General / Blood Of Satanus II - Parody or bad?
11 March, 2004, 07:26:10 PM
Well, reading it back, I see the point people are making! It DOES read like he's done an enjoyable tale, while mocking what happens if others use his characters.

I'm sorry, but people don't just get THAT bad, especially when we've seen recent work with much better dialogue etc. I think he's having a laaaaaarf.

What do you think?

General / Cookie?
11 March, 2004, 07:11:14 AM
I (like a lot of you it would seem) liked the Whatever happened to.... Cookie? strip in the last Meg. But (like a few of you it would seem) hadn't encountered Cookie previously.... I get the idea, but am curious about the specifics.

Anyone care to fill me in?

Howdy
As has been recently demonstrated by Krusty, many of us have never met each other. It might be quite funny to post pictures of ourselves up here (only if we want, of course!!) and get insulted by everyone else!
I would, but I don't have a good photo

:-P

Seriously, I will when I get a decent image hosting thing set up.

You might remember, a while back, I was trying to place a movie that I remembered from years ago. It eventually turned up in a school exercise book, making me realise it may not have been after all, despite the graphic memories in my head.

I recently found out it was definitely my idea years ago... We acted some of it out in school. I found my old notes, and memories came flooding back. It was good, but we got into trouble for swearing and shouting.

Anyway, I started writing it as a script, but couldn't quite do it. So I started as a novel! I'm just wondering if anyone would mind looking over the Prologue (and any other parts that I feel are 'less crap') and offer constructive criticism...

I've mainly rattled through it, but now I'm returning to the start instead of continuing to press ahead, and redarfting each section over and over until it works. But so far I haven't got very far. The prologue is set towards the end of the story, chronologically, which is rather confusing. But after it, part of the story runs along in the past, and another part continues from where the prologue ends.

Oh, and the images in it are blatently stolen from Anderson's Satan. So don't get mad. I'm going to change it, but not yet because I like it!

Anyone?

Off Topic / RAM question...?
23 February, 2004, 07:00:57 PM
Er... help?

My girlfriend has just upgraded her PC (ok... I did it, with the help of male members of her family) but just the RAM. Strange thing is, only HALF the amount we've put in is recognised by the PC...

Why??

The Task:

Ok, we all know who I'm talking about. He's one of the most popular characters in 2000AD - but let's face it, he was designed in the 70s! I'm SURE that you could improve him....
We're looking for overall look for the most part, but things that you'd change with his world to go with your new look Dredd will be a handy bonus!
Either written or drawn entries will be accepted! Give it a go!

The Prizes:

There will be 5 prizes - I'll let you know what they are soon - of various quality. The only one I can confirm before this evening when I get home is Top Ten Book 1.

The Closing Date:

This comp is going to run for a month to let everyone have a bash, and to try and make sure as few people as possible miss it! So the closing date is the 11th March 2004. Noon.

Have fun!

Off Topic / Broadband music
11 February, 2004, 07:03:01 PM
VERY off topic (promise I'll start something on-topic soon!!) but I'm at Bony Fella's house, and while I have the PC to myself, I'm abusing his broadband/CD writer (we can't get broadband). What music should I get? My mind has gone blank. I like most kinds, from old style RnB to 70s metal to modern metal to country. Everything gets a chance.
What bands should I give a try? What do you like that you think everyone should listen to? And can anyone name songs that you hear and go 'Oh yeah... I know this one!'?

Hey y'all
Being a wee nipper, I need help! I'm off to University in September, and I've got unconditional offers from Lampeter and from Staffordshire. Lampeter is second best in the country for Philosophy according to inner circles, wheres Staffordshire is less so. But Lampeter is in the middle of nowhere, and while part of me would really like that, it could be a wee bit tedious, being unable to visit people easily.

What do you think is better for me to do? (don't worry, I won't be basing my final decision on what you say, I just want to know what people with a little more experience in these matters think - not to be cheeky!)

The other thing is, does anyone live in Stoke on Trent? Cos if I went to Staffordshire I'd be going with my girlfriend, meaning we'd have to rent a place and I have a few questions about housing...

That's all basically... If you want any other details, I'll clarify!

Laters!

General / What's happened to us?
04 February, 2004, 03:33:01 AM
Over the last week or so, there have been more and more 'lets just shout scream and argue' threads popping up on the board.
It never used to be like this! I'm sure it'll improve, but to try and safeguard against it getting this silly in the future, maybe we should talk about it!
Without blaming specific individuals or behaviour, where did it all go wrong??

Off Topic / Family Guy/Futurama News
03 February, 2004, 12:30:28 AM
I know this isn't strictly related, but there are quite a few fans round here, so I thought you might like to know (if you don't already)

Both shows were cancelled by the US TV network Fox. Futurama was treated badly from Season 2 onwards, often being cancelled in favour of football and not shown again unlike The Simpsons etc.
This meant they had a solid backlog of episodes to show, and thought the show would survive on reruns and what they had left. Matt Groening was blocked from making more, and also blocked from making his movie trilogy like he wanted.

HOWEVER, Cartoon Network have got the rights to show Futurama episodes, and if they can get the rights to NEW Futurama episodes then they'll make them. However at the moment these still rest with bloomin' Fox. However this could change in the next few months - so Futurama may not be dead!

