol
Hi. Just joined the boards.
Could anyone tell me why you're using Paltalk? Would an IRC channel not be better?
Or you could always use skype for voice + text chat if someone volunteered to host the chat (involving inviting people as they message them)
Brian
I've been using Paltalk for years, so when I joined this forum, found this thread and discovered that Wednesday Night Chats had fallen into disuse, I decided to begin hosting chat nights myself in the software I was familiar with.
We have tried IRC, but it was a bit fiddly for some people and Paltalk won out in the end. I've never tried Skype, so I can't comment on it, but I'm always open to suggestions for a better chat-host website or program. To be honest, I'd be overjoyed if a chat feature was added to this very site as it would be easier for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy hosting the Yap Shop on Wednesdays and I enjoy the company of all who visit. We could do with some more regulars, I suppose, and my droid-fu has been coming up a bit empty lately on the Special Guest front - but so long as people want the Yap Shop I'm happy to host it on Paltalk until something better comes along.
Placing aside the ads (which I understand can be fixed with a link displayed in the room every week), Paltalk is doing exactly what we require of it for Wednesday night chats :)
Works for me albeit mic probs
I'm happy with it and I know nothing about these computer thingies

We did try to keep the noise down for you...
I got kicked, but I needed to leave anyway, nice to chat again folks, see you next week.
So last night everyone had sloped off, I was away tinkering with my wireless network (must remember to double check it again today), sharky started singing to himself, Dog saved him from full mental meltdown and then John Smith turned up. A nice surprise guest appearance (which went from writing to music via inspiration in general and we learned that police stations aren't built on ley lines, or are they??) and he'll hopefully turn up a bit earlier next time now he has dipped his tow in the water.
I seem to remember dropping in on one of these about last year.
Is there a way you can hook up audio to it like skype or is it still a typed conversation?
Just when you mentioned singing how'd you know he wasn't just reciting poetry?
Sorry guys I wasn't there... but you all know why (Or will do once you read "The Roberta effect" topic in help..

anyhoo- it was indeed a rather splendid chat with John- changing topics, multiple conversations and plenty of the trademark communual mental illness that is the chatroom's forte. And there was only four of us (and one of them was away 'fiddling with his bits' ;)).
I only just nipped in 'for a few minutes before bed' and left them all at 3.45 am to get some sleep!
Damn, work meant I had to leave at 21:00 aaargh!

Thats great news.
In the event he does tune in, I supppose I should compile a list of questions or anything to say at all.
Don't forget, tonight is the Yap Shop's First Birthday Party - an excellent time to drop in if you haven't been in for a while or if this is your first time.
There will probably be droids...
Oh crap I thought today was Tuesday. Sorry Sharky (and everyone else), won't be able to make it (unless it's very late on), so have fun and give my regards to all your famous friends :)

I thought it would be something like that. In answer to your suggestion, however, eBay doesn't allow the sale of offensive items so that idea's out, I'm afraid.
I'll probably pop in at some point - hopefully not as late as the last couple of times! I've also told Pete (Doherty), Lee (Carter) and Chris Standley about it too... though they all have kids and stuff so we'll have to wait and see, eh?
That's brilliant, John. Thanks!
Are you folks already in there? That is dedication. Or are you putting up decorations and making sure the jelly and cake is all ready for when people turn up?
Yep, in here now in case anyone wants to practice finding us for later on.

Yeah keeping up with things is tricky to say the least... or am I just old and slow... either way had fun last night and must try to get in more often.
I don't turn up often, but had a good chat last night. Took a break and got sidetracked, so never actually made it back - shame I missed Pat Mills. What was the maximum headcount? There were about 20 in when I was chatting.

Wasn't it something to do with yourself,Tarbuck(liza) and a biiiiig tub of chocolate sauce.

