General / Game/Role playing books
05 January, 2003, 03:18:12 AM
Does anybody have any fond memories of these. I remember playing Warlock of firetop mountain as a kid, and I've still got the Stainless Steel Rat one (Dave McKean yum)

Did Diceman work? Did it ruin Slaine?

Opinions?

General / Question about the D20 RPG books.
05 January, 2003, 02:21:31 AM
I've just been looking at the RPG books on the shop. Can somebody expain, briefly, about the D20 system? Is it similar to D&D or the old fighting fantasy gamebooks?

Curious and interested.

General / Fan Fic section.
28 December, 2002, 05:58:37 PM
I ws perusing the fan fic section this morning whilst at work (faster PC's = less time waiting for pages to upload) and I was curious as to the age of some of the strips.

The Henry Flint monkey judge is brilliant, but surely Flint had already been published by then? Also, it would be nice if the end of the strip wasn't given away before you loaded it.

The Boo Cook piece is funny, and absolutely lovely to look at. Nice one Wampa. Was this part of his submission portfolio? Again, a date for this piece would be lovely.

Next time I have the chance it will be the binman by PVS.

Prog / PROG 1320
02 December, 2002, 03:07:08 PM
Morning all. I seem to have gotten here first this week (do to being dog-rough and my FIRST sub prog arriving!) so here goes a review:
Only 4 tales this week, as Red seas goes up to 10 pages (I would imagine that is purely to make sure it finishes on time) pushing past imperfect out of the way.

Dredd: Nice story and Staz johnson shows why his art looks better in colour (very reminiscent of Alan Davis to me) I would have liked this better if the lawgiver was kept to the new model (I know I am picking, but it wouldn't be that hard for someone to inform the artists of the current specs for the uniform.)

Red seas: This keeps getting better, and is building to a lovely climax. Not so sure about the killing god bit, but I am enjoying the ride.

Asylum: Sorry, but I am getting tired of this and I wish I wasn't. The story is descending into farce now. Mind you the bodily movement theme is given a nice touch this week.

Sin/Dex: Can anyone say this was unexpected. Nice touch with the smoke in the spacesuit though.

All in all: I would give it 80%, knocking some off for Sin/Dex and the diminishing return of Asylum.

Dave6795 is going to look for something else to do while feeling c**p and wondering when his Death keyring will arrive.

General / Does anybody remember?
23 November, 2002, 04:20:38 AM
Thinking about the old progs, got to thinking about old artists. Did I read correctly that Bellardinelli was dead?! God I hope not. His style may not suit 2000 at the moment but his passing would still deserve some comment from Tharg.

Also, has anybody a currnt activity list for:

Chris Weston (Killing time, Canon Fodder)
or
Mike White (Abelard Snazz, Mean Arena)

Be nice to hear what some old artists are up to.

Does anybody out there remember the ALIEN LEGION. It started back in the early to mid 80's from Marvels EPIC line?

It has been bought as a GCI cartoon series, which is good news if they stick to the original material by Carl Potts, Frank Cirrocco and Chris Warner.

No ideas of when to be shown, only read about the contracts today.

General / I've Done it!
23 November, 2002, 03:37:50 AM
After the welcome words of encouragement from the board, I can put my digits in the air and say

"I've just subscribed to both 2000 & the Meg!"

Dave1 stumped up the funds and I filled in the on-line form 15 mins ago. (Anything to avoid big brother)

I will have to look for the thread about the keyring when (if) I get mine.

Film & TV / Reboot
22 November, 2002, 03:44:40 AM
Guys, I am sorry if this is old news, but have you all seen the REBOOT GCI cartoon from a few years ago?

I am mentioning it here as Brendan McCarthy and Ian gibson did most of the character designs.

It is a canadian show but was shown here on CITV.

I would put a link to the site if I knew how, but you need to visit the home page of MAINFRAME (the animation studio) there are links around to the REBOOT sections.

It may be of interest if you didn't know about it.

Does anybody else (this is for people who dont have a subscription) have a problem with getting hold of the Meg?

Neither the shop where I have my order, nor the other newsagent locally can order the Megazine.

I am well narked at this as I want to have a look at what all the fuss is about.

General / You'll never believe this...

Bear with me here, it is worth it.

This morning, tidying up in my front room I happened upon the Convention booklet from the UKCAC back in '88. I thought this would pass 1/2 an hour so I began to flick through.

There was a list of those attending that year who had advance tickets and I was surprised to find the following names:
Andrew Diggle
Anthony Williams
Fraser Irving.

Now, Was there anybody else there that year who now is a professional who didn't get their name in print.

By the way, That was the weekend the first deadline came out, and Glenn fabry spent all day Saturday painting in the bar, to give the pic away to a bloke who watched all day.

General / Prog Idol.
17 November, 2002, 03:33:30 AM
'Ow do? I've just been watching those divvy girls sing for their 5 mins of fame, and it sent me thinking. Can anybody out there thing of a good way to steal the pop idol format for a series in 2000? Maybe a series of polls with highlights from characters competing?

On second thoughts this is a little reminiscent of the battle staged in prog 2000. The only real difference would be that WE pick the winner!

any thoughts?

11 November, 2002, 08:53:59 PM
Can any one tellme what happened to Bill Savage at the end of Invasion? I read disaster 1990, and then found out about the older story. Did he die?

Also, is the Volgan war in invasion the same volgan war that spawned the ABc warriors?

Enquiring minds!