Now, on an EVEN MORE positive note, Family Guy

The show drew ok ratings (generally seen as a Simpsons rip-off) and it wasn't till after it was cancelled and it came out on DVD that sales EXPLODED as people realised just how fantastic, surreal and original it was. It's series are some of the biggest selling DVDs ever in both the UK and US, and almost the best selling TV show DVDs ever in both countries too.

Fox contacted Seth Macfarlene and comissioned an entire new series, with options on 3 more. This makes it the first TV show ever to be cancelled and then resurrected on the strength of DVD sales! In a recent episode with Seth Green (Chris Griffin) he revealed that they had been working on them since last Autumn. Family Guy will be back at the end of the year!

Thats it... I'll be quiet again now!

Woo!

Off Topic / Can you help me name this film???
19 January, 2004, 09:04:18 PM
I saw a filom years ago, with a mate, and loved it. It was really, really cool, but I can't remember the name of it, and my mate barely remembers it (he suggested I'm dreamt it and told him about it) but I clearly remember watching it.

Plot goes (could be a bit wrong and missing bits as I've forgotten lots)

A young lad and his mates, early 20s, about 300 years ago in some distant land or other finds a buried temple. They explore it and find that it's Sumarian or similar (they don't learn that now, it comes later). The mmain lad accidentally knocks over a strange egg-like statue about 4 feet high, and it breaks open releasing a weird energy-thing that 'zaps' through all his friend, incinerating them, and then 'zaps' the boy. It doesn't kill him, but rather stays, posessing him. It's a demon that was summoned by accident by the Sumarians (ow whoever) and needed a human host to survive outside of Hell. However, in it's search for a suitable host it killed people like it killed the lad's companions, so they were forced to contain it in a spiritual prison or something, which they'd broken. It was looking for... something about personalities that had a wide range of emotions easily reachable? In any case, it split the lad into 5 identical bodies, each with a part of the lad and a part of the demon in. One represented his anger AND compassion, and therefore had a fiery part of the demon that logic (?) and had strange aerial abilities... and I forget the third. The fourth I'm certain of - it was his hate, and all the evil thought that he'd got, and this got the demon's core. The fifth was him as he has been, but no longer human... a 'control' body if you will. He wasn't possessed, but wasn't normal anymore. He had no bizarre powers. The shock of this experience made them very 'trippy', and they didn't notice the 5th guy, as he didn't notice them as he stumbled out. The rest seperated, trying to find a normal life. None of them could age, and they were practically invunerable - the demon had built up a solid wall of protection. The 5th went back to the village where they lived, but was cast oput when it was noticed that he didn't age, ironically calling him posessed or some such...

I'm summarising here, you don't find it out in this order in the movie I' don't think.
They live for hundreds of years, each growing different. If one of them kills someone (as is occasionally necessary) they all feel pain, and also know instantly where the other are for some reason... Think it was explained in the film.

Anyhoo, to cut a long story short, the 'nasty' one was held in check by the presence of the third one, which I've just remembered was basically happiness) and about 1970 he murders that one, and absorbs that demonic energy, making him stronger, and mremoving his inhibitions. He raises an army of the dead I think, and looks poised to destroy the world, because as he is an opposite version of the rest (they feel compelled to help, not hurt) when people die, he becomes more powerful. So wiping out humanity would turn him into basically a God (there was also something about taking over heaven and hell)

I'm fuzzy here, though I remember an outstanding fight, and when he's weakened, the fifth guy (who the other had to find) absorbs them all, and becomes one being again. He uses his 'human' nature to control the evil, though he has all the abilities shown throughout the film. He becomes a new superhero, and hey presto - loadsa sequellage possibilities...

It was REALLY cool, and while I'd like to believe I was capable of dreaming the idea, I don't think I did. Anyone seen it?

Help!!

General / Huuuuuuge telly!!!
17 January, 2004, 09:55:45 PM
I've got a huge telly - about 100"!!! And it cost me ?23.50!!!
I'm not selling, just boasting ;-P and seeing what people think. It's a build-it-yourself projector kit, which I got on ebay, and it's SO fun! It cost:

?10 for the plans and the fresnel lens
?5 for a mirror
?5 for cardboard
?3.50 for paint

Basically you build a box, fix it all together as you're shown in the plans, and the image from the TV is magnified through the fresnel lens and onto a wall! Yes it only works in the dark, yes it's back to front at first (a bit of quick thinking and a mirror sorted that) and no it isn't totally perfect quality, but it's better than my old TV was (and about the same as the one I'm using for this) and it's soooo nifty! Gamecube games that cover my wall, DVDs cinema style. Beats paying ?2500 or something obscene...

Ahem, ok, I'm calm now. Didn't expect it to work was all, and felt like telling people. It's really cool! It took me 25 minutes to make!!

Done now, promise...

Hello! I'm new to the board, but I've been reading it for the last 3 or 4 months, and been getting tooth regularly for 6 or 7 (now a subber). I first found tooth way back in 95 or so when I was 10 (I'm 19 this Friday) and a friend of mine showed me.

I forget exactly what prog it was, but it had the fatty games in I think. I've never really bothered to come here much, but I'm on a year out before uni to try and earn money (kind of hard when you have no job) and I'm online a lot, so I thought it was worth it!! A few people mentioning eBay has caused me to dabble a bit.

That's about it! I know most of you from reading your posts here, and you're mostly a fine body of people! Glad to be among you... please don't hurt me...