It was to do with daughters looking like their fathers, so when you are doing the dirty deed and you are looking at her face (ie Tarbuck), you get the idea :o
I won't be around for the next one so I hope you all have a jolly old time anyway (not really, I hope it is the time Roger sings for you all night long and the mute buttons don't work ;) ). You'll probably manage to get Alan Moore on as a guest and break the Internet and everyone will talk about "the night Alan showed up". Damn, you really can't afford to miss one of these, can you?
Sounds like a great night and an incredible guest list. Well done, Shark and I'm very disappointed I wasn't able to make it.
And we're open!
We're still open for late night chat. It's all gone a bit adult, though...
That... isn't the term I'd use...
Juvenile adult?
Aaargh, was just settling in last night and my broadband went down. (Insert "if only my wife..." joke here). Better luck next week.

We've been talking about gerbils and I at one stage became convinced that Ush had been carried off in a deluge after he typed "Rain... Washing in..." after which nothing was heard for five minutes, during which time I became increasingly concerned. Ush eventually returned to say that he'd got the washing in before the rain got to it. Brian has a beef curry and fried rice.
HOLY CRAP FRIDAY NIGHT CHAT!
i have to service my woman (it's in the contract (effing small print)), but if you're still there when I'm done I'll drop by. Give me 5 minutes (have to brush my teeth too).
Dose that include the time it takes to eat the pizza....?
And they say men can't multi-task.
I WILL see the (dim and murky) lights of the Yap Shop again before I die. Determined 101
hmmm... although no ones in chat at the moment it normally displays the name of the room, however I can't find it.
It only displays the name of the room once an Admin's opened it. Hang on, I'll do just that now...
Oh balls. I need to install Paltalk on the laptop - Wednesday already??
It's all very quiet in there at this hour!

It's very busy now, though.
After I'd had my chips I fell asleep in front of the telly. Sorry about that!
Shark is rubbish ;)
Tonight we had Gordon Rennie in too who was suitable enigmatic about the chance of there being any more Cabs. I did try and tempt him and Colin into returning to the glories of Bloodquest or Predator together (or even a Predator vs Blood Angels crossover, although the Aliens vs Blood Angles idea tickled me Acid Blood Angles ;) ). Nothing :(
We have possibly started the ball rolling for a game night on a non-Chat night.
Ahhh piss!
I was planning to get on to the chat last night and somehow when I got home I completely freakin' forgot about it.

You cannot beat home made chips.I havent made any for ages and home made straw/french fries are better but they are more work.
I don't do "more work." I don't even peel the spuds before chipping them.

nev IS IN THE CHAT ROOM FOLKS. NO NEED TO THANK ME.
The Yap Shop is now online.

Or something.
Bum, its not letting me in tonight. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't, still can't figure that out. Anyway sorry gents. Have a good night!
:-(
And the Yap Shop is open.
Don't forget, tonight the Yap Shop is the venue for Commando Forces' Spot the Difference Competition Prize Draw...
I'm going back in time to enter as we speak!
Shit.
I've been booted.
Scurrilous lies!
About time
Bah, it kept kicking me out! I suspect Godpleton...
As per bloody usual, domestic "bliss" prevented me from getting to the Yap Shop. Looks like I might not have been able to get in anyway. So, who won?
Yeah I couldnt get into it last night again either. :'(
Somebody is going to have to take the job of posting a synopsis of events in this thread, as the chats progress, so those of us who can't get in can comment here and have our comments relayed back to the people in the chat forum.
Ha!
Might have been answered elsewhere, but Sharky won. Not a fix, honest....
Sassenfrassenrassen...
Apparently, there was server maintenance going on at Paltalk last night - even we all got booted out at 4am while they shut down their servers to clear all the mice out.
And I won a book :-D
The chatroom is open.
My pc seems to have picked up a bit of an aneurism, so I'll have to use the website tonight.
Brian - I'm having pc problems. You can find the room in the Room Navigator under Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop.
Was having trouble myself. Paltalk don't take kindly to linux.
Sorry I disappeared was disconnected and couldn't face re-trying at nearly 3am.
It's 80's Night in the Yap Shop. Come and have a look. (Bring your own sideburns.)
Sideburns were in the seventies...
Not in our village. In our village, they've never been "out" since 1235, and then only for a fortnight. All our schoolchildren are taught the shame of the Great Whisker Revolt to ensure such blasphemy never occurs again.
Wet wet Monday Yap Shop?
"Load of Old Toot" Tripe talk Tuesday?
It was a suggestion, not a pun
(of course we'll have to open up a temporary room if Shark isn't online as he has the keys)
He's busy no doubt, slaving away over a Secret Project. ...Or at least he should be! :)
Well it's apparently free to run a room soif there is a demand.. anyone can do it.
Although I can't do Tuesdays... Panto rehursals...
And we're open for business!
The room is open in case anyone fancies a Sunday Afternoon chat...
We're teaching a Moroccan to speak English at the moment!
:o
A Moroccan Interrogator just got Shark to spill the origin of his name.
But it will never be spoken of again
And, we're open for business! No Moroccans as yet, though - unless there's something Nev's not telling us.
Sorry, I don't think my back-up lap-top Orac can handle Pal talk... so until someone manages to get apocalypse box working again, I won't be yapping sigh

