Drunken Highland shenanigans once more a possibility...

http://www.highlandheartevents.co.uk/inverness-comiccon/
https://www.facebook.com/invernesscomiccon/

Initial investigations turned up that it was sold out, but it may be that the tickets haven't even went on sale yet- not sure on this.

On the surface it looks like another film/ tv celeb event due to the guests announced so far, but I sent their fb a somewhat cheeky message asking if there would be any actual comics related stuff/ creators there and got confirmation that there would be a few familiar faces there. Hopefully there might be more, though it seems they are still in the organisation phase. 'Twould be a rather dull day out if'n none of you peeps can make it. Hell, even we get some sun round about July (sometimes).

Music / Best Bassline Ever...
24 August, 2014, 10:38:25 PM
Anyone got some love for the guitarists phat-fingering siblings?

Dunno about greatest evers- too many good ones too choose from, But I love the bassline from Flux of Pink Indians 'Myxomatosis', every time I hear it, up goes the volume. Simple as hell- but bouncy and catchy.

Creative Common / Creative Common Cwestion...
07 November, 2010, 11:45:57 PM
Was there a thread for 2000ad re-panelled pictures (taking a 2000ad panel and re-imagining it), or was it a competition theme, or is it a figment of my imagination?
#7
I took some time out from drawing lots of little panels to do a quick chick-pic today. It was nice just to be able to breathe on the page a bit. It's not anything like a finished piece of that, but it's served it's purpose (to give my head a break) so it probably won't get any further.
My rendition of Captain Sarita, though I tried to make her a bit more Arabic featured around the nose and mouth to make her a bit more exotic- I really love Steve Yeowell's art a lot, but I'll concede his women are sometimes a bit 'samey'. Anyhoo- like it, hate it or go 'meh'!

Books & Comics / 2000ad Action Special
26 October, 2009, 02:19:52 AM
I got this from a charity shop for a mere £1 Scots the other day- bought it out of curiosity as I wasn't aware of it's existence.
There's some really good stuff in here- Sean Philips' art on Steel Claw, Jim Baikie's Cursitor Doom was pretty nifty as well. Mark Millar's The Spider was a good read too- I liked the bit where
Tri-man's costume is stitched to his skin 'to protect his secret identity'
. I liked this. A lot.
Best of all was Doctor Sin with John Smith and John Burns. A good read- tongue in cheek tale where Sin comes across as being a bit, well, mental!
"Wherever I go in this village there is waywardness and degeneracy"- sounds like where I live
. The artwork from John Burns was brilliant as usual.

Anyone else get this? Presumably I'll be one of the few who missed it...

Help! / Hive Mind- Illustrator help...
22 August, 2009, 04:58:52 PM
I just got my hands on Illustrator 8.0.1 and installed it yesterday. It seemed to install ok but I'm having difficulties getting it to start. I even tried reinstalling. Same thing happens.

I know this is a very old version of Illustrator (but it's all I have), I noticed that there is some sort of script to install for Windows NT users- could this be a compatibility issue as I am on XP (Home and I think I installed Service Pack 2 IIRC)?

I know there a few folks on here who have a fair bit of experience with Illustrator, so I'm wondering if anyone could please offer a bit of advice with getting it going. Thanks in advance for any advice and assistance!

Anyone know when the voting proper for the Eagle awards?

Also, does anyone have some sort of list of the final nominations, or is that secret until voting starts?

General / Life Spugs because...
04 March, 2009, 08:00:25 PM
All the positivity on the other thread is making me feel a bit sick.
So on with some good old fashioned whining and bitching...

Life Spugs because oor bands latest split cd release ('Northern Bastards: Pict Punk Split') looks like being derailed due to a certain controversy over one of the other bands in on it. Not entirely undeserved like, but irritating all the same. Just a couple of weeks before we were ready to self release and play a couple of gigs with the other bands on it. Everything is up in the air now and we've worked damned hard on the cd design as well as recording our tracks and shmoozing with bands and gig promoters to make it all happen.

Cheer me up by making me laugh at all your misery- which I hope is far more serious than mine (nothin' personal you understand)!

Help! / Military people....
18 October, 2007, 08:45:42 PM
I've got this military type jacket with a badge on it. I got it out of a second hand shop quite a while ago, and I've always wondered where it came from and what the badge was all about. It's obviously some sort of Commie badge, but I wondered if any of the armed forces personnel who frequent this site would have come across it before? My uninformed guess (and the heavily quilted nature of the jacket) says eastern Europe, perhaps the Balkans or something? Any Ideas?

Help! / Hivemind guidance...
22 August, 2007, 07:35:16 PM
Odd request really-
I find myself having to resign a job to take up a better offer elsewhere. Being a relative 'newbie' to the so called 'professions', I've never had to write a formal letter of resignation. But I have to write one tonight, handing my notice in tomorrow. The only jobs I've ever quit before were minimum wage manual shite where I took great delight in saying:
"Take this job and shove it...!"

I can't burn any bridges here, as I'll still be working for the same company one day a week in another post, and I have no idea what a letter of resignation should be like. Can anyone offer any advice?

Off Topic / The 'THANK YOU' thread...
14 July, 2007, 09:03:11 PM
rather than necropost in the comps thread, I thought I could start a new thread for folks to use in thanking other boarders for whatever they need to thank them for.

Anyway, my horror grab bag for the caption comp arrived today, so a big THANK YOU to Lord Byron for the goodies- top stuff (including a comic with a Bryan Talbot cover and some Ade Bamforth artwork inside). Must have cost you an arm and a leg all in with the postage-

The rewards for your generosity shall be in whatever afterlife you believe in (i'll gie ye a scone when I bake!). Nice one.

Help! / W.R. Logan (or anyone else who knows...)
06 July, 2007, 01:07:23 PM
A while ago you put up some Planet of the Damned pics, and I went and started looking around the Starlord site at watchthestars.sevenpennynightmare.
One of the artists working on that strip was a bloke called Azpiri- (fantastic).

Is this Alphonso Azpiri?
