General / New Chopper
17 May, 2004, 10:51:01 AM
I've absolutely loved the new Chopper story so far. It's been wrestling with AHAB each week as highlight of the assault. However, I've read a lot  comments recently from people who don't enjoy it, or didn't 'get' the last panel of the last part. I was just wondering, overall, what do folk think?

And if you didn't get that part, it's a CLIFFHANGER!! It's not meant to be explained fully! She wasn't meant to be there! Chopper risked EVERYTHING for nothing!!

Ahem.

Anyway, go ahead.

Isn't this just a chuffy game?

Anyway. I have the original edition, which I got rather cheap a while ago, but have only just been able to play. Problem is, there are two expansion packs which AREN'T cheap. And I wants them. Ooh, mateys do I ever wants them. Does anyone have them? If you're willing to part with them I'm sure we could arrange a trade, or cash money.
Are they copyable even? I could provide CDs and pay for postage...

Thanks!

And incidentally, in Bloodmoon, can you REALLY become a werewolf? Sounds like too much fun to be true!!

Help! / AOL removal
16 May, 2004, 07:38:53 AM
Hey ho

Erm, new problem. My family uses AOL, and I stuck it on my laptop to use the net. However, this was only going to be temporary. I've got a network hooked up now so  can just connect the already 'infected' PC and just use it's net connection. HOWEVER, I've already put AOL on this groovy little thing. As there is no uninstall option, what the fudge do I delete to get rid of it? I can do the basics, but I get the feeling it's wormed it's way into a few places.... Am I right?

Help! / HELP!! My New Laptop - a Techy Thread
14 May, 2004, 05:19:23 AM
Ok boffin types, time to prove how little I know about 'puters. I just got a new laptop, and as I get problems, I'm going to bitch at you till you help me

:-D

First big problem - it purports to be 256mb RAM, but only 192MB RAM shows up when I look at system properties.... Take it back to the shop, simple explanation, or just plain weird?

Ok, I count 3 threads so far about E3. I'm loving what I'm hearing, but what say we post it all to this one thread? It just keeps the board from getting bogged down in off-topic threads.

Off Topic / Coupling Series 4
11 May, 2004, 04:07:08 AM
...kicks off tonight at half ten on BBC 2!!

This is Good News. However, as anyone who has seen it before will know (and that should be all of you) the best character BY FAR was Jeff. Well, Richard Coyle has left, not even filming a 'goodbye' sequence...

He has been replaced, with a man who used to be on the bill. Character of 'Oliver'. He looks even more hairy and even more Welsh...

Get yer tellys on!

Film & TV / Smallville
07 May, 2004, 12:40:15 AM
I have a question. I don't expect everyone here to share my views (or even respect them, - I know it's wrong) but I can't stop watching Smallville.

A friend of mine told me to watch it, and I refused. Then I accidentally watched the pilot, and found I was hooked. Maybe I just like watching his powers develop, knowing what'll happen in the end. Maybe a part of me wants his powers, maybe it's just a darn good re-imagining.... Something has drawn me in. Just fninished series 1, starting on 2 (downloading them so I can view them in the right order.

So, anyone else found this show drew them in? No comments about the god-awful Batgirl series please. Smallville only.

And additionally, to save time, has anyone got series 2 and/or 3 on their computer? I can send CDs for them...

General / Freedom Fighters = Invasion! : The Game
01 May, 2004, 10:19:41 PM
Hm, just noticed this, and I thought I'd point it out.
Freedom Fighters is a game set in a world where the soviets got nuclear capabilities first. They expand, and eventually encircle the US. Then they invade.

The hero of the piece is Christopher Stone. He's a Brooklyn plumber.
Bill Savage is a cockney trucker.

Stone uses pistols and guns, but his standard, never leaves his side weapon is a good old fashioned monkeywrench.
Savage uses a wide variety of tactics and weaponry but his trusty shootah never leaves his side

Stone will do ANYTHING to get the commies out, and this usually involves blowing a load of them away.
Savage will do ANYTHING to get the Volgs out, and this usually involves blowing a load of them away.

You start to see what I mean?

It's like an American version of Savage!! The only two real differences I can find are that New York is the only place where action takes place in Freedom Fighters, and also Stone's hard-nosed, violent 'take no guff' attitude makes folk want to follow him, so he's well in with the resistance.

Er, that's it.
Bloody good game.

If anyone has the original progs etc from this era, I'd really appreciate scans of the 8 missing pages! Just to read them till I can get a replacement (not an easy task!!)

Cheers

General / Freedom Force
26 April, 2004, 05:22:28 PM
Just wondering if anyone has played this PC game.

You begin in a city. An old man is murdered by a Commie spy. As he is dying, he is infused with the power of ENERGY X!, an alien secret weapon that's gone awry and is now raining down on Patriot City.
It rejuvenates him and turns him into MINUTEMAN!
He soon discovers he isn't the only one who has absorbed this awesome power...
Good and bad are equally powerful, and now you must duke it out with the Commies for the future of Patriot City.