Keep your friends close and your zombified family members in a well ventilated shed. However, for religious and biological reasons there are a lot of us and I haven't got round to tinkering with all of them (plus you need to keep a few spare parts walking around - just in case).
I enjoyed last night's chat. I stayed up later than is advisable for me. I was 5 minutes late for work this morning, but I needn't have bothered, because the depot managers had decided they didn't need any agency staff today. Thanks for letting us know, like.
Buggerit fell asleep at the computer last night,my apologies for that back next week see ya's then.

Was that not John?

I'm sure I don't know *what* you mean...
I fell asleep last night but I had been up for nearly 36 hours getting my body clock sorted for this weekend. I didn't touch the keyboard though, as my head was perched on my hands and after half an hour I decided to go to bed :-[
The Saturday Room is open but will close it again eventually if there's no other people bored on the internet :D
There's a certain Gordon_R in the chatroom... I wonder who it can be?
Well, yet again I try to download Paltalk, this time on my brand new laptop... and yet again it refuses to download twice, and when it eventually does deem to do so, it refuses to install due to "incomplete or corrupted file".
Bollocks.
SBT
You could try using the PaltalkExpress feature on the website?
so how do i get on the chat?
Go to www.paltalk.com and download the PalTalk Scene program. Install and register, then find the Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop listed under Miscellaneous/Other.
Well I have managed to download the programme.
Fingers crossed I can get in.
My connection has been worse that ususal recently.
I just downloaded the program myself.
I've logged on now.
I know talks aren't scheduled to tonight but I figured I'd try and find the chat room. I looked under Miscellaneous/other and there is no Rowdy Yates. I do see a Dog House though, but it's locked. ;)

I will send His greatness a cake...
If we can find a curriour.

But the amazing news is that Carlos actually lived for a decade in my home town of Croydon.
i have lived here all my life... we could of passed each other & not known...

All ready for another evening of integillent chat? Me neither, so I opened the Yap Shop...

I just installed a new firewall on Tuesday night- it seemed to be causing problems with Paltalk. I'm not sure if it's sorted now or not- I did mean to try and get in again later, but I fell asleep. I guess I'll catch yous all next week. Maybe.

I am impressed by the way you can destroy computers - I knew a guy like that who always reckoned it was because he had a dangerous excess of static electricity. Heh. I ended up alone with him in the yap shop when I visited a while back. (I tend to dread being alone with just one other person as I'm not the chattiest person on these things. When there's a crowd, you can let them chat then chip in if you think of something.)
Very nice, down to earth chap. We chatted about the differences between US and UK comics creation.
Gah I will be V late tonight IF I can make it
I had to perform a factory reset ... again as all my web browsers "stuck"

The Paltalk software update I installed last night added its own toolbar to Firefox and changed my homepage to AskJeeves without any request or warning so it's uninstalled and can go fuck itself.
Weird. When I installed the latest updated version it gave me the option to install (or not) the Ask toolbar. I chose "no."
Still, you can always log into the Yap Shop via the Paltalk website instead.
Chat room's open and I've put plenty of coal on the fire. Why not pop in for a warm?

