Many thanks to Ming, for the lovely job of scanning this issue for me. Took me a week or so more to clean the whole thing up due to some health issues, but here it is for you to enjoy.

The very last issue of BEM - By Martin Lock - 1982

As I mentioned before, the last two issues of BEM (35,36) were printed in the U.S. , and published by Hal Shuster (New Media), with copies being sent back for sale in the U.K. NMP ceased trading, and that proved to be the end for this great zine.

Issue 36 cover by Bryan Talbot

Features an overview of the strips in 2000 AD by Frank Plowright, and an interview with Arthur Ranson talking with Luke Rainford.

And as always, you can find the archive here:

This is the penultimate issue of BEM Fanzine- By Martin Lock - 1982

The last two issues of BEM (35,36) were printed in the U.S. , and published by Hal Shuster (New Media), with copies being sent back for sale in the U.K. NMP ceased trading, and that proved to be the end for this great zine.

I think issue 36 is quite rare, and I've never seen a copy. If anyone has one, and would like to sell it to me (or even just scan it themselves for the archive) I'd love to hear from you.

This issue has a cover by Kevin O'Neill, an interview with Pat Mills, and a look at (with script breakdown and concept sketches) Nemesis the Warlock.

Off Topic / Fanzine Archive Launched
26 October, 2015, 02:22:41 PM
Okay, a little later in the year than I had hoped, but I think I've ironed out enough of the bugs, so that I can officially launch the zine archive site.

If I'd waited until all the pdf's were uploaded you wouldn't be seeing this until Christmas, but I think there's enough there now to wet your appetite about what's to come.

Right now, you can read issues of: AFTER IMAGE, AKA, APOCALYPSE, ARKEN SWORD, BEM, DIRECT CURRENTS, COMIC MEDIA NEWS, FANTASY ADVERTISER, FANTASY TRADER, FASTER THAN LIGHT, GRAPHIC SENSE, OGRE, ORPHEUS, and THE PANELHOUSE.

Over the next few months, I'll be posting all the other issues of these that I have, and other titles too.

Once again: Many, MANY thanks to everyone who has helped make this possible, and especially to all the Editors for their generosity.

I hope you enjoy reading these zines. Please feel free to leave comments and brickbats on the 'letters of Comment' page at the site, but please bear in mind that I have a fragile ego, and that I bruise easily  ;)

Off Topic / UK Comics Fanzine Archive
24 June, 2015, 10:00:33 AM
I'm going to be putting this on as many comics related boards as I can find. I really want this to work, and I want to go about it in the right way  :)

"For several months now, I've been gathering and scanning every UK comics fanzine that I've been able to buy or have loaned to me. The intention being, to create a Fanzine archive / repository, celebrating all of the brilliant work that was produced in the 60's 70's and 80's.

Even the most successful of these zines never had a huge print run, but were very important to the people involved, and helped launch many artists and writers into the comics industry itself.

Being by their very nature quite rare now, they don't tend to come up for sale that often, and when they do, they tend to be quite expensive.

The aim of the site is not to damage the collectors market in any way (viewing on screen will never be as good as holding an issue of any publication in your hand, IMHO), but to provide an opportunity for old and new fans to enjoy an insight into a world of printed zines, which, while not being as immediate as the blogs and boards we have today, was just as vibrant and immersive a way to talk about comics.

I've been busy contacting as many editors / publishers as possible, to get their permission to use their work, and have been amazed by the positive response.

The pdf's I'm producing from the original zines will have all personal addresses removed. Partly because after thirty odd years they will no doubt be out of date, and partly because people may not want to be associated with views they held at the time (or indeed, be traceable).
If you were a contributor to any of the zines being featured, the option will be available to have any and all of your work removed from the site.

And there is the main reason for this post really. If you were involved with fandom back then, but have no wish for your work to be included in this archive, please let me know. Equally, if you are happy to be included, I'd love to hear from you and be given formal permission.

My email address is:

Thanks for reading,
Dave."

Classifieds / British Comics Fanzines wanted
26 December, 2014, 07:21:34 PM
Hi, I'm looking for British Comics Fanazines, mainly from the 1980's when I was involved with the scene myself. Due to the short print runs, these don't even turn up on ebay that often, so I'm wondering if there's anyone here who want to sell theirs privately?

I'm interested in anything from the semi-pro Zines (like Fantasy Advertiser / Hellfire /  B.E.M) to Grass roots
Zines (like Black and White / AKA). I'm especially looking for copies of CEREBRO (The X-Men fanclub zine).

Thanks.

David Price.
