General / Swamp Thing
24 July, 2004, 05:42:30 AM
I finally found a comic shop to call my own today. They were nice, chatty, and had a decent enough range - better than what I had before at least. Which was, er, nothing. They were also brilliant because I decided to start working my way through Hellblazer (it was payday, I'd just had a root canal tratment and I've had a shitty week so I can justify the expense) so I got the first two collections of that and two Ultimate X-Men volumes to give that a fair chance (not bad. Not great, but really enjoyable) amd he only charged me ?25.42, which made no real sense but I didn't argue!!

Anyway.... I was wondering whether I should forget X-Men or Hellblazer and get Swamp Thing, which I've been hankering to try for a decent while now. I decided against it simply because they only had volumes 2+. I got home and decided 'sod it, I've worked very hard recently and I saved loadsa cash inexplicably today' and went on Amazon to online-purchase Saga Of The Swamp Thing.

?45. ?45!!!!!! The reasonably priced ones weren't anywhere to be seen!! 'Out of stock' with no indication they'd be getting more at all...

Does ANYONE have a copy they'd be willing to trade for something/monies? Really want to give it a try, I think I'll really enjoy it!

General / Apologies
20 July, 2004, 09:24:42 PM
Just a blanket apology - I'm working on a few things for people, colouring, stuff I promised to send etc.

I'm working through it all, but I'm currently doing 12 hour shifts most days, and my parents decided to seperate last night so I'm trying to take care of my sister a bit too.

So.... Sorry! But things are on their way/being finished.

Off Topic / Indiana Jones 4
16 July, 2004, 10:13:19 PM
WHY, WHY, WHY does he have so much control over the SCRIPT of all things?? He isn't really the best of writers.

'Indiana Jones 4' Stalled Over Script Concerns

The eagerly awaiting new Indiana Jones movie won't be released for another two years, because producer George Lucas isn't happy with the script. Indiana Jones 4 has been in the works for a number of years but looked likely to hit screens next year after Lucas recruited star Harrison Ford and original director Steven Spielberg for the project, and hired Frank Darabont to write a screenplay. But Lucas has sent the Shawshank Redemption writer back to the drawing board. A studio source reveals, "Indiana Jones 4 was meant to start shooting this summer but won't now be coming out until 2006. Even though Harrison and director Steven Spielberg were happy with the screenplay, Lucas still doesn't like the final act and wants a faster pace and more action."

Just read book one of this last night and it was rather good. I didn't really expect to like it, but I found it restrained enough to work. I loved little touches like Wolf's shadow being a wolf occasionally.... Very enjoyable, even if I did solve the case as quickly as they did....

What are the rest like? I'm thinking of getting them when I have a little more money (few weeks/months)...

Anyone else read it? What did you think?

Highly recommended...

General / My Strontium Dogs colouring
01 July, 2004, 02:40:01 AM
Just finished this, but I'm putting it in a seperate thread for a couple of reasons.

I know the colours are a bit dodgy, but I have reasons.... I won't bore you with them now, cos it might influence you. I finally worked out what the tools do (thanks Indigo Prime!) but that doesn't mean I can use them...

Anyway, fourth thing I've coloured, first with a basic knowledge of what the hell I'm doing.

General / Apocalyptic Comics
25 June, 2004, 09:20:19 PM
What comics are there (preferably in collected form) that chart the end of the world as we know it?

I'm just in the mood for something like that... I've got Days Gone Bye, and all three of the Y: The Last Man books. Anything else about in a similar vein?

General / Sonic The Comic
22 June, 2004, 08:25:54 AM
Does anyone out there have any Sonic The Comic they'd be willing to part with? I remember reading it years back and I just fancy collecting a few so I can reread some of the stories. I remember artwork that I think must have been Richard Elson after a while.... In particular, I'd like any that contain a story arc which involves Metallix - never looked ebtter than in the pages of STC - or Supersonic. I'm ad fer those 'special characters' ;-)

I actually remember one Metallix story that I never finished (didn't get hold of the next few issues) which started on the Metallix planet, which was chained to Mobius. I think it only appeared every now-and-again. Anyway, a sh*tload of Metallix were gonna come and attack Sonic. Obviously I know how it ended, but I remember the artwork sparking the first time I ever gave actual thought to the writers and artists.

I also read random parts of - but never finished - a tale where Supersonic somehow got seperated from Sonic and had amnesia. He was really wimpy and pathetic, not sure what his purpose was. Would love to get hold of some of that!! Although I didn't want him to STAY like that (I loved Sonic having an utterly psychotic side) it was a cool idea.

Anything with Decap Attack too - always good fer a laugh.

I used to love this comic - gave real depth to a shallow game.

Traded a load of Batman Forever and Dredd Movie cards that I got for 10 francs in France for about 30 or 40 issues - it was the best day....

Sadly stored them with a family friend and they are destroyed :-(

Anyone?

General / PC comics
18 June, 2004, 10:27:41 AM
With the movie industry starting to make noises about people sending and receiving films online, and record companies causing as big a fuss as possible, it's only a matter of time before the 'big boys' of the comic world, Marvel and DC, start to get steamed about comics being freely available online.

For me, this whole thing is rather stupid. If I want music, I'll buy it. If I don't know if I fancy it, I'll download it first. If I don't want to pay for a video of an old film, and can't wait till it's on TV again, I'll download it. I'm not gonna go getting Spidey 2, because the expierience is bound to be lessened. I'll get the DVD and see it in the cinema. If it's worth having, it's worth buying - and buying a quality copy.