What I missed him, argh! Computer kept freezing so I had to shut it down.
The room is open for the last yap before Christmas. I'm struggling off out into the Great White for a while on errands, so I won't be in until probably gone 7pm. Still, you don't need me, do you?
Orac refuses to load the Paltalk programme... so yet again I will be absent.
But I won't be missed.

Or is it a problem with your Oxygen radical absorbance capacity?

What is a punk meant to do, when it's Tuesday & there's no Yap Shop?
Have a wank.
A little late to the party there Joe. I shall re-phrase : What is punk meant to do, when he's shot his load, had a smoke, and a cup of tea; AND it's Tuesday & there's no Yap Shop?
Go out and vandalise a bus shelter, OBVIOUSLY!
Remember- punks aren't meant to have something to do, how else are you going to be sneeringly apathetic?

I've got some socks need pairing. You can drop round if you like - there's whiskey.
I do see your point Deever, but the whiskey is enticing.

Sorry Emperor- the infinity-negativity generator must have been cranked to the max causing collateral damage.
And to think- you missed such varied topics as Wookie porn, the colours of Twi'lek pubes, the allegorical representation made by Ewoks, how much Fender Strats suck and which Vulcans looked like dirty little minxes.

Well damn, that is a list of all my favourite topics.
Well, we can do it all again tonight. I declare this chat session open...
Well did we enjoy your chat to Adrian while I was walking about in armour and chainmail?
Cause my PC is now compleatly frelled.
Not even a Factory reset will bring it back to life.
(Oh my poor facebook fish...etc)
We did enjoy it! Now where's the crusader porn photos in the Cosplay thread?
I am surprised you haven't already set it up.
PC still dead so won't be joining you tonight.
WILL be collecting the photos though
BUT
Adrian eliminated all those with the helmet off...
they were too out of focus...
Hollywood superstar Steve Buscemi will be joining us tonight, to discuss his two favourite topics - fire safety and Big Dave.
So don't miss tonight's chat whatever you do!
There's talk of opening up a chat room as part of this board. However, that's not happened yet so if you wanna' chat, the Yap Shop's the place to be! Never tried it before or haven't dropped in for a while? Well, come on in - the water's fine and I've had my tea, so you'll be safe(ish).
I have those "crusader porn" photos....
where do you want them posted?
On the internet.
"Crusader porn"! Who-hoo!
I ment do you want them posted here or in another section silly... ::)
The internet has another section? Cool. :)
Might as well post them here and show non-Yappers what they're missing.
Of all the Wednesdays on all the calendars of all the countries on all the worlds in the universe, Chat Night had to be on this one...
Come along and experience something unique(ish)!
Oh, dear. Just remembered how fabulously drunk I was during last Wednesday's session!
To be fair, I had just watched my football team record one of their most famous victories...
I sort of recall being embarrassingly giggling-schoolgirlish with Colin (but I meant every word!) & then roping Sharky into helping me write a song (thanks Shark!)...the rest is a bit of a blur!
But where is the crusader porn?
:-*
Indeed. Where IS the crusader porn?
Bah! Yap shop won't let me in!

Tony Hancock is in the Yap Shop.
I stomm you not.
It is rather rusty... MOST of our swords got stollen remember?
We do have a couple of better blades but Adrian thought it would be an ammusing contrast to give me a really BIG weapon (It's blade, not including the hilt is 5 foot on length)
I'll just bet he did. Matron.

Yaay! It's Wednesdaaaaaaaay!!
Yap yap yap yap yap....
If I knew how to get involved I'd give it a go.
And once more the Wednesday Night Yappage is upon us. If you've never tried it before, or if you haven't been in for a while, why not come along and give it a whirl? (And where's PJ - he started this thread and we never see him any more!)
To join in, simply go to www.paltalk.com and download the chat client (or, if you don't want to do that, you can chat through the Paltalk website itself) and then look for the "Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop which is listed under the category Miscellaneous/Other. Be warned, though, we do sometimes use adult language. (Especially Roger.)
I think I have just managed to download this onto my phone now. Have to wait until Wednesday so I can find the room to try it out :D
I've had the app on my iPhone for weeks yet have never managed to find the Wed Night Chat.
Chat Night is again upon us!
Greetings, Yappers!
It's Wednesday night again and time to lube-up your chat-systems for more incredibly interesting yammer.