The first few levels are a bit dull but by the time you get your third hero it's so incredibly engaging that it's hard to put down. As well as being hilarious, it's a mix of RPG, strategy, action and adventure. Apparently it's a Heroic Tactical RPG. It's REALLY good, and although a sequel is on the way, this is now in bargain bins so it's WELL worth a buy.

You can even design your own hero!!

You can EVEN be a giant ant!!!!

Help! / The New Twilight Zone
26 April, 2004, 02:15:47 AM
Just saw a promo for 'Twilight Zone' new episodes... Is this a NEW new thing or an old new thing, if you know what I mean? I've only seen 'classic' Twilight Zone, and while I doubt this can be as good I'll give it a chance.

9.00PM Monday Night on the Sci-Fi channel

Presented by Forest Whittaker...

Help! / Graphics Card
24 April, 2004, 03:39:11 AM
Has anyone got a decent/half decent graphics card that they'll sell me (or trade for some choice games or DVDs - or even possibly both)?

I'm currently using a standard built-in-crappy card of some description that has never been heard of, and it runs NOTHING. I have to rely on Software mode, or the crummy version that I get if I use this thing.

All I want is to be able to run relatively modern games at a reasonable speed. The rest of my PC is beasty, so it's really frustrating when Morrowind is jerky...

Other Reviews / Prog 1385
10 April, 2004, 07:28:41 PM
Am I the first then?? Or just the first to get to the board?

Thought I wouldn't get to read this for a while cos of Easter and Oxford, but here it is!

Only scanned so far, but here's first thoughts:

Cover - Nice, though I'm not sure about Karyn's hair on it... Oh well, nice pose, and the hair does add a hint of colour at least. Stands out, though the logo is SLIGHTLY obscured. Can live with it though, it's still mostly visible.

Droid Life - Genius. P14 got a Future Shock commisioned..... Woo!

General / Prog Sizes
06 April, 2004, 08:36:50 AM
I've been a bit odd recently, and started a large number of on-topic threads compared to off topic (mainly to keep good folk like Logan here, and to make sure they don't hate me!!)

This is no different. I quote from 2000ad Review:

Although it?s only been three months since the beginning of 2004, there have already been changes aplenty at the Galaxy's Greatest Comic. The first of these was the change in the size of the comic, although considering the number of times this has happened over the years perhaps people shouldn?t have been all that surprised. I have to say that, for myself, I was always slightly unnerved when I returned to the pages of 2000AD to find that it was now more approximate to the size of an American comic book. Perhaps it will only appeal to fans of a certain age, but I always liked the size and shape of 2000AD in the eighties, and I always thought British comics seemed better with their own style rather than trying to ape the American style of production. It also seems, to me at least, that the change in canvas sizes gives the artists involved more room to experiment and fit in their actual work. Alongside the size of the comic, the artists and writers credit boxes changed as well. Just as soon as you?ve gotten used to something?Ah well, I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough.

Well, how do you fine folk feel about the size of the prog. I was never TOO bothered, but if I'm honest I prefer the more 'American' size. It just fits in my hands easier, and feels more like a comic for me. Ok, ok, and the 80s style don't fit in my bloody scanner...

Thoughts?

General / Synnamon VS Dead Men Walking
05 April, 2004, 08:05:27 AM
Oh, and how on EARTH could anyone seriously think Synnamon was worse than Dead Man Walking?

Boo Cook art or no Boo Cook art, DMW was the steamingest pile of wank it's ever been my misfortune to read.

Dudley said this on another thread, and it go me wondering exactly how people felt about DMW. Yes, I know this is a bit late, but.... Well, I thought DMW was better by far. I didn't MIND Synnamon, but DMW seemed superior.

DMW had zombies, a fun enough plot (at least as competent as Synnamon), Boo Cook art, a lead character who wasn't typical shapely female, big tits, long hair (though not that far off), a cool idea behind it... And the main character died.

Synnamon was ok, but had little or none of the above.

Thoughts? And please, not just gratuitous bashing of either strip!!

Who's going to move the archives?

Jamie - I'll mail you later, but I'm almost certainly available for the first week, POSSIBLY the second, but not sure yet. Until the Tuesday in the second anyway. I'll confirm.

So is anyone else going to pitch in if they can?

General / Siku on Dredd again?
01 April, 2004, 06:32:44 AM
Just a few thought that have come now I've finished scanning Meatmonger in.

First time round, I'll be honest, speaking about the artwork only: I hated it.
Rereading it, I find that I actually really like it. It seems to be 'suggesting' things rather well, leaving a lot to your imagination. Yes, some parts are sloppy, but with a little tidying up it would make a nice alternative style.

I know few others share this view, but would it be SO bad to have Siku draw a Dredd in the Meg? Help get the style slightly more defined, and then see what you think? Would people completely hate this or be willing to read it? What do/did you think about Siku's Dredd?

My opinion: Surprisingly catchy. Bit different. But wouldn't want it as the regular in 2000AD.
