The cover artist for Judge Dredd 17 in the Titan Books series is Dave McKean.

Are you sure?

I don't remember McKean doing any of those, but I do remember Bill Sienkiewicz doing a fair number of them towards the end of the original run,

Looks more like Sienkiewicz than McKean to me.  I mean, just check out that perp's face for one thing!

sigu

Yep. This image is cropped, but on the book you can see 'Dave McKean 87' in bottom right corner.

McKean also did the cover to 16, but Sienkiewicz did 12-15 and 18-22

Heh.

I wonder if Dave was told to do his covers in the style of Bill, then?  Certainbly looks like it...

What the drokk is that icon G-Man?

I always hoped Dave would finish off Big Numbers, but that'll never happen I guess :(

I'd rather Dave had a go than Bill anyday.

It's the Kabuki Kid, a character Roger Langridge and I did for a comedy-martial arts strip years back.  When I tell you that the first story was called 'A Potful of Noodles', you'll hopefully get the tone of it  ;->

Oh yeah, and Roger's a genius, and it's a crime he's never worked for 2000AD.  Langridge for Robohunter, I say.  The campaign starts now!

sigu

Makes you wonder why they didn't use Sienkiewicz for those two, in the middle of a long run of Sienkiewiczes.

The Judge Dredd 16 cover is one of my faves, but there were a lot of great covers in this series. Brendan McCarthy's were the first time I'd seen his fully painted work, but for me McMahon's were the best, gorgeous colour.http://www.2000adonline.com/covers/graphicnovels/mediumres/dredd2.jpg">

Thankyou Gordon! I've been saying 'Langridge for Robo-Hunter' for months now. Top artist.

sigu

Yep. he's busting you for your enterprising but not very legal Prog 1 replicas ;-)

"I wonder if Dave was told to do his covers in the style of Bill, then?"

I remember reading in Speakeasy (or summat) that there was some speculation about a private joke/competition between McKean and Sienkiewicz over how elaborate they could make their Titan covers.

One, apparently, arrived from McKean with detailed lighting instructions on how it was supposed to be photographed, and then one from Sienkiewicz which actually required connecting to a power supply (or the other way round - it was a while ago).

Gotta love those crazy artists!

Cheers
