locustsofdeath!

Out of curiosity, this morning I decided to see what my first post on the forum was:

If you've still got those mags, I'll gladly purchase them. I'm near Cambridge, so maybe we can work out a deal. Cheers.

I came here right after I moved to England from the US with the sole intention of finding and buying as many 2000ADs as i could before I had to move back to the States. I ended up buying a full set of progs from 1-1400 after this. (and every Meg, too) And then I met many of you and became friends with many of you, and stuck around.

I'm sure there are first posts that are much more funny than mine - especially the long-timers who have since established themselves here.

So repost your first post with commentary!

My very first post from the dark times long ago of July 2013 was the obligatory welcome to the forum post!

QuoteHave been lurking for a few weeks but finally joined up. Ex loyal fan who left the flock 25 years ago but has now returned to the fold. Am now once more a regular reader of the prog and megazine and am loving it as much as I ever did. Am also taking on board all the recommendations elsewhere of the essential stories to catch up on
Cannot believe I have missed 25 years of thrills and want to catch up ASAP. Plus as I am also an aspiring art droid (aren't we all!) so look forward to getting some healthy criticism on the Creative Common board for my doodles and sketches!!  ::)

Ha! Great topic.

Hold on have I missed something here. How can you have the best of 2000ad and no Nemesis. Now Zenith I understand because there's some kinda rights thing going on but no Nemesis? Is there a problem or is this just a strange omission?

I was whining as normal, in reference to the then newly published 'Best of 2000ad' hardcover

It just feels like a watered down rip-off of Zenith.
Give me the original any day.

Dark Jimbo

As far as I can work out my first post was in a 'Who's your favourite Caballistics character?' thread -

Ahw, poor old overlooked Professor Brand. Mabye it's the 'rupert the bear' dress sense that does it...

For what it's worth I like him, but my favourite is a tie between Ravne and Demon Jenny. (Does it annoy anyone else that Hannah gets SO much attention in the stories, usually to the detriment of the others?)

I was too scared to say an official hello, just lurked for a while to get an ear for how everyone 'spoke' then tried to pretend I'd been here all along!

I'm not convinced that what is saved here as my first post is actually my first post, since it appears to be midway through a pointless argument with Scojo. Even so, October 2001. Cheez.

JayzusB.Christ

Here's mine, back in 2001 (!) when I was Jayzus B. Christ with spaces.  I didn't understand internet forum etiquette and completely veered off a thread's topic to fawn over then-new writer Si Spurrier.

Very much off the subject, this one, but youre pretty good at the old future shocks: are you writing any multi-part stories?

Don't know about everyone else, but my posts aren't showing in the correct order.

I don't think this is correct for me either, seems a bit of an odd post for a first in a new forum.

QuoteI was told that there was bacon.

"I'm going to my mum's for the day with the girls, there is bacon in the fridge" she said before I left for work on Sunday.

I got home after 12 hours of work spent constantly thinking about the pile of bacon sarnies I would make for my tea, to be enjoyed in an otherwise empty house, accompanied by wine and Playstation.

When I opened the fridge there was no bacon to be found. I looked again as I have a long history of not looking properly but still it evaded me. I even looked a third time, behind all the yoghurt on the top shelf, yet still there was no bacon.

The only other thing I could find to eat was a tin of Disney Princess pasta shapes, so I had that on toast.

My wife and kids returned home soon after, summoned as ever by the "on" button of my magic Playstation. I raised the issue of the Bacon only to be escorted to the fridge and shown the bacon and to be reminded by my wife that I never look properly.

I think there have been a couple of fairly major overhauls of the forum code over the years — I'm pretty sure some of the ordering may have been scrambled when the old messages were exported from one forum database and imported into another.

My 2001 posts date from the old unofficial version of this forum, with the grey background and the Kev Walker Tharg's head in the corner, whose beady eye would track your mouse pointer as you moved it around the screen...

Dark Jimbo

Yeah, my 'first' post (as far as I can make out) was on the third or fourth page from the end of the 'my posts' pages. I had to look at all the out-of-order dates to find the earliest one.

Mangamax

That's interesting - did think my one was an odd introductory one. Maybe (gulp) i'd posted earlier...

Well that explains why my first post appears to be in 2006 - I was sure I'd been resident longer than that! (For the record, I was urging everyone to watch Hammer horror, Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. I stand by that post.)
An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

Ha! My usual gobshite nonsense.

QuoteHowdy folks. I couldn't find an 'introductions' thread, so this'll have to do.  I'm 39, and have been a 2000AD fan since I was about 11. I used to spend hours and hours drawing and painting Dredd - my bedroom walls were festooned with my efforts.  Dillon and Bolland were my fave artists at the time. I even painted Dredd on The underside of my skateboard!  If I can dig out an old pic of it, i will post it here somewhere. I'm currently loving Henry Flints work!

Anyway, like an idiot I was influenced by a woman when in my twenties, who considered comics 'childish' so had a break from 2000AD for a bit then. My present partner is much more forgiving, being a gamer and XMen fan, but after me leaving progs on every surface she got pissed off and made me cancel my subscription.

Hurrah for digital downloads! Thanks to these I'm now back into 2000AD and loving it.  My partner is still trying to persuade me to sling the boxes of old progs on top of our wardrobe, but she's a lot happier now my new progs are limited to a folder on my PC!!!

I need to get some back progs though - I've come into the whole Chaos thing halfway through, and it looks like I need to go all the way back to PJ escaping the cubes.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling post - in a nutshell, 39, and back in the 2000AD fold!

My second ever post was quite amusing to me:
QuoteAnnouncements / Re: You be the Judge! Full Judge Dredd costumes from 2000 AD and Planet Replicas
« on: 13 May, 2012, 11:01:56 AM »
Well, my outfit is on order.  The chaps at Planet Replicas seemed very friendly, as I was confused over the belt size, and had to fire off a few emails before submitting my custom sizes.  I get the impression they are very busy - it makes me curious about the number of people ordering uniforms!

Out of interest, can I have a show of hands if you have the uniform, or have ordered one?  We could have enough for a large squad of judges!  A comics convention or other gathering where we turn up in force would be so drokking cool!

That was obviously before I'd even heard of Senior Citizen Street Judge Burdis!!  :D

CrazyFoxMachine

Good idea for a thread Locusts -!

My first ever when I was known as Shakara was an introductory one I think on the evening of the 22nd of June 2002 (when I was 15!!!) - a day or two later I wrote the definitive post which I'd like to think still rings true:

QuoteWhat're all u old ppl talkin about;)

SHAKARA!

...it seems I would end each post by writing "SHAKARA!" What was that about?

Cheers,

Owen.

I then ditched the forum and came back much later as CFM in 2010 and my first post was a re-introductory one that featured another statement which still rings true...

Quote"2000ad is still the most inspiring and consistently brilliant comic there is."
