Film & TV / Re: New Dredd Film Greenlit!...

"Tom Cruise seems interested in the role. We hope he can come on board as we feel he has just the right facial profile and ironic humor to fit the role."

Plus, he lives his life based on the writing of a sci-fi author, so he's perfect!

"all the negative comments seem to have almost all been aimed at the fact he's drawing Dredd rather than any shortcomings in the art itself"

For me, the problem is that he's drawing THIS Dredd tale, and that's only because the art jars against what's already gone on in this particular thread. Otherwise, as I've said elsewhere, I think the guy's perfectly suited to the character, as long as he can stop being so Manga with the faces.

"though it has its moments"

I think it has plenty of good moments, frankly. This artist is not well-matched to this particular strip, but I think he could have a long and fruitful career in 2000 AD. His storytelling ability is first-rate - although I'm not a massive fan of some elements of his style, it's always easy to follow the story, and that's something that's very definitely not true of all 2000 AD artists.

I think if the guy toned down the Manga influences a little (HUGE EYES!), he could easily slip into the gap left by Cam Kennedy.

"its a bit annoying that i have for whatever reason missed a huge chunk of storyline."

You didn't miss much. Still, you can buy back issues of EEs from this website, at three quid each plus postage.

Yeah, whatever. How about five quid, including first-class postage, for all three? They're in read-once (and barely once at that) condition.

I thought it was terrible, and it's pretty much decided for me that my EE sub is going to lapse. I'm sure when I get my arse in gear the three EEs in question will end up on evilBay (along with the scarily large pile of 2000 AD spares that appear to be taking over my office), unless someone here wants to offer me something for them.

"iKlear - you can get it as a spray and re-useable cloths, or individually packed disposable wipes. I got a pack containing both that should last me about a year for £14.99, although I suspect you could get 'em cheaper if you shopped around."

Just make sure you get the newer stuff. The old stuff wrecks displays in a major way. (Witness: my 23" ACD, which now has a large dark patch at the top-right corner. Thanks, iKlear!)

Alternatively, power down the screen, leave it off for at least a couple of hours, and use a very slightly damp cloth, very, very lightly.

"I need Firewire to use an external as a boot disk"

Intel Macs can boot from USB. With older ones, you're screwed, however. Maybe you should just grab a cheap firewire drive from somewhere. Alternatively, you could, I suppose, run a Mac in target mode, and then clone from a USB drive connected to another Mac, but that would probably be adding too many things that can go wrong into the chain.

"Is it as simple as booting from the external, wiping the internal drive and copying the back up image over?"

Yes, but check that each machine will boot from the back-up first. Also, I've never used CCC for this, but have had success in the same situation with SuperDuper!

"bring back some the ealrier stories.
Ace Garp, Moonrunners, Mean Team,"

Without Belardinelli, no point in those ones, especially ACE Trucking.

I wouldn't miss the tag-lines, but things like this cost money, and I'd sooner see the cash invested elsewhere.

"FOTL wasnt that well received when it came out but as John says without it we wouldnt have had Cadet and the stories that followed"

Mm. Also, on rereading it, it's the awful colouring that grates, but the story and inks are fine. While America is a great standalone, the subsequent stories work, as opposed to, say, Chopper, post-Song of the Surfer.

Probably for reasons of time (his) or costs (his clients' wallets). I've always liked his b/w stuff (Chopper, Dredd, etc.), and if he's coloured, it needs to be subtle. The colouring in America 2 is just dreadful.

I'm still hoping to see Top Dog in the next Strontium Dog collection, despite the chances of that being, ooh, about 1 in 46 billion.

"That is weird - they show up in the source code via Firefox as they look on the web page, but in Notepad, most of them show up as boxes, and in Notepad2, they all show up as unknown characters."
That'll be because some apps are unicode-aware and some aren't. In TextEdit on the Mac, every single character shows up fine.
