Books & Comics / Re: Keanu's Kickstarter comic
« on: 02 September, 2020, 01:59:42 PM »
I was just reading about this on Bleeding Cool. According to Boom the idea is to use an established platform (KS) and a big celebrity to get comics into the hands of folks who don't usually read them, and get said folks into comic shops. Will be interesting to see if it works.

My voucher disappeared so I sent a message through support.2000ad.com and they restored it within a few days. Of course, it's the 31st (and a bank holiday) now, but it can't hurt to ask.

That's good to hear. I seem to remember one of the manga bundles had similar compression issues and was eventually fixed. Nearly bought this yesterday the moment I saw the thrill-mail but I guess I'll wait and see.

Amazing work, guys. Looking forward to catching up on the bits I missed, and that Dead Man reveal tomorrow!

Sorry for bringing down the tone by bringing up White Fire

Fox I love your podcast but you really need a better standard of guests, this Conrad guy is super gross and totally unprofessional.

JK great job guys! Top marks to Conrad for keeping up the Keef Ripley kayfabe (Keefabe?)

I had never heard of R.O.B. the robot before - I guess he wasn’t widely distributed in the UK - so found this pretty fascinating: The Story of R.O.B. the Robot | Gaming Historian

I was a Sega kid, so the "Do me a favour, plug me into a Sega" ad in Prog 655 brought back fond memories of the TV version. Although it must be said it doesn’t really work in print.

Also, a 24 hour Starlord Twitch stream is mad mental crazy and I will be there for, oh, at least 20 minutes of it ;)

That was a really fun listen and made a very stressful day at work pass a little quicker. Thanks guys, and stay safe!

Best Month: January

Best Writing: John Wagner.
For sowing seeds for future storylines (like introducing Kraken and bringing back PJ Maybe) and allowing Chopper to survive Oz - we all love a good anti-hero, but Nemesis and Deadlock are total dicks now, and sometimes you just want someone to root for, you know? And for that reason:

MVP: Chopper.

Best (and Worst) Art: John Hicklenton.
Grotesque, disturbing, frequently incomprehensible and generally unpleasant to look at. And yet utterly distinctive, dynamic, vibrant, exciting, and occasionally, absolutely iconic. I hate him. He's a genius.

I assume you're joking about the "made-up alien language Kantanka" - I find it hard to believe someone who works in videogames doesn't have a passing familiarity with Japanese Katakana.

I love Oz and I'm glad Wagner had his way - the whole story seems to be building towards Chopper winning and dying, so having him lose and survive is a neat twist and a perfectly bittersweet ending*. And of course it leaves the door open for more stories, at least two of which are really good.

The Wagner/Grant split and that supremely un-enticing Simon Harrison Strontium Dog image do seem to signal the end of an era, but there's plenty of good stuff until at least Prog 700!

*Losing and dying would have been pretty goddamn bleak

I hope this isn't the deciding vote, I couldn't take the pressure! Sorry for the no-show; I need to get back in the writing habit...

1st: Eamonn
2nd: Shark
3rd: NapalmKev

Eamonn's last line has gone missing: "You came back, how simply delicioussss."

I have half an idea... When's the deadline?

"The Judge Child will return in Prog 1077, eighteen years after Judge Feyy's prediction, just as foretold!"
"Oh, what the fuck."
"Ah, y'know, whatever, that's a problem for when we're covering 1998, buddy. I'm not worried about that too much."
"That's so far away."
"You'd think so, but I got plans."

WHAT. What does this mean? You're not - gasp! - skipping ahead, are you?

Congrats on the anniversary - Space Spinner continues to be one of the podcasting highlights of my week, and ReAction is off to a great start too.

So, so sad to see him go. But man, what a legacy to leave behind.

Awesome work, guys! That was loads of fun and the shout-out really made my day. (It's pronounced ekidna, but don't sweat it - me and Ee-mon are pretty forgiving guys ;) )

Re-Action sounds great; I've read some  Battle but nothing from Action so it will be completely new to me.

For Conrad and anyone else baffled by Fox's reference at 25:20...

Can't say I'm as affected by Helltrekkers as you guys - the cast are dispatched so rapidly I haven't had a chance to grow attached to any of them. That said, if Crustacia gets boiled alive I'll be super sad about it. And I'm looking forward to Quint inevitably going out like Robert Shaw.
