Round Twenty:

We keep on our quest to find the greatest cover ever to grace a copy of the galaxies greatest comic, and now we come to round twenty and Progs 950 to 1000, we still see the influence of the movie, the awful men in black but at lest we know with hindsight that things do get better.
As usual look at the 50 contenders, pick what you consider to be the best cover amongst them and vote.

Since we've now reached the point where I started commissioning the covers, I feel free to offer my opinions. I'm quite fond of Prog 1000, if only for the coverline (We didn't think it too many!). Prog 987 is also a good 'un, lots of lovely silver ink and top freckle action on DeMarco by Mark 'latex lad' Harrison.

But my vote goes to 979, as it was the first cover I ever commissioned for 2000 AD. Eye-catching visual design, Valentine's Day tie-in and quality Jason Brashill art. He was always one of my first ports of call when I needed a cover.

I seemed to recall dissuading Steve MacManus from using the coverline VALENTINE'S DAY MASCARA.

Anyway, my vote is for 979.

Since I can't vote for 953 to 955 (why don't they bring that out in poster form? I'd buy it!) I shall go for  979 as it's not only one of the most striking covers, it's also well drawn and was on my computer desktop for years. Why can we not have more of this fellow?

Not easy amongst that lot, although to be fair to the artwork I do reckon that it's the logo that ruins most of these covers...
My vote is for 957.http://www.2000adonline.com/covers/2000ad/hires/957.jpg">

For me it's the mean and moody 985...

960 and 990 deserve a mention too.

CraveNoir

I'd stopped buying the thing at this point having had enough of the awful Dredd writing. The "film" killed my interest in the comic for about five years.

It still hurts.
