Title: Forum’s Fav Thrill - Meltdown Man vs. Dash Decent Rd 3 Heat 55
Post by: Colin YNWA on 23 June, 2022, 05:49:11 AM
Round 3 heads towards its conclusion and things aren't getting any easier. It's time to start thinking about how hard Round 4 is gonna be cos lets face it as we near having just 64 thrills left we know they are all (well almost all) gonna be beauties and the tough ties we see this week will be the regular head scratchers in a couple of weeks time. Arh remember how easy Round 2 was!

Tough tie to end the week... I mean not this one the other one today. I mean this one is a shue win for Nick Stone and co who hardly had to draw breath to see off Stalag 666 last round. I've still not forgiven Dash Decent for doing for Department K in Round 1's biggest travesty, but it got an easy draw against Zombie Army last time. That luck ends here?

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 26th June and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN

I like Dash Decent, but it's got to be Meltdown Man in this battle of the Prog 178 starters.

I like the much-maligned Dash Decent (but then I guess it took inspiration from one of my favourite films.

But Meltdown Man is one of my favourite thrills of all time, so I'm voting for that.  Prog 178 for the win!

Hah! Colin, you couldn't have engineered a more fitting squishing for DD if you'd tried. A thrill of the same vintage, so no nostlagia goggles to get in the way of the reality that Meltdown Man is hands down wittier, smarter and all around better.

Will any Round 4 ties be this easy to choose?

Meltdown Man has a thin story that ends abruptly, but it's still good enough. Dash... er, no.

Meltdown Man is an absolute classic of the early era, make it up as you go along, long running serial, that clearly had no plan, and just abruptly ended when editorial had had enough of it. And it was none the worse for that. God knows how Massimo managed it for a whole year.

I'll be honest when I do the draw ties that haven't finished I entered into the draw as x vs y so I have a track of both possible winners. I didn't both here. Closes tomorrow morning.

No...!  You can't pit two of my favourites against each other!

But as MM is clearly going to win, I can unhesitatingly nail my colours to the DD mast.

DASH DECENT FOREVER!
