Other Reviews / Urban Warfare

Out next month and headlining this week's Thrillmail - Urban Warfare. I see what they did there...

I've written a preview article. I understand some on here do not read the Meg. I'd assume most of you have read Underbelly after all those issues were sold - though many are probably in someone's cellar.

Anyway. Nice collected volume with the Prequel & two Sequels to Dredd (2012).

General / Who are the Dark Judges
08 January, 2015, 12:15:48 AM
This isn't really for most of you as most of you know all this.

An article I have written explaing who these chaps are. So much more I could have said in this article, it could easily be twice the length but I had to put some chains on it somewhere.

Events / Nort Contingent - Dredd Birthday Bash
06 January, 2015, 07:45:47 PM
I'm trying to arrange this through my Blog. I'm trying to get as wide an exposure for this as possible and will be inviting any & all fans of 2000AD & Judge Dredd that I can.

It will be in Leeds on Saturday 28th Feb 2015. Details as they currently stand are on my Blog

FB Event Page

There will be an ticket price as I will be arranging venue & refreshments. How big a venue and cost etc will be determined by how many are coming. I'll confirm cost & venue ASAP.

As I say I'm arranging this as Judge-Tutor Semple so if any Borders want to arrange their own Nort get together that's fine by me I won't be offended. If it is the following weekend (can't make the weekend before) I will try to make it.

The Original Series cast from Star Trek & the original cast from the original Planet of the Apes. Fits in with Star Trek Science using dimension travel.

The art is lovely and apparently the first pro work from British artist Rachael Stott. Five preview pages to see what I am talking about.

Film & TV / Why Judge Minty is a good Comic adaptation
29 December, 2014, 07:19:57 PM
A new article, SPOILERS included, giving a few reasons why this brilliant Fan Film is a damn fine adaptation.

There are some BIG spoilers in this article so I advise anyone who hasn't seen the film to watch it before reading.

The film has been out for 19 months on YouTube so I thought it time enough to release an article of this nature.

In no way is it a biggie... But is there a way to stop topics coming up in there?

You can subscribe & unsubscribe to 'Notifications' really easily. However if you comment on a thread you constantly het it coming up in the 'updated' threads that are displayed when you pick [urlhttp://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?action=unreadreplies]Show new replies to your posts[/url]. Some I really don't want to look back in on.

'Political' thread is one in particular, wish I'd never commented in it. Not because I'm not interested in politics, I am. I'm a serving Civil Servant and so I'm a little limited in what I can say; especially during National or MEP Elections (I can talk openly on local elections).

Other threads drift so widely or stay stuck in repetitive ruts.

I usually look at the 'Updated' topics first, you see, then look at new threads. It'd just be nice to cut them down a tad.

If no current way for a user to do it for themselves it doesn't matter, I can just ignore the threads I no longer want to read. Just if there is a way I can do it it'd make for a better experience when visiting speedily in my breaks at work.

General / Who is Orlok? - an article I've written
24 December, 2014, 05:48:53 PM
http://judgetutorsemple.wordpress.com/2014/12/24/who-is-orlok-new-series-starring-for-judge-dredd-villain-starts-7th-jan-spoiler-free/

A look at Orlok. Slightly spoilery of old stories so don't read too far if you don't want spoilers of the old stuff. Spoiler free for new stories.

I will do some more 'Who is ...'articles in 2015 looking at other characters in the world of Judge Dredd.

Never read it before. Never read any of the series before. Loved it!

Written in the 70s set during WWI. Reduces the dating of the material (not that I actually worry about dates stuff).

Really good read.

I've done these separately as the first two pages of Dark Justice show far more than I'd like to see as a reader... As I've said many times I hate spoilers. I know many others don't find things as spoilery as I do and that many don't mind spoilers at all. http://judgetutorsemple.wordpress.com/2014/12/18/judge-dredd-dark-justice-part2-in-2000ad-prog-1912-spoilers-includes-preview-pages/

The corresponding first two pages of Orlok don't spoil much at all, in fact I wouldn't have been too concerned if I'd stumbled across these. http://judgetutorsemple.wordpress.com/2014/12/18/orlok-agent-of-east-meg-one-eurozoned-new-series-starting-in-2000ad-prog-1912-spoiler-light-includes-preview-pages/

I bought this at Thought Bubble. Still behind with my reviews...

A great anthology with a really good mix of stories.

Six preview pages included in my preview.

I've only reviewed two stories, pne from the 2000AD tranch & another from the Megaze, I did that with Casefiles 23.

This volume includes the first half of The Pit.

Books & Comics / Ditko's Shorts
09 December, 2014, 08:41:59 PM
What a great thing this book is...

All art by Steve Ditko. No credits for the writers... :(

These sort of stories were often just fillers in US comics but they are a well known thing to readers of British comics. You can tell a great tale in a few pages. Here there is a huge collection of stories from 1 to 3 pages long.

There are two stories included in my article as a preview.

OK first thing first. I'm reviewing from a Pdf so I can't comment on spines.

Aome cool stories including Midnight Surfer & we see Chief Judge McGruder take the Long Walk and two Judge-Tutors, neither are me.

Preview here.

Nothing much spoilery, not yet anyway. I can't run previews of lettered pages from the first episode of Dark Justice for example... But I've read the first episode. Anyone who has seen art that Mr Staples tempted us with a while back have seen an unlettered page wot is now lettered up.

Molch-R only revealed that one episode to me so I don't have the skinny on the rest.

I do reveal the titles of all 9 stories & the Writer and Artist of each. I also give a few of my own thoughts along with a few details of what I do know without seeing previews of it all.

My full article is on the blog

Books & Comics / Dawn of the Planet of the Apes issue 1
27 November, 2014, 10:33:10 PM
Loved it. This 6 issue mini series spans the gap between Rise of and Dawn of.

So we know who is in the second film but we don't know all about how they got there. This comic introduces us to Malcom's wife for example.

I'm thinking I'll like this series and I've ordered the full run through my LCS already, that's how sure I am.

I'm probably being over cautious with the 'medium spoilers'. Recommended to me by a chap at my LCS OK Comics who happens to write Exit Generation what is like something I also review.