Thanks, PJ - we look forward to it!
John Smith is now in the room, too.
How can you not be here?
Can't get paltalk to work on linux. :(
Dang.
Maybe you could chat through the website? There's the facility for that (not sure if it'll work on Linux, though).
IMPORTANT UPDATE

You never said there'd be birds. I will polish my monocle and be along shortly. ;)
We'll pull out an extra rubber sheet for you, Emps. (Don't forget to bring your own oil, the room's supply ran out last week...)
Not an early bird but I'm making my first visit. Be gentle.
Gentle? Well, okay.
Maybe...
Good evening everyone. The Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop is open for business. No wallies in here, nuh-huh, so the jays won't get to eavesdrop. Jared is not an undercover judge. Not one bit. Oh no.
Was that all right, Mr Dredd, Sir? Ouch. Thanks.
Cone and join us, come and join us, come and join us over here!
Well, we're just about half way through the Yapping and what have we learned so far? Well, Jared probably isn't evil and Adrian Bamforth is interested in famous monkeys.
Colin MacNeil's in the room.
If you haven't been in before (or for a while), why not drop by and say hello? Just follow the instructions at www.paltalk.com and find us listed under: Miscellaneous/Other/Rowdy Yates Block Citizens' Yap Shop. We'd be happy to see you!
Also, Colin MacNeil's in the room.

You were fired!
Traitors!
I didn't pay my Virgin bill & they cut me off & threw me out halfway through the yap. Damn that handsome Mr.Branson.
Sorry to miss you all. Still, there's always next week.
Attention Arty Types: The Yap Shop needs a logo. Make us one! I'll rummage out a kind of prize for the winner. Some old Twoothies, perhaps. Or a pair of my old socks. You decide!
I assume that after I got booted out, something astoundingly interesting & exciting happened. Did John Smith serenade you all on mic with a 15 minute version of 'Desolation Row?' Or was it McMahon popping in to offer to send everyone free original Cursed Earth pages? If not, I expect some creative lying at the very least. It surely couldn't have just been the usual assorted miscreants insulting each other, making jokes about Roger's mum & talking about nothing in particular, could it?
I'll see if I can do something logo-wise, Shark. (I still owe you a 'Wednesday' themed song too!)
I'm thinking of joining, someone give me an appropiate username please!!!

Shark would be happy if you called yourself Alan Moore. So do it!

2) What did he say/mention about Dredd, Strontium Dog or Cursed Earth Koburn? (PM me any spoilers please!!!)

Nope I hadn't forgotten... But thanks for repeating the link.
The Yap Shop is open for your pleasure.
There are quite a few people I haven't seen in the Yap Shop for a while, and the room is missing you all. Why not just bob in for ten minutes or so, just to show us that you're still alive and haven't become one of the pod-people or fallen into Roger's, er, facility.
Okay, I'm getting paranoid now. There's virtually nobody here.
On the plus side, we are getting an awfully good collection of tumbleweed. We'll be glad of that, come the winter...
It already IS winter dear
I've had to re-install Windows. What's the software I need again?
Things are hotting up nicely, now :-)
Dr J... Oops, I see you just worked it out! Sorry to miss this, was busy chatting in the hotted up room!
FNC, anyone?
Nice and cosy in here tonight. Just the thing to warm the cockles against the gathering winteriness.
I've just got an IPad and can't get paltalk to work. :(
I'll have to get the netbook out again next time.

