Creative Common / Got Skillz ?
29 June, 2015, 07:42:10 PM
Hi All :)
There is a zarjaz competition ago over here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/blackhole2.0/
The 2000ad Review Page
"You may have notice a riffle in this page, a mere Quasi-shock of brilliantly blue proportions. That's because Tharg's forgotten brother, Thurgg has been around recently, causing some disturbance.
But what does he look like? What craft did he arrive in? Does he plan to make a brotherly reunion with Tharg or try to take over (let's hope not)?
I would like the talented Terrans amoung you to come up with a design for Thurgg. What do you think he would look like? You can make him as you like, but obviously with a hint of Tharg about him - they are brothers after all!
The best one with the most likes will win a graphic novel from 2000ad's online store of your choice, so get thinking and drawing! The competition closes on 1st August, so you have plenty of time. I will post up ones I think are good too from time to time.
The only rules are not to be too rude and to post the images only on this
link so I can keep track of them all. Get drawing, Terrans! "

Can anyone beat Alex Mines's zarjaz drawing? Get scribbling, Earthlets!

Film Discussion / DREDD - THE SEQUEL
09 July, 2012, 09:39:05 PM
Dredd 2 - The sequel.
Here is my overview of events which could feature in the next film. it is a loose interpretation of events but I feel there is a bit of substance here and could work. But what works in comics doesn't necessarily work in film.

  • PSI Division report Apocalypse coming (leads into DREDD 3 - Dark Judges)
  • Judge Child Quest begins.
    • Dredd picks team (RICO, Lopez, Anderson(?) plus 3 other Judges (lesser know ones who will be killed).
    • Dredd and the team encounter President Booth (with snap, crackle and pop and the other robots) on their travels in the first encounter.
      • Dredd journeys to Texas City where he finds out that a man called Prosser in a township called Ab has the whereabouts of the Judge Child.
      • Prosser victim of the Jigsaw Disease sees Lopez killed (sacrificed) in order to obtain information the Angel Gang have Owen Krysler (Judge Child) and have him in the Mutie Township of Xanadu.
        • Team stumbleupon Fargoville. Dredd finds Eustace Fargo and some of his past.Possibly encounter Tweak being held by Mutie/Alien offworld Slavers.
        • Angel Gang member Fink kills off one of the Judges but inadvertently leads the Team to Angel Gang. Fink escapes.
          • Judges find the Angel Gang only to see they have already fled. Dredd sees the boy and sees only evil leaves the boy where he is.
          • Dredd sends a message back to MC-1 where he recieves confirmation the Dark Judges are already reaking havoc.

QuoteWarner Bros. has hired Brad Peyton, who helmed the hit family adventure "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," to direct and rewrite "Lobo," the live-action movie based on DC Comics' ultraviolent intergalactic bounty hunter, Deadline reports.

Guy Ritchie had been attached to direct the adaptation in late 2009 but left the project to develop the blockbuster "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." Don Payne ("Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," "Thor") wrote the most recent draft. Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producing.

Created by Roger Stern and Keith Giffen, Lobo debuted in 1983's "Omega Men" #3 as a self-centered villain with a penchant for mindless violence, but he gained popularity in the 1990s as a parody of Wolverine, Punisher and other anti-heroes. Although Lobo has appeared in animated form on "Superman: The Animated Series," "Justice League" and "Legion of Super Heroes," this would mark his live-action, and big-screen, debut.

Payne's PG-13 script reportedly followed Lobo as he pursued four fugitives to Earth, where he partnered with a teenaged girl to stop them. Whether any of that will remain in Peyton's rewrite is, naturally, unknown at this point.

PG13 for the galaxies bastiche bounty hunter ? I will be following this with a lot of anticipation just hope whoever gets to direct this does the main man proud.

Greg Staples had posted this on Facebook and some of these are hilarious.

Welcome to the board / Forum Etiquette
21 February, 2012, 06:49:14 PM
Why the percentage (a good percentage) on these boards partake in healthy discussion there are a few of late who find it neccessary to use a plethora of expletives to underline their message.

I can understand some topics and subject matter are vehemently and intensely discussed but there really is little need for the profanities some are using. Not everyone on these boards are adult and even so you should be thinking about what your conveying before peppering the forum with your swearing.

