FACT: Though he doesn't normally like Cut and Pasted jokes or "FW:FW:FW:FW:FW THOUGHT THIS MIGHT MAKE YOU LAUGH", Mister Tips laoughed long and hard at some of those Queen Mum quotes.

FACT: Karne's story about the statue of Liberty is in fact better than 4 out of the 6 Past Imperfect stories published so far.

MAGNIFICENT FACT: Courtesy of this morning's METRO letters page

The first S in the acronym for SARS (SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME) was only added after the World Health Organisation figured out they'd never get anybody to worry about an outbreak of ARS.

I can believe the IR35 one. Bastards.

FACT: The Banana Splits (of Saturday morning TV fame way before Ant and Dec) were actually THE DOORS dressed up.  MR MOJO RISIN himself was DROOPER.

PVS: heh heh heh!  Nice - took me a while but I think I gnow what you're on about.

I'm not for banning guns.  People should be allowed to have as many guns as they like.

Ammunition,  on the other hand,  should be banned completely.

Did I miss something here?

I think a lot of other people may have missed it too so I wouldn't worry.

General / Re: Best dialogue ever?

The early Bond flms are chock full of classy dialogue and it's one of the ingredients that I find missing in the later ones.

THUNDERBALL has some classics:
Bond arrives at the baddie (Largo) place just after the baddie has been entertaining a lady baddie.  The baddie tries to suss out Bond
LARGO:  Care to shoot clay pigeons Mister Bond?
BOND: Isn't this a ladies gun?
LARGO: You know a lot about guns, Mister Bond?
BOND: No but I know a little about women.

There's also a whole sequence in a car that Lady Villain (Fiona)is driving way too fast along dimly lit back roads.  It's all baout Bond being nervous and people getting what they want. It ends with:
Fiona: Some people just don't like to be driven, Mister Bond.
Bond: No, some people just don't like to be taken for a ride.

Compare this with the rubbish that was in the latest DIE ANOTHER DAY.  For no (or a very tenuous at best) reason at all, MI5 agent Frost comes up to BOnd as he is chatting up uber-babe Jinx and says:
FROST:  DID MISTER BOND EXPLAIN HIS BIG BANG THEORY TO YOU?
JINX: I THINK I GOT THE THRUST OF IT.

I can't understand why so many people moaned about the fact that a Playstation 2 was used to generate some of the special effects sequences in DIE ANOTHER DAY when it's biggest problem was that they used the script writers from one of the poorer (i.e. nearly all) the CARRY ON films.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant but I really despised the last Bond film - utterly lacking in wit.

Best lack of dialogue ever: I paraphrase William Goldman quoting a bit of Raymond Chandler screenplay:
"A married couple are stood silently in an elevator.  The door opens and a pretty girl gets in.  The husband takes off his hat".

I understood it but didn't enjoy it.

I thought the whole setup was a bit of a cliche (I'm sure I've seen it on lists of "Never do stories about...")

And I didn't like the way that the good guy just came back at the end and whupped the badguys ass because something, like, magical and mystical had happened to him and transformed him in someway, like, dude.  Whatever happened to the lead character learning from his trials and tribulations etc?

But maybe I missed something there because by that point I was just skim reading it because I wasn't enjoying it.

In fact, I apologise right now if I've got any of this wrong (but hey, it's just an opinion).

* Socks, obviously.
* A History of Violence - by John Wagner
* From Russia with Love on DVD
* Strontium Dog - Portrait of a mutant
* A Smallville novel y Alan Grant
* A Lord of the Rings Mug and Calander
* My favourite smelly stuff.
* Some fabulous looks on the children's faces when they opened their presents - especially the littlest fella on his trampoline.

The others were good but the last thing was best.

I'd recommend this as the sort of venture we should all be supporting and talking about and enjoying.

I look forward to reading the equally fictitious "SOLAR FLARE OVERLOAD" entry (by D.Bishop of course) that covers the creation and demise of the comic.  This could be the paper equivalent of PARTRIDGE or THE OFFICE).

At Moniaive he said he was working on another Strontium Dog story "Very different from ROADHOUSE".  I smiled (secretly hoping that he didn't realise I wasn't keen on ROADHOUSE).

You've spotted somebody you really fancy and would like to trap off with.  Just one problem - they ask you to do something that's not really in your nature.

SO what's the worst/most embrassing thing you've done in an attempt to bag a perch?

Note: I'm not talking about "love" here, just things you've done that you wouldn't normally do just because you had the chance of a shag...

As well as "acting all sensitive and caring", I'm guilty of the following:

1) Attended a Steelye Span concert.

2) Became a Vegetarian (this one stuck)

3) Gone to the ballet (actually enjoyed this)

I could give it up anytime I wanted.

I could.

It's just I don't want to at the moment.

But I could.

Anytime.

Anytime at all...