There's a paltalk iphone app that works on the iPad. Not brilliant, but it does work.
Abba's playing.
We're not gay, though.
Well, Roger might be - but the concensus is that it's probably a bit more complicated than that.
Wednesday rolls round again!
It's the second-last chat before Halloween (barring extra chat nights) - you can't afford to miss it!
So come on in, let off some steam and listen to the wisdom of the elders....
PalTalk would appear to be having a hissy-fit tonight, so please don't be put off if you can't get in straight away. Go make a brew and then try again - it's also not affecting everyboyyyyyyyyjjjjjjjjjzzzzzzzzzzkt*
One solution might be to re-set your internet connection to get a different IP address. I guess a simple pc re-boot would do this, but might be overkill.
Oh my God, you lot are never going to believe this but stick with me and see what you think. The Legendary Shark is holding this weeks chat in cyberspace...for you young 'uns it's the internet. We are few in number and hope others will read this and come and join in on Rowdy Yates Block Citizens Yap Shop...
It can be a lot of fun and in the immortal Words of The robocuffs in the Robot wars "I ain't a bad robocuff maybe I'll play a word game"
Serious tho' you need this in your life...hey bring the wife too maybe she can add some of the weird female humour that is almost all too often missing! see you there!
Sorry but I'm unable to make it this week!!!!
This kind of disloyalty will not be tolerated. Report to Mek-Quake for immediate reprogramming and darned good thrashing!

Heh, I like that, Foxy :) (Does he have to be waving his cock about, though?)
Anyway, I was bored so the Yap Shop's open. Could be the last chance before an asteroid vapourises t'interweb...

So long as the world doesn't end before I see Acid Mothers Temple tomorrow night it'll be no great loss.
Well, I'll be pretty pissed off if the world is destroyed tomorrow - it's where I keep all my stuff.
Somebody please help me out - I'm trapped in here all alone with the Godpleton creature...
It's not Wednesday night yet, its Wednesday morning so that'll teach you
Premature chatulation?
Where is it?
Over there, next to the credenza.
Is it open?
It is open.
The very large gin I had to accompany it (and to wash down the pints I'd had earlier) didn't seem like such a good idea this morning.
The Yap Shop is open!
Did you know that the Yap Shop is open? Because it is open!
Maybe, next week?
Colin MacNeil is in the room :)
Bollocks!!!!! :(
We're still open, fella! (But Colin's gone to bed.)
I'm writing this as I'm about to go to bed. Night, night all!!!
We've had a really great night tonight :)
I enjoyed my two visits. First visit via the PC at home and second via the phone while at work, isn't technology brilliant :D
Well, it's 6am and the Yap Shop is now closedzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............
I keep logging on but can't see any chat even though it says 6 of you are yapping. :(
Have you tried re-booting? We can see you coming in and out.
I wondered if you could. I'll try again.
Doesn't look like that worked. I'm assuming you've checked your firewall permissions and such, so all I can suggest is maybe re-installing the client.
I've given up. After signing in again I even got a message saying the room didn't exist!
I'll try again next week. Happy yapping folks.
Sorry to hear that, Albi :(
Bah - same problem as Albion from my iPad. Might try the pc later

I was using an iPad too. A problem with the app then I guess.
The Chatroom is open!
Woo hoo!
Oh bollocks, sorry but I'm unable to visit today due to my Mother being off thanks to the damn strikes!!!!!
Chaps I need your help. Post nothing here but I will be on around nine and SHARK... I'M LOOKING FOR PUNS.
I'm doing a private commission - short comic for a couple's wedding - in it the bride has insane sentient hair and the boyfriend must become a superhero and tame her hair. I didn't plot this.
Either way - it's american style so for the cover and "story" I'll need SOME GOOD BRIDE/HAIR puns.
I forgot to bump the thread :-[
BUMP
Ah, that's better ::)
I'm sure I've asked / suggested this before, but, of a wednesday, when chat night is open, it'd be great if as well as saying "Chat Night is OPEN" you also reposted how to get to it. I always forget and there are now so many posts in this thread it's impractical to dig through and find the most up to date info about joining a chat.
(Why, back in my day, youngsters, we had a fellar called Spurrier, that called the shots - and every single time he talked about chat night being open he'd also tell a fellar how to get there.... [to be read in an old western accent for no good reason])