I think the same applies to comics - it's great to be able to read stuff from 20 or 30 years ago without paying ridiculous prices. It's also nice to see what's worth picking up and what isn't. In the end though, I would never (for example) download each week's prog. Holding it in my hands is part of the experience. It's just nice to be able to read early Spidey, that would cost me an arm and a leg to buy any other way, on my laptop.

Any thoughts on this among the boarders?

Just finished part 2. Goddamn. FAR better than I'd expected from a quick flick through in a shop a few months back!! Don't want to start part 3 cos I'll just keep going and then it'll be over in under an hour...

It's really something different being done with the Top Ten idea, and it's enough to make me wish Top Ten would never end!! It's such a versatile world...

Damn you Alan Moore!!! Stop retiring all over the place!

General / Durham Red question
05 June, 2004, 08:18:57 AM
Regarding the recent 'final' Durham Red. There's been a lot of criticism of it making odd leaps of logic, and her non-aging is usually cited as the biggest example...

Just been flicking through the Vermin Stars, and noticed that the whole REASON she went into suspended animation in the first place was because she didn't age and was sick of her friends dying around her...

Which, to me, implys it's always been a factor in the story. Right? Or... not?

General / Miracleman
02 June, 2004, 08:32:16 PM
I've just finished reading issue 2 of Miracleman.... Jesus H Christ!!!! WOW! Impressively fantastic I must say...

I think I see the parallels between it and the Smith/Neo fight (crashing to earth very fast) but there might be more. My question is, how much of this is there? I have....

*goes to check*

24 issue of Miracleman, a Marvelman story which has a fight between him and Kid Marvelman that's vaguely similar to the first two issues, all of which is by Alan Moore, and a 3 part thing called Apocrypha...

Anything else I need to find?

General / Thank you Mr Sullivan!
02 June, 2004, 07:37:58 AM
Just a quick note to Cat, in case he reads the board:

Thanks a lot! Arrived today - extremely chuffed with it!!

For nothing more than a reasonable donation to Comic Relief, Mr Sullivan sent me a slightly0largerthan-A4 high quality print of one of my favourite Droid Lifes, and even added a piece of the original art from the episode he found lying around too!!

Thanks! Arrived with the prog and meg, and gave me a thrillpowered afternoon for sure!

Help! / TECH STUFF!!
27 May, 2004, 06:33:54 AM
Ok, I've been quietly ignoring it, but it's finally reached a point where it's slowing me down too much.
My laptop uses XP, obviously, and while I like it (best version of Windows yet - not that that's saying too much) it has developed a rather frustrating bug. When I logon, it starts up windows, brings uip the desktop etc. A couple of programs appear, and I can navigate a little way round. But it isn't 'logged on' properly. Then it freezes, and after a total delay of between 10 seconds and 1 minutes, it makes the 'log on' noise and everything else loads up, sound control etc.

I'm loathe to uninstall it all, so just wondered if any of you clever bods out there knew what it was playing at? I've tried EVERYTHING!!

Hey ho chaps and chappettes. Thought I'd post a few pictures up here - not my pics, obviously as I appear in them - of me at the nervecentre, and the thrill archives.

Bear with me, as I don't know how big this will turn out...

Should be Jamie and myself in the room that would become the Thrill Archives, setting up. By which I mean HE is setting up, I'm waiting for something to do.http://img34.photobucket.com/albums/v102/Mrdribbles/15749e44.jpg">

Off Topic / REALLY inventive spyware
21 May, 2004, 09:17:40 PM
Hi people
I've been infected with what I can only presume is spyware. If it is, I give it full marks for being inventive and trying something different!!!

Basically, it highlights particular words in the browser and makes them links - so a random word in someone's post looks like it's been made into a link. But it's just to an ad thingy!

I'm tempted to keep it because it's so clever.... But I won't. Adaware won't work/can't find it, so any suggestions?

General / Message From Bony Fella
21 May, 2004, 09:13:44 PM
I've been instructed to post this:

Greetings to all
At this moment in time I'm on the train heading for an interview. If I get it, I'll probably be about 'properly' once again, as surfing the net is quite a large part of it. I just wanted to send greeting and make sure you're all well. Oh, and David X Brunt - I still owe you postage on those VCDs ages ago. Sendmail me and I'll sort it out when I'm next by a computer. Wish me luck!

General / 2000AD Artwork/Sketches
21 May, 2004, 08:13:41 AM
Hi all

I'm almost a student, but not quite. I also do not yet have a student grant, making me rather poor. I don't have any original artwork, or sketches by any droids. I'd LOVE to just have one (or maybe two) pieces that I could take to uni and hav on the wall in a frame. However, looking at the original art section, it's pretty much all out of my price range...

Anyone know a cheaper way of getting something? Or a place to buy them cheaper for whatever reason?

I know its unlikely... Just wondering, cos it would make my year if I had SOMETHING!!

Off Topic / The Mighty Boosh
18 May, 2004, 05:05:56 AM
Just a quick heads up - The Mighty Boosh starts tomorrow at 10.30 on BBC3. It's utter genius, with two fantastic comedians who deserve to be way more famous than they are. Hopefully this'll be their big break!