Im not a prude by all means swearing has its place but just asking you to think before you commit to posting them.

Thanks Kowalksy.

Off Topic / Graphene - Noble Winning Technology
06 October, 2010, 12:00:48 PM
QuoteTwo scientists have shared this year's Nobel Prize for Physics for their "groundbreaking" work on a material with amazing properties.

Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, both at Manchester University, UK, took the prize for research on graphene.

Graphene is a flat sheet of carbon just one atom thick; it is almost completely transparent, but also extremely strong and a good conductor of electricity.

Its unique properties mean it could have a wide array of practical uses.

Full Article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-11476301

Graphene Communications: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YbS-YyvCl4

Its a radical breakthrough in technology and in communications we could well see the "Minority Report" menus and screens sooner that you think.

As far as Televisions go, flat screen TVs seem redundant or they will be, instead you will have whole walls in your houses coated with graphene and to that end aesthetics such as wallpaper, ambient moods and colours could change at the switch of button.
The HOLODECK scenario is also possible with this material, simply turning rooms into getaway places and locales.

Film & TV / Judge Dredd TV Series - Practical?
23 September, 2010, 08:54:46 PM
I was thinking how practical a Judge Dredd TV Series would be to commission.
If costumes were created for the Judges in the upcoming film and for the citizens (a good representation) then surely they could be reused in a TV Series ?

Plus with the CGI being created for the film and with the software, modellers, and cgi on the fly being pretty quick and relatively cheap to produce why not ?

Theres a rich abundance of material some of which already could be tweaked in no time ready for a one hour slot.

Plus the story boards are already created and to a point direction too.

Just a thought :)

General / Movie Update - John Wagner Facebook
28 July, 2010, 08:48:30 PM
QuoteWent up to London to see Alex Garland, Pete Travis and the DNA team today and look over what they've been up to. They've found some nice locations in South Africa and with some great CGI are a long way towards creating a convincing Mega-City One. They're keen to include a lot of Mega-City background detail - good graffiti, for instance - and while I can provide a lot of it I'll also be happy to pass on any good fan suggestions to them. What odd sort of shopfronts would there be - e.g. Male Pregnancy Advice Bureau - what odd sights might you see on the streets or in the home. All suggestions welcome!

Hope John doesent mind me posting this here.

General / Judge Dredd Script With Spoliers?
21 July, 2010, 12:12:01 AM
My little daily foray into finding just a snippet of the Dredd movie to keep me going till the next big announcement may have come up trumps. According to the Playlist theres quite a depth of info relating to the plot.

That is if you believe it or not.

http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/07/details-alex-garlands-judge-dredd.html

Possible spoiler
MEGA CITY ONE is plagued by a new drug, SLO-MO, it slow's everything down and producers visually stunning images, with time that moves at one percent normal.

Dredd has a rookie shadowing him for the night (CASSANDRA ANDERSON), she has some special abilities that the CHIEF JUDGE thinks could be very useful, however her JUDGE APTITUDE test scored just put her below a pass. It's up to DREDD to see if she has what it takes to be a Judge and one night to do so.

The pair investigate a multiple homicide in PEACH TREE BLOCK. A place ran and controlled by the MA-MA CLANG. After busting one of Ma-Ma's henchmen, Ma-Ma takes control and locks the entire place down, she seals the place with concrete shutters -- and no way out. Ma-Ma also tell's everyone within the block to KILL THE JUDGES, or their families will suffer. Ma-Ma is the ultimate force in Peach Trees, more than the law, so everyone complies. Dredd and Anderson have to survive, holding onto their prisoner and try and escape the block. They begin on the ground floor and work their way up the 200 or so floors.
More can be be found on that link above.

This could be a scene right out of the pages of Dredd.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/us_and_canada/10504627.stm

QuoteFormer hot dog speed-eating champion Takeru Kobayashi has been arrested at this year's event in New York.

The six-time champion, who did not compete in this year's event, was arrested as he tried to get on the stage after the competition.

Mr Kobayashi had refused to sign a contract with the speed-eating body Major League Eating and was barred from the event at Coney Island.

Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won the contest for the fourth year running.

Mr Kobayashi, the thin Japanese contender who smashed all previous US records in 2001, jumped a barrier and tried to get up on the stage while the crowd chanted: "Let him eat!"