Any problems, let me know :)
Even though the Paltalk app had a recent update I still can't see any of the chat on the iPad. :(
I find it quite easy to join in on my phone when I'm at work
Bit awkward when I'm going through London though ;)

I got it working on my ipad - although I haven't been able to join in the last couple of weeks. I just did a reinstall of the app, then manually trudged through the chatroom folder lists to find the yap shop (search seems completely broken).
I wish we used an IRC channel instead. More choice of clients and I wouldn't get bombarded with spam when I use the PC client :(
Or maybe a skype chat. You dont have to use the voice aspect of it, so people without a mic can still participate, and people who want to talk/play music still can.
Skype is available on most platforms

There is an IRC mod for the forum:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1256
And it has been suggested we could introduce something like that, which would make it very easy for people to join (it runs on Ajax so shouldn't require much extra fanciness, if any).

What about a Christmas Eve chat for all of us lonely bastards?
Let's just get through tonight before we start making Big Plans...
No probs, though - I'll keep the room open for as long as I can over the festering season.
The Yap Shop is open this Christmas Eve,
The local block judge is on medical leave,
So we're free to chat on our dreams and hopes,
Enjoy brief respite from our lives on the ropes,
And ready ourselves for the yearly traditions,
Of dunken rants and eating competitions.
Anyhoo, room's open if anyone fancies it.

Not sure what happened but sharky seems to have disappeared, so I have done the electronic equivalent of wedging the door open with my foot so it should be accessible even if I'm elsewhere until later.
Thanks, Emps - I fell asleep in front of Brian Cox...
As the shark is clearly off indulging in some weird wollyback ritual I have opened the Yap Shop, although I won't be around until later - play nice or don't leave any evidence.

It's been a while, I may as well pop in for a bit.
Too late! :D
I'll pop in anyway, just to spite you, Jared.
The weather is against me tonight. The gale keeps blowing my connexion away.
Carlos emailed and apologised for not staying in the Yap Shop longer. He has just got a new 'provisional' internet connexion which isn't very good and so he kept falling out of the web. He will return, however, when his ISP is more stable.
The Yap Shop - where else is there to be on a Wednesday night?

Still, we had our special time the night before Shark ;)

It varies, anything from two to twenty(ish).
Might drop by next week.

Well,it's open for some-there's a harsh door policy.
I'm not bitter.

It was just a joke, Mikey - we were laughing about booting people out and you just got caught up in the joke. Please don't take it personally and come back soon, y'hear?
Sorry I couldn't make it last night - shit going down at home. Good to see you well enough to do it though Sharky!

Blast. No home Internet connection for at least a month, so the yap shop will have to wait.
I've opened the Yap Shop, so get in here now!
As super-admin and room opener I have decided to declare tonight "Medieval Role-playing night".
Roles will be assigned in the order people join.
1) King
2) Arch-duke
3) Fool
4) Astronomer
5) Robot pornography salesman
6) Elf
7) Wizard
8) Chimera
9) Carnivorous giraffe
10) Whore
So Rogers' mom is joining us tonight. I wonder what number she will join as
Wherefore lurketh the denizens of the Yap Shop? Hath thee forsaken thine monarch?
Get ye hence, verily.

Wish I could join you folks. Have fun.
Well, I've opened the Yap Shop once again.
As super-admin and room opener I have decided to declare tonight "Zombie apocalypse Role-playing night".
Roles will be assigned in the order people join.
1) Seemingly cold but secretly compassionate leader.
2) Guy who just can not get it into his head that it's the zombie apocalypse and keeps complaining about utterly trivial stuff.
3) Suspiciously friendly guy who betrays the group at a crucial moment.
4) Former botanist who starts off defenseless before becoming tough and capable.
5) Robot drug dealer
6) Woman who just cannot handle any of this and will eventually huddle in a corner crying instead of opening that damn door and letting the other survivors through, even though the zombies are miles away and there's plenty of time to close it again.
7) Guy who knows about technology and stuff and does what he's told.
8) Guy who gets into arguments with everyone, especially the cool leader.
9) Person who gets bitten and hides it from everyone, leading to disaster.
10) Inevitable adorable kid who obviously won't get killed.
11) Invariably doomed cop/ex-soldier who has used a gun before and helps the group a lot.
12) Love interest for leader, who helps him get over the death of his wife, who was eaten by zombies.
I have opened my chat room.
Shark, please post a message in next three minutes if you want to claim ownership of the chat room.
Excellent.
Sorry about my absence, chaps - things are a bit grim in Sharkland at the moment. Hopefully I'll be back online and physically god-like again soon.
In the meantime, thanks for keeping the Yap going - I loves ya all!
Hang in there, Sharky! We're all rooting for you.
Thanks, Trouty :)
I'll be back!

Well, okay - but you'll have to promise me not to be so rough this time...
Ye can't keep a good Shark down
Good to hear from you Shark
Best wishes your legendaryness.
The rooms open! Tonights theme is dictators.
I might not be around for a bit as I have many metaphorical irons in the metaphorical fire at the moment. Maybe I won't be around at all. Who knows? Not me!
The room definitely open, but I can confirm that Jared is not there & I definitely haven't spoken to him.
I spoke to Shark the other night by the magic of telephone and told him of the wonderous thing that is DREDD and it cheered him up to know everyones reactions are positive!
Come back soon
You'd better have gotten past the UNATCO training facility Shark!
It's Judge Dredd movie night in the Yap Shop.
In the unlikely event that you actually didn't like the movie, this is an opportunity to air your unvarnished opinion without fear of reprisals from the forum's dictatorial overlords!
And what did old man Jared make of the film? Well, dear reader that would be telling... Now here's tonight's roles for the Dr3dd movie role-playing session.
1) Giant-helmeted Dredd
2) Youthful Anderson
3) A Chief Judge of some sort
4) That guy with the robot eyes who was always scared
5) MaMa Lannister
6) That guy in the yellow top, I forget his name. You know the one I mean. The guy. Takky, or Tony, or something.
7) Homeless guy who
provides perhaps the only funny moment in the whole film.
8 - 10) One of those
corrupt judges
11) That guy who ran the medical centre
12) Danny Cannon
What if you just haven't seen it?
I was Judge Volt tonight...
A judge that doesn't go in Peach Trees but loiters outside all night like a nit for those who still haven't seen Dredd but opened this spoiler anyway.
Can't seem to find Rowdy Yates tonight...
This is the first time I've headed for the Chat in ages, don't tell me it's not on this week!

What are you on about? I'm just in the door and looking for some chat.
John Smith normally only comes out of his cocoon around now.
Bah! No chatting cunts to be found.
'San indictment. An INDICTMENT. What if some ten-fingered normo had just seen Dredd and wanted to unburden him/herself of years on nonscrotness, huh, HUH? Never would've happened in Sharky's day.
I rang The Legendary Shark up last night and he said hello to everyone. He has watched the film, he went with a mate the other night and they both thoroughly enjoyed it. Not enough blood for the shark though!
He did say that he hopes to be back online in the not too distant future.

I shall attempt egress from this here telling-bone...

I won't lie to you. I'm desperate. If you're a serial killer or a hardcore chartered accountant with an interest in train spotting and the colour brown - it doesn't matter, just pop in, say hello. Who knows, you might enjoy yourself. Meet new people/victims/clients.
C'mon. Please.
Please. Please. Seriously. I'm begging. Just turn up. For the love of God, please!
Look, I'm not saying that there will be cash payments to people who turn up. But is it a possibility?

Wednesdays aren't the only fruit...
What is the Wednesday night chat?
Well, it ain't what it used to be.
.
At its height we had chatters like Pat Mills, Philip Bond, P.J. Holden, Carlos Ezquerra, John Smith, Colin MacNeil and a shedload of similar luminaries.
.
Now it's just Jared, Roger and me - and I can't even get in the room any more.
